My channel is one of the most prolific from Poland. With almost one film per day, one may be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I do have a day job as well. I have produced around 1,600 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occasional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects

Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!

Hanka Ordonówna & Ork. Henryka Warsa -- Na pierwszy znak (At the First Sign) Slow-fox z filmu „Szpieg w masce" (from the Film „A Masked Spy") Muzyka: Henryk Wars, Tekst: Oldlen (Julian Tuwim), Syrena-Electro 1933 (Polish)
NOTE: In this great Polish hit -- one of the greatest in whole history of a Polish song -- three enormous talents had their meeting spot. The first one, most obviously, is Hanka ORDONÓWNA - actress and singer, la grande vedette of the Polish interwar film and theatre. Born Maria Anna Piertuszyńska in Warsaw in 1902, early in her chaildhood she attended the ballet school. In the age of 16, she was admitted to the ballet in the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, she also performed on stage of the cabaret Sphinx and in early 1920s also in the theatre "Wesoły Ul" (A Merry Beehive) in Lublin. It was the time, when Polish audience was going through the climax of Polish patriotic sentiments, evoked by the collapse of three tyrants, who had kept Poland in the state of partition for 150 years, as well as by the Polish victory in the Polish-Bolshevik war of 1920. Ordonówna's patriotic repertoire and a lot of soldier songs she included to it, gained her a great popularity. After returning to Warsaw, she got in 1925 the engagement in Qui pro Quo -- one of the best cabarets in prewar Poland - to which she remained faithful until its fall in 1931. The theatre made a great star of her. She sung the songs written for her by the best composers and writers, such as Julian Tuwim (Oldlen) or Jerzy Brzechwa. Yet the very peak of her career was her performance in the thriller movie "Szpieg w masce" (A Masked Spy; 1933) where she sung two songs, which were to become one of the largest Polish hits in history: the English waltz "Miłość ci wszystko wybaczy" (Love Will Forgive You Anything) and a glamourous slowfox "Na pierwszy znak" (At the First Sign) -- both compoosed by one of the best Polish bandleaders and composers of that time, HENRYK WARS. A celebrated poet JULIAN TUWIM wrote text to both of them. The Ordonowna's role in that movie -- albeit with difficulty ranked to her greater artistic achievements - was overshadowed by her magnificent vocal performance, belonging to this day to the most beautiful performances in the history of Polish film music. As a great star, she married in 1933 Count Michał Tyszkiewicz -- the fact which made her for the following years a front page celebrity. The passage of time has proven that her marriage was not calculated, and that true love united two of them. Tyszkiewicz often accompanied her in her artistic tournees, he also wrote lyrics to several of her songs. In last years before WW2 Ordonówna stood on the theshold of her grand international career, being better and better known and valued in Vienna, Berlin or in the United States. Her little voice reached the peak of the artistry, she could virtually sing anything and she was able to paint with her voice all emotional states of the soul. The lessons she used to take with Yvette Guilbert in Paris in the 1920s as well as artistical protection which for decades had been taken on her by the exquisite Qui pro Quo entrepreneur Fryderyk Jarossy -- the former member of the Russian cabaret "The Blue Bird" (Siniaja Ptica) in which he used to perform with Wiera Kholodnaya and Alexandre Vertinsky -- gave excellent results: Hanka Ordonówna became the Queen of the Polish song.
The catastrophe of the German-Soviet invasion on Poland in Sept1939, broke forever many lives and many artistic careers in Poland. Ordonówna was no exception: shortly after the beginning of German occupation of Warsaw, Ordonówna was arrested by Gestapo and imprisoned at the heavy jail of Pawiak. Released through intervention of her husband, whose high aristocratic rank in Europe was still of some importance to some nazi officers -- she travelled with him to his palace near Wilno, where she again tried to continue performing on stage -- until the takeover of Wilno and of the whole of Lithuania by the Red Army, in 1940. Both of them were arrested and sent to various places in the Soviet Unioon: Hanka to a labor camp in Uzbekistan and Michał Tyszkiewicz -- to one of the countless jails in the Gulag Archipelago in the USSR. The couple had to wait for their reunion until the outbreak of the German-Soviet war in June 1942 -- when they met again in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, where -- according to Sikorski-Stalin Pact the emigree Polish army was formed, out from the remnants of the Polish soldiers and officers who survived the Soviet jails and labor camps. Hanka Ordonówna found a rewarding job, taking care on the Polish Army's children orphanage and Michal Tyszkiewicz could also continue his military service. However, her health seriously weakened by heavy work and hunger in Russia, caused the reoccurence of tuberculosis in her and Hanka Ordonowna died in Beirut in 1950.

