En 2003 se estrenó, primero en Inglaterra y después en EEUU, el documental realizado por Martin Bashir, "Living with Michael Jackson".
Bashir editó el documental, cortando las contestaciones del Sr. Jackson, de modo que pareciera que decía una cosa diferente a la que realmente dijo. Además, añadió su voz en off, haciendo todo tipo de insinuaciones sobre el astro del pop.
Las insinuaciones de Bashir llegaron tan lejos, que este documental y él mismo, fueron uno de los motivos que en 2005, ayudaron a Thomas Sneddon -Fiscal de Distrito- a sentar al Sr. Jackson en el banquillo de los acusados.
Bashir y su documental fueron los primeros testigos de un largo y vergonzoso juicio contra Jackson. El pseudoperiodista británico se negó a contestar a ninguna pregunta. Sin embargo, el abogado principal de la defensa, el Sr. Mesereau, no tiró la toalla.
Llevó a cabo su contra-interrogatorio, a pesar de que el británico rechaza contestar todas y cada una de sus preguntas, acogiéndose a las leyes norteamericanas que dan amplias vías de escape a los periodistas.
Incluso se negó a responder las preguntas a las que sí debía contestar, haciendo que el Juez Melville, a petición del Sr. Mesereau, tuviera que estudiar a posteriori, si podía acusarlo de desacato.
Thomas "Huracán" Mesereau siguió interrogándolo, sin tirar la toalla para, gracias a sus preguntas, lanzarle un claro mensaje a los miembros del jurado:
1) Bashir nunca estudió la carrera de periodismo.
2) Bashir había sido acusado formalmente -incluyendo al Sr. Jackson-, de malas prácticas periodísticas. Todas las personas que lo acusaron coincidieron en decir que él había editado sus respuestas, haciendo parecer que habían dicho otra cosa diferente a la que realmente dijeron.
3) Al parecer, Bashir había sido acusado por FALSIFICAR la firma de otras personas. Mediante esta pregunta no respondida, Mesereau dejó entrever al jurado que una de esas personas, presuntamente, era Michael Jackson. Bashir y el astro del pop firmaron dos contratos. Durante la firma de uno de ellos, los abogados de Jackson NO estaban presentes.
Así pues, aunque el británico no contestó a ninguna pregunta, la habilidad de Mesereau hizo que el jurado pudiera poner a este testigo en entredicho.
"Take Two" fue el documental de contraataque de Jackson al "Living with Michael Jackson".
El Sr. Jackson tuvo la gran idea de hacer que su camarógrafo personal grabara el documental de Bashir simultáneamente y de forma íntegra. De tal modo que el "Take Two" se convirtió en otra de las pruebas del juicio, esta vez, aportada por la defensa. Gracias a su visionado, los miembros del jurado pudieron ver por sí mismos las manipulaciones del británico en cuanto a las respuestas que el Sr. Jackson le dio.
Cuando Bashir entró en la sala de justicia, Jackson le miró de frente. Sin embargo, el inglés evitó por todos los medios enfrentar su mirada. No hubo ni una sola ocasión en que dirigiera la vista hacia la persona de la que había hecho insinuaciones tan graves. Es más, el abogado de la cadena de TV para la que Bashir trabajaba, el Sr. Boutrouss, se interpuso en el medio de ambos, de tal modo que su cuerpo no diera lugar a un intercambio visual entre su cliente y el acusado, Michael Jackson.
Sin embargo, como Bashir contestaba en voz muy baja (para decir que se negaba a responder a las preguntas), el Sr. Jackson se acercó a su propio micrófono y le pidió que por favor hablara más alto porque no se lo oía.
Este hombre que en el juicio -un proceso en el que Jackson, padre de 3 niños pequeños, se jugaba 20 años de cárcel-, se negó a responder, el 25 de junio de 2009, abrió su programa de TV diciendo que lamentaba el fallecimiento de Michael Jackson, que él jamás creyó que fuera un criminal.

