Oriental (native Middle Eastern) Jews. The last of Biblical Hebrew tribes. Historic photos of Mizrahi Jews from Iraq (0:09 and all photos btw 0:25 and 2:12), Saudia Arabia (0:17) and Yemen (from 2:15 until the end, also 0:01). Genetically, Iraqi Jews are the purest surviving Semitic Jews. Namely Iraqi Jews (and to a great extent Yemenite Jews) seem to be the closest to the intermediate Jewish Semitic genetic samples. Yemenite Jews preserved the most ancient form of Hebrew. Hebrew Music by Sabina (Ashkenazi), Israel: Track 1: Kadosh (Holy). Track 2: Moyde ani lefaneykho.

We also have to bear in mind that in the Jewish tradition it is the maternal ancestry that had always been defining Jewishness. Also: Ashkenazi Levites have mainly East European lineages (having 50 % of Slavic haplogroup R1a, just as Ukrainians & Poles) suggesting a possible Khazar source in that particular case. And according to genetic study by Shen, an average male Ashkenazi has 30 % (23 % in study by Behar) of European R1a & R1b vs 25 % (19 % in Behar) of Semtic J1 & J. All of the above is in big contrast to Mizrahi Jews. At least Jewish Ashkenazi females, Ashkenazi Levites (and all other Ashkenazi males in at least 30 % degree) are not from Biblical Hebrew tribes but from Europeans. Falashes (Ethiopian Jews) have African DNA (not Middle Eastern) and are from Ethiopian converts too. Krymchaks & Karaites have Turkic DNA. Bnei Maneshe have Far-East Asian DNA, not Semitic neither. I am in no way anti-Ashkenazi or anti-Falashi, this is just plain research.

Mizrahi Jews
Mizrahi Jews, Mizrahim (Hebrew: מזרחים) or Mashriqiyyun (Arabic: المشرقيون), also referred to as Edot HaMizrach (עֲדוֹת-הַמִּזְרָח; Communities of the East; Mizrahi Hebrew: ʿEdot(h) Ha(m)Mizraḥ), Ben ha-Mizraḥ; Bene ha-Mizraḥ ("Sons of the East") or Oriental Jews are Jews descended from local Jewish communities of the Middle East. The term Mizrahi is most commonly used in Israel to refer to Jews who trace their roots back to Muslim-majority countries. This includes descendants of Babylonian Jews and Mountain Jews from modern Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Dagestan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Caucasus, Kurdistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Also, Yemenite, Turkish and Persian Jews are usually included within the Mizrahi Jewish group. The term Mizrahim often consists of Maghrebi Jews, including Sephardic who lived in North Africa (Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco).
The use of the term Mizrahi can be somewhat controversial. Before the establishment of the state of Israel, Mizrahi Jews did not identify themselves as a separate ethnic subgroup. Instead, Mizrahi Jews generally characterized themselves as Sephardi, because they follow the traditions of Sephardic Judaism (although with some differences among the minhagim of the particular communities). This has resulted in a conflation of terms, particularly in Israel, and in religious usage, where "Sephardi" is used in a broad sense to include Mizrahi Jews and Maghrebi Jews as well as Sephardim proper. Indeed, from the point of view of the official Israeli rabbinate, any rabbis of Mizrahi origin in Israel are under the jurisdiction of the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel. Mizrahi Jews make up the largest ethnic group in Israel, and as of 2005, over 50% of Israeli Jews are of at least partial Mizrahi ancestry.

The Jews (/dʒuːz/;Hebrew: יְהוּדִים ISO 259-3 Yehudim, Israeli pronunciation [jehuˈdim]), also known as the Jewish people, are an ethnoreligious group originating from the Israelites, or Hebrews, of the Ancient Near East. Jewish ethnicity, nationhood and religion are strongly interrelated, as Judaism is the traditional faith of the Jewish nation, while its observance varies from strict observance to complete nonobservance.
The Jews trace their ethnogenesis to the part of the Levant known as the Land of Israel. The discovery of the Merneptah Stele confirms the existence of the people of Israel in Canaan as far back as the 13th century BCE. Since then, while maintaining rule over their homeland during certain periods—such as under the Kingdom of Israel, the Kingdom of Judah, the Hasmonean Dynasty, and the Herodian Kingdom—Jews also suffered various exiles and occupations from their homeland—from Ancient Egyptian Occupation of the Levant, to Assyrian Captivity and Exile, to Babylonian Captivity and Exile, to Greek Occupation and Exile, to the Roman Occupation and Exile. These events subjected Jews to slavery, pogroms, cultural assimilation, forced expulsions, genocide, and more, scattering Jews all around the world, in what is known today as the Jewish diaspora.