Over 705 Polish Righteous among the Nations were murdered by the Germans for aiding or sheltering their Jewish
neighbors. These Poles were only a small percentage of the thousands reportedly executed by the German Nazis for
aiding Jews. "Władysław Bartoszewski, who worked for Żegota during the war estimates that 'at least several hundred
thousand Poles... participated in various ways and forms in the rescue action.' Recent research suggests that a million
Poles were involved" in the rescue of Jews,"but some estimates go as high as three million." Similarly, "estimates of the
number of Poles who perished at the hands of the Germans for aiding Jews vary from a few thousand [see above] to
fifty thousand" according to different research.
How many people in Poland rescued Jews? Of those that meet Yad Vashems criteria—perhaps 100,000. Of those that
offered minor forms of help—perhaps two or three times as many. Of those who were passively protective—undoubtedly

Germans selected occupied Poland as the only country where aiding a Jew, be it only to give him a slice of bread, was
immediately punished by death. Failure to inform on a neighbor hiding Jews meant deportation to a GERMAN NAZI
Concentration and Extermination Camp(1939-1945) AUSCHWITZ, BUCHENWALD, DACHAU, BERGEN BELSEN,
Ravensbrück, SACHSENHAUSEN, MAUTHAUSEN, NEUENGAMME, GROSS-ROSEN, SZUCHA, PAWIAK,
PALMIRY.
On August 22, 1939, a week before his attack on Poland, Hitler exhorted his nation: "Kill without pity or mercy all men,
women and children of Polish descent or language. Only in this way can we obtain the living space we need." As
many as 200,000 Polish children, deemed to have "Germanic" (Aryan) features, were forcibly taken to Germany to be
raised as Germans, and had their birth records falsified. Very few of these children were reunited with their families after
the war.
More than 500 towns and villages were burned, over 16 thousand persons, mostly Polish Christians, were killed in 714
mass executions of which 60% were carried out by the Wehrmacht (German army) and 40% by the SS and Gestapo. In
Bydgoszcz the first victims were boy scouts from 12 to 16 years old, shot in the marketplace. All this happened in the

According to the AB German Plan, Poles were to become a people without education, slaves for the German
overlords. Secondary schools were closed; studying, keeping radios, or arms of any kind, or practicing any kind of
trade were prohibited under the threat of death.
Out of its pre-war population of 36 million, Poland lost 22%, a higher percentage than any other country in Europe. The
heaviest losses were sustained by educated classes, youth and democratic forces that could have challenged

Zegota-Council for Aid to Jews in Occupied Poland(1939-1945). ZEGOTA (in Polish: ŻEGOTA) was the only
government-sponsored (London-based Polish Government-in-Exile) social welfare agency established to rescue Jews
in German-occupied EUROPE.
The German occupying forces made concealing Jews a crime punishable by death for everyone living in a house
where Jews were discovered. Although this penalty was rarely enforced in practice - it is estimated that some 705
Poles were killed for hiding Jews.
The stories of the rescuers are a shining example of the most selfless sacrifice, surpassing in its heroism that of all the
soldiers on the battlefield, whom we commemorate each November. In fact the soldier must fight; he cannot refuse. He
is sustained by the entire military organization and his efforts are mostly limited to battles that have a clear beginning
and end. He is paid and given the food, supplies and weapons that he needs.
Rescuers of Jews in German-occupied Poland were alone, often deprived of their pre-war means of livelihood,
expelled from their farms, factories, businesses, offices and even homes, most of them living in dire poverty. All found it
virtually impossible to earn a living. They were under no legal obligation to risk their own lives and, even more, those of
their families and neighbors. Their help most often lasted days and nights, weeks, months, even years, always in
secret, and always risking discovery. To save one person sometimes several dozens of people risked their lives.
Who of us would do it today, especially in the above mentioned conditions?

In the early 1970s, Julien Bryan recounted a trip to Poland before the war: "[We] had just come from the Soviet Union; we had worked there several summers. To work for a month or two in Poland was real contrast." Jules Bucher, another cameraman on Bryan's team, said that arriving in Warsaw was "something of a culture shock." The images that they captured in 1936 as they explored the city with their cameras are especially poignant knowing that many of the modern shops and streets that appear in this footage were destroyed during the German attack on Warsaw in September 1939.