10/18/13 - MSNBC's Martin Bashir got into a heated back-and-forth with tea party activist Larry Klayman on Friday over Klayman's attacks on President Obama as a foreign-born Muslim whose foreign policies benefit America's enemies at the expense of the United States and Israel. Klayman insisted he was being metaphorical when speaking about Obama, which set Bashir off even further.
Bashir first brought up Klayman's book about political "whores" and asked him between Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell who the whore is. Klayman said it was McConnell, hands-down.
Things got way more heated when Bashir brought up a clip of Klayman saying Obama should leave town and "put the Qu'ran down," asking him if he really believes Obama is a "foreign-born Muslims who has hoodwinked the entire nation." Klayman argued his statements were "metaphoric," "but they ring true" because Obama has done everything he can to harm the U.S. in the Middle East.
Bashir asked, "Was it the act of a rabble-rouser who tells lies in public just to incite the crowd? And I have to ask you, who's the whore now?"
Klayman took a shot at MSNBC for, once again, using "cropped quotes," and then Bashir asked this burning question.
"How would you defend yourself if accused of being a delusional racist whose hatred for this president is, in fact, a form of psychiatric pathology, an illness?"

Martin Bashir
Martin Bashir (born 19 January 1963) is a Pakistani-British journalist who was a political commentator for MSNBC, hosting Martin Bashir, and a correspondent for NBC's Dateline NBC. He was previously an anchor for ABC's Nightline after initially gaining prominence on British television with his BBC interview with Diana, Princess of Wales, and then his fly on the wall documentary with pop singer Michael Jackson on ITV. On 4 December 2013, Bashir resigned from his position at MSNBC after he made "ill-judged comments" about the former Governor of Alaska and Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Early life
Bashir was born and raised in Wandsworth, London, to parents of Pakistani Christian origin. He was educated at the state comprehensive Wandsworth School for Boys and King Alfred's College of Higher Education, Winchester, studying English and History from 1982–1985 and King's College London.
Career
He started work as a journalist in 1986. He worked for the BBC until 1999 on programmes including Songs of Praise, Public Eye and Panorama and then he joined ITV, working on special documentary programmes and features for Tonight with Trevor McDonald.

Michael Jackson
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. Called the King of Pop, his contributions to music and dance, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.
The eighth child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his elder brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon as a member of the Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller" from his 1982 album Thriller, were credited with breaking down racial barriers and with transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool. The popularity of these videos helped to bring the then-relatively-new television channel MTV to fame. His 1987 album Bad spawned the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror", and "Dirty Diana", becoming the first album to have five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. With videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream", he continued to innovate the medium throughout the 1990s, as well as forging a reputation as a touring solo artist. Through stage and video performances, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive sound and style has influenced numerous artists of various music genres.

