The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Arabic: قوة الأمم المتحدة المؤقتة في لبنان), or UNIFIL (يونيفيل) and also known as the UN, was originally created by the United Nations, with the adoption of Security Council Resolution 425 and 426 on 19 March 1978, to confirm Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon which Israel had invaded five days prior, restore international peace and security, and help the Government of Lebanon restore its effective authority in the area.
The mandate had to be adjusted twice, due to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and after the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon in 2000.
Following the 2006 Lebanon War, the United Nations Security Council enhanced UNIFIL and decided that in addition to the original mandate, it would, among other things, monitor the cessation of hostilities; accompany and support the Lebanese Armed Forces as they deploy throughout the south of Lebanon; and extend its assistance to help ensure humanitarian access to civilian populations and the voluntary and safe return of displaced persons.
The Lebanese people (Arabic: الشعب اللبناني / ALA-LC: ash-shaʻb al-Libnānī Lebanese Arabic pronunciation: [eʃˈʃaʕeb ellɪbˈneːne]) are the nation of Lebanon. The religious groups among the Lebanese people are Shias (27%), Sunnis (27%), Maronites (21%), Greek Orthodox (8%), Melkites (5%), Druze (5%), and Protestants (1%). There is a large diaspora in North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Africa. The term may also include those who had inhabited Mount Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon mountains prior to the creation of the modern Lebanese state.
The cultural and linguistic heritage of the Lebanese people is a blend of both indigenous Phoenician elements and the foreign cultures that have come to rule the land and its people over the course of thousands of years. In a 2013 interview the lead investigator, Pierre Zalloua, pointed out that genetic variation preceded religious variation and divisions: "Lebanon already had well-differentiated communities with their own genetic peculiarities, but not significant differences, and religions came as layers of paint on top. There is no distinct pattern that shows that one community carries significantly more Phoenician than another."
This vid shows a confrontation i Southern Lebanon, between on one side the following elements of UNIFIL, APC platoon/Coy A/NORBATT XXV, UNIFIL Force Mobile Reserve (FMR) and lastly one bulldozer from SVEDENGCOY, & on the other elements of the Israeli defence forces (IDF), that took place on the 23th of July 1990. The item of dispute was a new road to the IDF position PV-68 (UNIFIL designation), near the South Lebanese village of Kaokaba, that the IDF wanted to build a bit further away from the Litani river than the allready existing access road to PV-68. On the part of IDF, I guess they hoped the new road would make the approach to PV-68 less exposed to ambushes with what nowdays are termed IEDs, but back then were just called "roadside bombs". With regards to UNIFIL/NORBATT the new road w...
This video was taken before two UNIFIL troops retreated to a village, as published on TV ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yKsiaGmdEM ). This is what peace maker army does, they are not allowed to use their weapon if both sides already in an active combat and they are ordered to retreat to the base. Chronology told by a witness (User : ranggawulung08) : There was gun fight between Lebanon (LAF) and Israel (IDF) at 12 pm after UNIFIL Indobatt tried to prevent the fight for 4 hours since 8 am. When an escalation began, Israel gave shot 6 times by Merkava Cavalry 120mm. An Apache chopper shot 12.7mm 4 times and launched phosphoric bomb. A fighter jet shot the hill around them. Indobatt moved to another place since the LAF area was not safe. This escalation ran for 3 hours. Two Indobatt...
Suomalaisten tehtävänä on valvoa eri osapuolten välistä vihollisuuksien lopettamista omalla vastuualueellaan ja avustaa Libanonin asevoimia saamaan toimialue maan viranomaisten hallintaan. Beirutiin saapumisen jälkeen joukko aloitti iltaan saakka kestäneen siirtymisensä kohti eteläisessä Libanonissa sijaitsevaa YK:n tukikohtaa 6-5, joka tunnetaan nimellä "Shamrock" (apila). Nimi on irlantilaisten rauhanturvaajien antama, sillä suomalaiset siirtyivät suorittamaan tehtäväänsä yhdessä irlantilaisten rauhanturvaajakollegojensa kanssa. Joukko saapui tukikohtaan illan jo käännyttyä yöksi. Irlantilaiset esikuntaupseerit tervehtivät portilla saapuvaa suomalaista joukkoa säkkipillisoittajan musisoides...

The story's been told a million fold
Of an artist's search for fame
As the years go by
His soul cries out in vain
All in fun when all's been done
Can you bear the weight
The tears you cry
Will never change your fate
Chorus: Lust for life
And hands that worked so clever
The sadness lasts forever
When the battles been lost a costly cost
Rotting in the grave
As the years go by
The world is left to blame