The first one, most obviously, is Hanka ORDONÓWNA - actress and singer, la grande vedette of the Polish interwar film and theatre. Born Maria Anna Piertuszyńska in Warsaw in 1902, early in her chaildhood she attended the ballet school. In the age of 16, she was admitted to the ballet in the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, she also performed on stage of the cabaret Sphinx and in early 1920s also in the theatre "Wesoły Ul" (A Merry Beehive) in Lublin. It was the time, when Polish audience was going through the climax of Polish patriotic sentiments, evoked by the collapse of three tyrants, who had kept Poland in the state of partition for 150 years, as well as by the Polish victory in the Polish-Bolshevik war of 1920. Ordonówna's patriotic repertoire and a lot of soldier songs she included to it, gained her a great popularity. After returning to Warsaw, she got in 1925 the engagement in Qui pro Quo -- one of the best cabarets in prewar Poland - to which she remained faithful until its fall in 1931. The theatre made a great star of her. She sung the songs written for her by the best composers and writers, such as Julian Tuwim (Oldlen) or Jerzy Brzechwa. Yet the very peak of her career was her performance in the thriller movie "Szpieg w masce" (A Masked Spy; 1933) where she sung two songs, which were to become one of the largest Polish hits in history: the English waltz "Miłość ci wszystko wybaczy" (Love Will Forgive You Anything) and a glamourous slowfox "Na pierwszy znak" (At the First Sign) -- both compoosed by one of the best Polish bandleaders and composers of that time, HENRYK WARS. A celebrated poet JULIAN TUWIM wrote text to both of them. The Ordonowna's role in that movie -- albeit with difficulty ranked to her greater artistic achievements - was overshadowed by her magnificent vocal performance, belonging to this day to the most beautiful performances in the history of Polish film music. As a great star, she married in 1933 Count Michał Tyszkiewicz -- the fact which made her for the following years a front page celebrity. The passage of time has proven that her marriage was not calculated, and that true love united two of them. Tyszkiewicz often accompanied her in her artistic tournees, he also wrote lyrics to several of her songs. In last years before WW2 Ordonówna stood on the theshold of her grand international career, being better and better known and valued in Vienna, Berlin or in the United States. Her little voice reached the peak of the artistry, she could virtually sing anything and she was able to paint with her voice all emotional states of the soul. The lessons she used to take with Yvette Guilbert in Paris in the 1920s as well as artistical protection which for decades had been taken on her by the exquisite Qui pro Quo entrepreneur Fryderyk Jarossy -- the former member of the Russian cabaret "The Blue Bird" (Siniaja Ptica) in which he used to perform with Wiera Kholodnaya and Alexandre Vertinsky -- gave excellent results: Hanka Ordonówna became the Queen of the Polish song. The catastrophe of the German-Soviet invasion on Poland in Sept1939, broke forever many lives and many artistic careers in Poland. Ordonówna was no exception: shortly after the beginning of German occupation of Warsaw, Ordonówna was arrested by Gestapo and imprisoned at the heavy jail of Pawiak. Released through intervention of her husband, whose high aristocratic rank in Europe was still of some importance to some nazi officers -- she travelled with him to his palace near Wilno, where she again tried to continue performing on stage -- until the takeover of Wilno and of the whole of Lithuania by the Red Army, in 1940. Both of them were arrested and sent to various places in the Soviet Unioon: Hanka to a labor camp in Uzbekistan and Michał Tyszkiewicz -- to one of the countless jails in the Gulag Archipelago in the USSR. The couple had to wait for their reunion until the outbreak of the German-Soviet war in June 1942 -- when they met again in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, where -- according to Sikorski-Stalin Pact the emigree Polish army was formed, out from the remnants of the Polish soldiers and officers who survived the Soviet jails and labor camps. Hanka Ordonówna found a rewarding job, taking care on the Polish Army's children orphanage and Michal Tyszkiewicz could also continue his military service. However, her health seriously weakened by heavy work and hunger in Russia, caused the reoccurence of tuberculosis in her and Hanka Ordonowna died in Beirut in 1950. -