Yemenite Jews
Yemenite Jews (Hebrew: יהודי תימן Yehudei teiman; Arabic: اليهود اليمنيين) are those Jews who live, or once lived, in Yemen. The term may also refer to the descendants of the Yemenite Jewish community. Between June 1949 and September 1950, the overwhelming majority of Yemen's Jewish population was transported to Israel in Operation Magic Carpet. After several waves of persecution throughout Yemen, most Yemenite Jews now live in Israel, while small communities are found in the United States and elsewhere. Only a handful remain in Yemen. The few remaining Jews experience intense, and at times violent, anti-Semitism on a daily basis.
Yemenite Jews have a unique religious tradition that marks them out as separate from Ashkenazi, Sephardi and other Jewish groups. Yemenite Jews are generally described as belonging to "Mizrahi Jews", though they differ from the general trend of Mizrahi groups in Israel, which have undergone a process of total or partial assimilation to Sephardic culture and Sephardic liturgy. (While the Shami sub-group of Yemenite Jews did adopt a Sephardic-influenced rite, this was in no small part due to it essentially being forced upon them and did not reflect a demographic or cultural shift).

Historic photos of Mizrahi Jews from Iraq (0:09 and all photos btw 0:25 and 2:12), Saudia Arabia (0:17) and Yemen (from 2:15 until the end, also 0:01). Genetically, Iraqi Jews are the purest surviving Semitic Jews. Namely Iraqi Jews (and to a great extent Yemenite Jews) seem to be the closest to the intermediate Jewish Semitic genetic samples. Yemenite Jews preserved the most ancient form of Hebrew. Hebrew Music by Sabina (Ashkenazi), Israel: Track 1: Kadosh (Holy). Track 2: Moyde ani lefaneykho.
Genetic research on Jewish origins (its highly respected scientific publication): http://www.nature.com/ncomms/2013/131008/ncomms3543/full/ncomms3543.html It concludes "Overall, it seems that at least 80% of Ashkenazi (European Jewish) maternal ancestry is due to the assimilation of mtDNAs indigenous to Europe, most likely through conversion." We also have to bear in mind that in the Jewish tradition it is the maternal ancestry that had always been defining Jewishness. Also: Ashkenazi Levites have mainly East European lineages (having 50 % of Slavic haplogroup R1a, just as Ukrainians & Poles) suggesting a possible Khazar source in that particular case. And according to genetic study by Shen, an average male Ashkenazi has 30 % (23 % in study by Behar) of European R1a & R1b vs 25 % (19 % in Behar) of Semtic J1 & J. All of the above is in big contrast to Mizrahi Jews. At least Jewish Ashkenazi females, Ashkenazi Levites (and all other Ashkenazi males in at least 30 % degree) are not from Biblical Hebrew tribes but from Europeans. Falashes (Ethiopian Jews) have African DNA (not Middle Eastern) and are from Ethiopian converts too. Krymchaks & Karaites have Turkic DNA. Bnei Maneshe have Far-East Asian DNA, not Semitic neither. I am in no way anti-Ashkenazi or anti-Falashi, this is just plain research.

Genetic research on Jewish origins (its highly respected scientific publication): http://www.nature.com/ncomms/2013/131008/ncomms3543/full/ncomms3543.html It concludes "Overall, it seems that at least 80% of Ashkenazi (European Jewish) maternal ancestry is due to the assimilation of mtDNAs indigenous to Europe, most likely through conversion." We also have to bear in mind that in the Jewish tradition it is the maternal ancestry that had always been defining Jewishness. Also: Ashkenazi Levites have mainly East European lineages (having 50 % of Slavic haplogroup R1a, just as Ukrainians & Poles) suggesting a possible Khazar source in that particular case. And according to genetic study by Shen, an average male Ashkenazi has 30 % (23 % in study by Behar) of European R1a & R1b vs 25 % (19 % in Behar) of Semtic J1 & J. All of the above is in big contrast to Mizrahi Jews. At least Jewish Ashkenazi females, Ashkenazi Levites (and all other Ashkenazi males in at least 30 % degree) are not from Biblical Hebrew tribes but from Europeans. Falashes (Ethiopian Jews) have African DNA (not Middle Eastern) and are from Ethiopian converts too. Krymchaks & Karaites have Turkic DNA. Bnei Maneshe have Far-East Asian DNA, not Semitic neither. I am in no way anti-Ashkenazi or anti-Falashi, this is just plain research.
