Is Modern Icelandic the same thing as Old Norse? Is it even possible for a language to undergo no change? A linguist who has taught both languages offers some thoughts. Dr. Jackson Crawford teaches in the Department of Scandinavian at the University of California, Berkeley (formerly at UCLA). His new, contemporary translation of the Poetic Edda—the most important source for the stories of the Norse gods and heroes—is available at http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Edda-Stories-Hackett-Classics/dp/1624663567/ Support Dr. Jackson Crawford's educational videos about Old Norse language and literature on Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/norsebysw and get exclusive bonus content. Parts from "fyrstu skrefin - first steps", an Icelandic mini-show about babies, toddlers, and pregnant mothers. You can find archived episodes of the show on mbl.is. These parts are only the parts with kids talking, most of the show is actually interviews with parents and daycare providers. I have no plans to sub this but if someone else does, I can put the subs in the video.

Subscribe to FIGHTLAND: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Fightland Despite its tiny population, Iceland has a reputation in the World's Strongest Man competition that stands higher than perhaps any other country's. This small, black rock in the middle of the ocean has produced a lineage of strongmen dating back to the Vikings. VICE went out there to investigate why this tiny island produces such strong people. Hanging out at Jakabol—a gym run by ex-champion Magnus Ver Magnusson—we met a whole host of Icelandic strongmen, which includes Hafthor "Thor" Bjornsson, the 6'9" star of Game of Thrones. Mulan belongs to Disney!!! --------------------------- Well, the translation is okay I suppose. I mean MY translation. There are things which I would like to fix a bit, but nothing of great deal. It passes for now. I'll trim this thing later :) But for some reason I think Shang sounds very sexy in Icelandic :3 And the version is quite powerful in general. So, I think the dubbing is good. People seemed to notice the last time how much Shang rolls his r's here. Well, it isn't unusual and they roll the r's more in Disney when a villain sings or something powerful is going on, opposite of a quiet song :) ---For Icelandic Learners--- Stríð - War [neuter] Konur - Women (Kona - Woman) [feminine] Treystu! - Trust! (að treysta - to trust, followed by dative. 'Treystu mér' for example.) ...

Megastructures - Icelandic Super Dam Documentary Kárahnjúkar Hydropower Plant (Icelandic Kárahnjúkavirkjun) is a hydroelectric power plant in Fljótsdalshérað municipality in eastern Iceland designed to produce 4,600 gigawatt-hours (17,000 TJ) annually for Alcoa's Fjardaál aluminum smelter 75 kilometres (47 mi) to the east in Reyðarfjörður. With the installed capacity of 690 megawatts (930,000 hp), the plant is the largest hydroelectric power plant in Iceland. The project, named after nearby Mount Kárahnjúkur, involves damming the Jökulsá á Dal river and the Jökulsá í Fljótsdal river with five dams, creating three reservoirs. Water from the reservoirs is then diverted through 73 kilometres (45 mi) of underground water tunnels and down a 420-metre (1,380 ft) vertical penstock towards a sing...
When we first started our Icelandic Chicken (also known as Landnámshænan) journey, we were literally inundated with hatching egg sales and "extra" hen/rooster sales. Why? Because Icelandic Chickens are THE self-sufficient chicken for the modern homesteader. And here's why. ---------------------- I HIGHLY encourage you to read Harvey Ussery's article written in Mother Earth News Magazine here -- http://www.motherearthnews.com/homesteading-and-livestock/raising-chickens/icelandic-chickens-zm0z14onzkin.aspx Icelandic Chicken Facebook Group -- https://www.facebook.com/groups/icelandicchickens/ ** Please be warned, if you join the Icelandic FB group, you better have your big girl panties on.