Over 705 Polish Righteous among the Nations were murdered by the Germans for aiding or sheltering their Jewish neighbors. These Poles were only a small percentage of the thousands reportedly executed by the German Nazis for aiding Jews. "Władysław Bartoszewski, who worked for Żegota during the war estimates that 'at least several hundred thousand Poles... participated in various ways and forms in the rescue action.' Recent research suggests that a million Poles were involved" in the rescue of Jews,"but some estimates go as high as three million." Similarly, "estimates of the number of Poles who perished at the hands of the Germans for aiding Jews vary from a few thousand [see above] to fifty thousand" according to different research. How many people in Poland rescued Jews? Of those that meet Yad Vashems criteria—perhaps 100,000. Of those that offered minor forms of help—perhaps two or three times as many. Of those who were passively protective—undoubtedly the majority of the population. — Gunnar S. Paulsson Would you risk your own life and your family's to save another human being? Germans selected occupied Poland as the only country where aiding a Jew, be it only to give him a slice of bread, was immediately punished by death. Failure to inform on a neighbor hiding Jews meant deportation to a GERMAN NAZI Concentration and Extermination Camp(1939-1945) AUSCHWITZ, BUCHENWALD, DACHAU, BERGEN BELSEN, Ravensbrück, SACHSENHAUSEN, MAUTHAUSEN, NEUENGAMME, GROSS-ROSEN, SZUCHA, PAWIAK, PALMIRY. On August 22, 1939, a week before his attack on Poland, Hitler exhorted his nation: "Kill without pity or mercy all men, women and children of Polish descent or language. Only in this way can we obtain the living space we need." As many as 200,000 Polish children, deemed to have "Germanic" (Aryan) features, were forcibly taken to Germany to be raised as Germans, and had their birth records falsified. Very few of these children were reunited with their families after the war. More than 500 towns and villages were burned, over 16 thousand persons, mostly Polish Christians, were killed in 714 mass executions of which 60% were carried out by the Wehrmacht (German army) and 40% by the SS and Gestapo. In Bydgoszcz the first victims were boy scouts from 12 to 16 years old, shot in the marketplace. All this happened in the first eight weeks of the war. See Richard C. According to the AB German Plan, Poles were to become a people without education, slaves for the German overlords. Secondary schools were closed; studying, keeping radios, or arms of any kind, or practicing any kind of trade were prohibited under the threat of death. Out of its pre-war population of 36 million, Poland lost 22%, a higher percentage than any other country in Europe. The heaviest losses were sustained by educated classes, youth and democratic forces that could have challenged totalitarianism. See I. C. Pogonowski, Poland: A Historical Atlas. Righteous Among the Nations: POLAND- 6066 - more than from any other German Nazi-occupied country Total Persons- 22,211 Zegota-Council for Aid to Jews in Occupied Poland(1939-1945). ZEGOTA (in Polish: ŻEGOTA) was the only government-sponsored (London-based Polish Government-in-Exile) social welfare agency established to rescue Jews in German-occupied EUROPE. The German occupying forces made concealing Jews a crime punishable by death for everyone living in a house where Jews were discovered. Although this penalty was rarely enforced in practice - it is estimated that some 705 Poles were killed for hiding Jews. The stories of the rescuers are a shining example of the most selfless sacrifice, surpassing in its heroism that of all the soldiers on the battlefield, whom we commemorate each November. In fact the soldier must fight; he cannot refuse. He is sustained by the entire military organization and his efforts are mostly limited to battles that have a clear beginning and end. He is paid and given the food, supplies and weapons that he needs. Rescuers of Jews in German-occupied Poland were alone, often deprived of their pre-war means of livelihood, expelled from their farms, factories, businesses, offices and even homes, most of them living in dire poverty. All found it virtually impossible to earn a living. They were under no legal obligation to risk their own lives and, even more, those of their families and neighbors. Their help most often lasted days and nights, weeks, months, even years, always in secret, and always risking discovery. To save one person sometimes several dozens of people risked their lives. Who of us would do it today, especially in the above mentioned conditions? -