Bashir editó el documental, cortando las contestaciones del Sr. Jackson, de modo que pareciera que decía una cosa diferente a la que realmente dijo. Además, añadió su voz en off, haciendo todo tipo de insinuaciones sobre el astro del pop.
Las insinuaciones de Bashir llegaron tan lejos, que este documental y él mismo, fueron uno de los motivos que en 2005, ayudaron a Thomas Sneddon -Fiscal de Distrito- a sentar al Sr. Jackson en el banquillo de los acusados.
Bashir y su documental fueron los primeros testigos de un largo y vergonzoso juicio contra Jackson. El pseudoperiodista británico se negó a contestar a ninguna pregunta. Sin embargo, el abogado principal de la defensa, el Sr. Mesereau, no tiró la toalla.
Llevó a cabo su contra-interrogatorio, a pesar de que el británico rechaza contestar todas y cada una de sus preguntas, acogiéndose a las leyes norteamericanas que dan amplias vías de escape a los periodistas.
Incluso se negó a responder las preguntas a las que sí debía contestar, haciendo que el Juez Melville, a petición del Sr. Mesereau, tuviera que estudiar a posteriori, si podía acusarlo de desacato.
Thomas "Huracán" Mesereau siguió interrogándolo, sin tirar la toalla para, gracias a sus preguntas, lanzarle un claro mensaje a los miembros del jurado:
1) Bashir nunca estudió la carrera de periodismo.
2) Bashir había sido acusado formalmente -incluyendo al Sr. Jackson-, de malas prácticas periodísticas. Todas las personas que lo acusaron coincidieron en decir que él había editado sus respuestas, haciendo parecer que habían dicho otra cosa diferente a la que realmente dijeron.
3) Al parecer, Bashir había sido acusado por FALSIFICAR la firma de otras personas. Mediante esta pregunta no respondida, Mesereau dejó entrever al jurado que una de esas personas, presuntamente, era Michael Jackson. Bashir y el astro del pop firmaron dos contratos. Durante la firma de uno de ellos, los abogados de Jackson NO estaban presentes.
Así pues, aunque el británico no contestó a ninguna pregunta, la habilidad de Mesereau hizo que el jurado pudiera poner a este testigo en entredicho.
"Take Two" fue el documental de contraataque de Jackson al "Living with Michael Jackson".
El Sr. Jackson tuvo la gran idea de hacer que su camarógrafo personal grabara el documental de Bashir simultáneamente y de forma íntegra. De tal modo que el "Take Two" se convirtió en otra de las pruebas del juicio, esta vez, aportada por la defensa. Gracias a su visionado, los miembros del jurado pudieron ver por sí mismos las manipulaciones del británico en cuanto a las respuestas que el Sr. Jackson le dio.
Cuando Bashir entró en la sala de justicia, Jackson le miró de frente. Sin embargo, el inglés evitó por todos los medios enfrentar su mirada. No hubo ni una sola ocasión en que dirigiera la vista hacia la persona de la que había hecho insinuaciones tan graves. Es más, el abogado de la cadena de TV para la que Bashir trabajaba, el Sr. Boutrouss, se interpuso en el medio de ambos, de tal modo que su cuerpo no diera lugar a un intercambio visual entre su cliente y el acusado, Michael Jackson.
Sin embargo, como Bashir contestaba en voz muy baja (para decir que se negaba a responder a las preguntas), el Sr. Jackson se acercó a su propio micrófono y le pidió que por favor hablara más alto porque no se lo oía.
Este hombre que en el juicio -un proceso en el que Jackson, padre de 3 niños pequeños, se jugaba 20 años de cárcel-, se negó a responder, el 25 de junio de 2009, abrió su programa de TV diciendo que lamentaba el fallecimiento de Michael Jackson, que él jamás creyó que fuera un criminal.

Klayman insisted he was being metaphorical when speaking about Obama, which set Bashir off even further.
Bashir first brought up Klayman's book about political "whores" and asked him between Ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell who the whore is. Klayman said it was McConnell, hands-down.
Things got way more heated when Bashir brought up a clip of Klayman saying Obama should leave town and "put the Qu'ran down," asking him if he really believes Obama is a "foreign-born Muslims who has hoodwinked the entire nation." Klayman argued his statements were "metaphoric," "but they ring true" because Obama has done everything he can to harm the U.S. in the Middle East.
Bashir asked, "Was it the act of a rabble-rouser who tells lies in public just to incite the crowd? And I have to ask you, who's the whore now?"
Klayman took a shot at MSNBC for, once again, using "cropped quotes," and then Bashir asked this burning question.
"How would you defend yourself if accused of being a delusional racist whose hatred for this president is, in fact, a form of psychiatric pathology, an illness?"

Jacksons decision to make the documentary was made on the suggestion by his close friend Uri Geller. It later emerged that Geller had turned down another bid for the interview by journalist Louis Theroux. The interview was very unusual, as it had been extremely rare for Jackson to allow such access to his personal life, or to talk so freely about his traumatic childhood. Nevertheless, he did show some reserve when asked to discuss other personal issues, such as the plastic surgery he has had.
Jackson felt betrayed by Bashir and complained that the film gives a distorted picture of his behaviour and conduct as a father. He claims that Bashir, in the final version of his interview, used only that material which supported Bashirs opinion of Jackson, which was not a favorable one.
Jackson filed complaints with the UKs Independent Television Commission and the Broadcasting Standards Commission.
Jacksons lawyers claimed in a British High Court case against Martin Bashir and Granada TV that the documentary was a breach of contract and breach of confidence. The proceedings were put on hold when Jackson was charged with 10 felony counts in late 2003, but the proceedings could continue after since Jacksons acquittal. However this is unlikely following his death.
Ann Kite, a public relations consultant hired by Jacksons advisers to counter negative publicity, called the documentary a PR-disaster.