In the early 1970s, Julien Bryan recounted a trip to Poland before the war: "[We] had just come from the Soviet Union; we had worked there several summers. To work for a month or two in Poland was real contrast." Jules Bucher, another cameraman on Bryan's team, said that arriving in Warsaw was "something of a culture shock." The images that they captured in 1936 as they explored the city with their cameras are especially poignant knowing that many of the modern shops and streets that appear in this footage were destroyed during the German attack on Warsaw in September 1939. In the early 1970s, Julien Bryan recounted a trip to Poland before the war: "[We] had just come from the Soviet Union; we had worked there several summers. To work for a month or two in Poland was real contrast." Jules Bucher, another cameraman on Bryan's team, said that arriving in Warsaw was "something of a culture shock." In the age of 16, she was admitted to the ballet in the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, she also performed on stage of the cabaret Sphinx and in early 1920s also in the theatre "Wesoły Ul" (A Merry Beehive) in Lublin. It was the time, when Polish audience was going through the climax of Polish patriotic sentiments, evoked by the collapse of three tyrants, who had kept Poland in the state of partition for 150 years, as well as by the Polish victory in the Polish-Bolshevik war of 1920. Ordonówna's patriotic repertoire and a lot of soldier songs she included to it, gained her a great popularity. After returning to Warsaw, she got in 1925 the engagement in Qui pro Quo -- one of the best cabarets in prewar Poland - to which she remained faithful until its fall in 1931. The theatre made a great star of her. She sung the songs written for her by the best composers and writers, such as Julian Tuwim (Oldlen) or Jerzy Brzechwa. Yet the very peak of her career was her performance in the thriller movie "Szpieg w masce" (A Masked Spy; 1933) where she sung two songs, which were to become one of the largest Polish hits in history: the English waltz "Miłość ci wszystko wybaczy" (Love Will Forgive You Anything) and a glamourous slowfox "Na pierwszy znak" (At the First Sign) -- both compoosed by one of the best Polish bandleaders and composers of that time, HENRYK WARS. A celebrated poet JULIAN TUWIM wrote text to both of them. The Ordonowna's role in that movie -- albeit with difficulty ranked to her greater artistic achievements - was overshadowed by her magnificent vocal performance, belonging to this day to the most beautiful performances in the history of Polish film music. As a great star, she married in 1933 Count Michał Tyszkiewicz -- the fact which made her for the following years a front page celebrity. The passage of time has proven that her marriage was not calculated, and that true love united two of them. Tyszkiewicz often accompanied her in her artistic tournees, he also wrote lyrics to several of her songs. In last years before WW2 Ordonówna stood on the theshold of her grand international career, being better and better known and valued in Vienna, Berlin or in the United States. Her little voice reached the peak of the artistry, she could virtually sing anything and she was able to paint with her voice all emotional states of the soul. The lessons she used to take with Yvette Guilbert in Paris in the 1920s as well as artistical protection which for decades had been taken on her by the exquisite Qui pro Quo entrepreneur Fryderyk Jarossy -- the former member of the Russian cabaret "The Blue Bird" (Siniaja Ptica) in which he used to perform with Wiera Kholodnaya and Alexandre Vertinsky -- gave excellent results: Hanka Ordonówna became the Queen of the Polish song.
The catastrophe of the German-Soviet invasion on Poland in Sept1939, broke forever many lives and many artistic careers in Poland. Ordonówna was no exception: shortly after the beginning of German occupation of Warsaw, Ordonówna was arrested by Gestapo and imprisoned at the heavy jail of Pawiak. Released through intervention of her husband, whose high aristocratic rank in Europe was still of some importance to some nazi officers -- she travelled with him to his palace near Wilno, where she again tried to continue performing on stage -- until the takeover of Wilno and of the whole of Lithuania by the Red Army, in 1940. Both of them were arrested and sent to various places in the Soviet Unioon: Hanka to a labor camp in Uzbekistan and Michał Tyszkiewicz -- to one of the countless jails in the Gulag Archipelago in the USSR. The couple had to wait for their reunion until the outbreak of the German-Soviet war in June 1942 -- when they met again in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, where -- according to Sikorski-Stalin Pact the emigree Polish army was formed, out from the remnants of the Polish soldiers and officers who survived the Soviet jails and labor camps. Hanka Ordonówna found a rewarding job, taking care on the Polish Army's children orphanage and Michal Tyszkiewicz could also continue his military service. On August 22, 1939, a week before his attack on Poland, Hitler exhorted his nation: "Kill without pity or mercy all men,
women and children of Polish descent or language. Only in this way can we obtain the living space we need." As
many as 200,000 Polish children, deemed to have "Germanic" (Aryan) features, were forcibly taken to Germany to be
raised as Germans, and had their birth records falsified. Very few of these children were reunited with their families after
the war.
More than 500 towns and villages were burned, over 16 thousand persons, mostly Polish Christians, were killed in 714
mass executions of which 60% were carried out by the Wehrmacht (German army) and 40% by the SS and Gestapo. In
Bydgoszcz the first victims were boy scouts from 12 to 16 years old, shot in the marketplace. All this happened in the

According to the AB German Plan, Poles were to become a people without education, slaves for the German
overlords. Secondary schools were closed; studying, keeping radios, or arms of any kind, or practicing any kind of
trade were prohibited under the threat of death.
Out of its pre-war population of 36 million, Poland lost 22%, a higher percentage than any other country in Europe. The
heaviest losses were sustained by educated classes, youth and democratic forces that could have challenged

government-sponsored (London-based Polish Government-in-Exile) social welfare agency established to rescue Jews
in German-occupied EUROPE.
The German occupying forces made concealing Jews a crime punishable by death for everyone living in a house
where Jews were discovered. Although this penalty was rarely enforced in practice - it is estimated that some 705
Poles were killed for hiding Jews.
The stories of the rescuers are a shining example of the most selfless sacrifice, surpassing in its heroism that of all the
soldiers on the battlefield, whom we commemorate each November. In fact the soldier must fight; he cannot refuse. He
is sustained by the entire military organization and his efforts are mostly limited to battles that have a clear beginning
and end. He is paid and given the food, supplies and weapons that he needs.
Rescuers of Jews in German-occupied Poland were alone, often deprived of their pre-war means of livelihood,
expelled from their farms, factories, businesses, offices and even homes, most of them living in dire poverty. All found it
virtually impossible to earn a living. They were under no legal obligation to risk their own lives and, even more, those of
their families and neighbors. Their help most often lasted days and nights, weeks, months, even years, always in
secret, and always risking discovery. To save one person sometimes several dozens of people risked their lives.

Over 705 Polish Righteous among the Nations were murdered by the Germans for aiding or sheltering their Jewish
neighbors. These Poles were only a small percentage of the thousands reportedly executed by the German Nazis for
aiding Jews. "Władysław Bartoszewski, who worked for Żegota during the war estimates that 'at least several hundred
thousand Poles... participated in various ways and forms in the rescue action.' Recent research suggests that a million
Poles were involved" in the rescue of Jews,"but some estimates go as high as three million." Similarly, "estimates of the
number of Poles who perished at the hands of the Germans for aiding Jews vary from a few thousand [see above] to
fifty thousand" according to different research.
How many people in Poland rescued Jews? Of those that meet Yad Vashems criteria—perhaps 100,000. Of those that
offered minor forms of help—perhaps two or three times as many. Of those who were passively protective—undoubtedly

Well hello and welcome to Warszawa. This week we are exploring the Polish capital. We've already been here a few days and it has been amazing. It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.
We came to Warsaw with little to no expectations and the city completely surprised us. Our week in the capital was spent sampling Polish cuisine, learning about the city's past through museums and historical tours, and also dabbling in a bit of the nightlife. Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.

25 Things to do in Warsaw, Poland | Top Attractions Tourism Guide Video Transcript:
Well hello and welcome to Warszawa. This week we are exploring the Polish capital. We've already been here a few days and it has been amazing. It has been such a pleasant surprise and unlike any part of Europe we've traveled in so far. So yeah, this week we're going to be highlighting 25 things to do around the city and we're excited to show you what it is all about.
We came to Warsaw with little to no expectations and the city completely surprised us. Our week in the capital was spent sampling Polish cuisine, learning about the city's past through museums and historical tours, and also dabbling in a bit of the nightlife. Warsaw is quickly rising through the ranks and we think it won't be long before travellers are flocking en masse. So if you're planning a trip to Poland, don't skip over the capital because there is more to Warsaw than meets the eye.

The city core of Krakow, with its old streets and squares offer us the feeling of the happy, old days. The Wawel district, which is built on a hill, fort walls and bastions protect the royal palace and the cathedral. The astonishingly great square of the old marketplace is surrounded by medieval houses, and is busy all day and all night. The restaurants tempt the travelers with food prepared from wild mushrooms and berries, game and cabbage. The religious buildings keep the memory of the late Pope, John Paul II. the late Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. From Krakow we can take a trip to the Wieliczka salt mine, to the enchanting medieval trading post, Krosno, and to the Ojcowi National Park, where there are many rivers, castles and caves for us to explore. We can take a look at the symbol of human cruelty, Auschwitz, and take a tour in the Polish Alps. The city of Zakopane awaits those visitors at any season, who would like to take tours, bike, and ski.

Warsaw is a large and sprawling city of more than 1.7 million people that is split into somewhat uneven halves by the Wisła (Vistula) River. Most everything of interest to visitors is on the western side of the river around the modern financial district. Its centrepiece is the landmark Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), a Socialist-Realist confection which can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city.
The epicentre of Warsaw for visitors is the so-called Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), which runs north-south from the New and Old Towns, past the fashionable shops of Nowy Świat, the palaces that survived the war and the royal gardens of Łazienki Park, before reaching Wilanów Palace to the south of the city centre.
Warsaw's striking Old Town may look like it dates back several centuries but the old gal has barely reached middle age. The painstakingly rebuilt area was awarded a listing on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1980. Unmissable attractions in and around the Old Town include the Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral and the Citadel. Farther afield, make sure you visit the Warsaw Rising Museum for the story of the courageous men and women who rose up against their occupiers in WWII as well as the Palace of Culture and Science for the views.
No surprising for a city that was essentially rebuilt from the ground up after WWII, Warsaw offers an inordinate amount of green space, with leafy parks where rowing boats cruise past outdoor cafés, during the summer, and free classical concerts attract crowds in a scene far removed from the dull Communist-era images of Warsaw. And don't miss the palaces and other historical and cultural buildings in the city's splendid Łazienki and Wilanów Parks.
Warsaw's nightlife is one of the best in Eastern Europe today, with a multitude of bars and clubs scattered across the city as well as a generous dose of more highbrow entertainment such as classical music concerts and opera. Whatever you do, don't leave town without sampling the tipple of choice here in these parts: wódka (vodka). It comes in a myriad of flavours and hues - from myśliwska (`hunter's vodka'), which tastes a bit like gin, and wiśniówka (flavoured with cherries) to pieprzówka (pepper) and the famous żubrówka ('bison vodka'), which is flavoured with grass and favoured by the beasties in Bialowieza National Park). Poles traditionally drank vodka neat -- never in cocktails.
The dining options have improved no end in Warsaw, with international cuisine regularly featured alongside Polish standards. And Polish cuisine has also undergone some major transformations, lightening up old favourites with less fat and employing fresher ingredients.

Its centrepiece is the landmark Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), a Socialist-Realist confection which can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city.
The epicentre of Warsaw for visitors is the so-called Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), which runs north-south from the New and Old Towns, past the fashionable shops of Nowy Świat, the palaces that survived the war and the royal gardens of Łazienki Park, before reaching Wilanów Palace to the south of the city centre.
Warsaw's striking Old Town may look like it dates back several centuries but the old gal has barely reached middle age. The painstakingly rebuilt area was awarded a listing on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1980. Unmissable attractions in and around the Old Town include the Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral and the Citadel. Farther afield, make sure you visit the Warsaw Rising Museum for the story of the courageous men and women who rose up against their occupiers in WWII as well as the Palace of Culture and Science for the views.
No surprising for a city that was essentially rebuilt from the ground up after WWII, Warsaw offers an inordinate amount of green space, with leafy parks where rowing boats cruise past outdoor cafés, during the summer, and free classical concerts attract crowds in a scene far removed from the dull Communist-era images of Warsaw. And don't miss the palaces and other historical and cultural buildings in the city's splendid Łazienki and Wilanów Parks.
Warsaw's nightlife is one of the best in Eastern Europe today, with a multitude of bars and clubs scattered across the city as well as a generous dose of more highbrow entertainment such as classical music concerts and opera. Whatever you do, don't leave town without sampling the tipple of choice here in these parts: wódka (vodka). It comes in a myriad of flavours and hues - from myśliwska (`hunter's vodka'), which tastes a bit like gin, and wiśniówka (flavoured with cherries) to pieprzówka (pepper) and the famous żubrówka ('bison vodka'), which is flavoured with grass and favoured by the beasties in Bialowieza National Park). Poles traditionally drank vodka neat -- never in cocktails.
The dining options have improved no end in Warsaw, with international cuisine regularly featured alongside Polish standards. And Polish cuisine has also undergone some major transformations, lightening up old favourites with less fat and employing fresher ingredients.

In August 2012, the foundation, in partnership with PEPFAR (United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief), USAID (United States Agency for International Development), and UNITAID (an international drug purchasing facility hosted by WHO), announced they had finalized an agreement to reduce the cost of a commercial TB test (Cepheid's Xpert MTB/RIF run on the GeneXpert platform) from $16.86 to $9.98. This test can take the place of smear microscopy, a technique first developed in the 1880s by Robert Koch. Smear microscopy often does not show TB infection in persons who are also co-infected with HIV, whereas Xpert MTB/RIF can show TB in the co-infected patient. In addition, the GeneXpert system can show whether the particular TB strain is resistant to the antibiotic rifampicin, which is a widely accepted indicator of the presence of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis.[37][38]
Visceral Leishmaniasis Research
The foundation awarded the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Kuvin Center for the Study of Infectious and Tropical Diseases a US$5 million grant in 2009 for research into visceral leishmaniasis, an emerging parasitic disease in Ethiopia where it is frequently associated with HIV/AIDS, and a leading cause of adult illness and death. The project is a collaborative effort with Addis Ababa University and will gather data for analysis to identify the weak links in the transmission cycle and devise methods for control of the disease.[39]
The foundation has also given The Institute for OneWorld Health a donation of nearly US$10 million to support the organization's work on a drug for visceral leishmaniasis.

No. 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando was a commando unit of the British Army during the Second World War. The first No. 10 Commando was proposed in August 1940, using volunteers from Northern Command, however there was such a poor response that No. 10 Commando was disbanded and the men that had volunteered were posted to other commando units.
In early 1942 the commando was raised again, this time as No. 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando. By the end of the war the commando had become the largest commando in the British Army and included volunteers from France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Denmark, Poland and Yugoslavia. There was another group of volunteers in X Troop which contained enemy aliens, Germans and Austrians who had escaped from Nazi Germany. Men from the No. 10 Commando served in the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, Burma and Western Europe during the Second World War, mostly in small numbers attached to other formations, never as a complete unit.
The commandos were formed in 1940, by the order of Winston Churchill the British Prime Minister. He called for specially trained troops that would "develop a reign of terror down the enemy coast". At first they were a small force of volunteers who carried out small raids against enemy occupied territory, but by 1943 their role had changed into lightly equipped assault Infantry which specialized in spearheading amphibious landings.
The man selected as the overall commander of the force was Admiral Sir Roger Keyes himself a veteran of the landings at Galipoli and the Zeebrugge raid in the First World War. By March 1941 there were 11 battalion sized units now called commandos and each commando would consist of around 390 men in a small headquarters and six troops of three officers and 62 men each.
The idea for a foreign commando unit came from a junior French naval officer, Philippe Kieffer, after he heard of the successful Lofoten raid. The idea was eventually put to the then Chief of Combined Operations, Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten who could see the value of a foreign commando unit but insisted it should include volunteers from all the occupied territories.
The No. 3 (X) Troop was possibly the strangest unit in the British Army, consisting of enemy aliens. Under the command of Captain Hylton-Jones the first men to arrive in July 1942 were eight men from Czechoslovakia. The troop was also known as the English, Jewish or British troop and was officially renamed the Miscellaneous Troop in 1944. Most of the troop were Jewish and had German, Austrian or Eastern European backgrounds, others were political or religious refugees from Nazi Germany, and at least one member had been imprisoned in Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps. All members of the troop adopted British names and false personnel histories. A total of 130 men served in X Troop, but they never fought as a complete unit but provided valuable service to other formations as interpreters and interrogators. The troop lost 21 men killed and a further 22 wounded, among the highest casualty rate of any British military unit in the war.
The men from No. 10 (Inter-Allied) Commando were usually attached to other units who used their knowledge of the area of operations and the language to their advantage as interpreters and interrogators.
The first action men from the Commando took part in was the Raid on Dieppe (Operation Jubilee) on 19 August 1942. The No. 1 (French) Troop were attached to No.3 and No. 4 Commando, to act as interpreters, gather information, and also to persuade Frenchmen to return with them and enlist in the Free French forces. The men attached to No. 4 Commando assisted them in the capture of the Hess gun battery.

Europa Universalis IV is a grand strategy game, developed by Paradox Development Studios and published by Paradox Interactive, from Sweden. The game was released in August 2013, which means that it is now actually somewhat old. Over the years, many expansions and a lot of DLC has been released.
Now, in december 2015, another expansion has been released: The Cossacks! We explore the new expansion with a somewhat less than predictable country choice: Japan. We play from 1444 as the Japanese Shogunate, and first united all Daimyo's on the Japanese island. After that, we started colonizing in South Asia and the New World, and we have also gone land inwards towards the horde nations. Let's see where the game takes us!
