Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Rupert Murdoch, the 83-year-old media tycoon, just proved he still has the power, the sway and the influence to completely shake up the media world. His company 21st Century Fox offered to buy Time Warner Inc, the owner of the original 24-hour news channel CNN, HBO, and the Warner Brothers film studios, for more than $75m - a move that would unite two of the world's most powerful media conglomerates. How can he win his takeover bid? And how would the takeover of Time Warner reshape the media landscape? On Counting the Cost we talk to Claire Enders, th...
In 2000, AOL purchased Time Warner for US$164 billion. The deal, announced on January 10, 2000 and officially filed on February 11, 2000, employed a merger structure in which each original company merged into a newly created entity. The Federal Trade Commission cleared the deal on December 14, 2000, and gave final approval on January 11, 2001; the company completed the merger later that day. The deal was approved on the same day by the Federal Communications Commission, and had already been cleared by the European Commission on October 11, 2000. Due to the larger market capitalization of AOL, they would own 55% of the new company while Time Warner shareholders owned only 45%, so in actual practice AOL had acquired Time Warner, even though AOL had far less assets and revenues. The 2001 AOL...

One of the best cases studies for the transformative nature of digital is the entertainment industry. Just one example surely proves that entertainment needs Chief Digital Officers: Blockbuster Video. Yet while Hollywood and the digital revolution have not always been perfect bedfellows, one would be remiss to think that entertainment companies need CDOs just to survive. Instead, the CDO Club brought together some of the most potent architects of change within the industry to tell us how to use digital not just to survive, but thrive in a world of diverse content creation, consumption, and distribution. "The Entertainment Ecosystem" panel was held at the 2nd annual CDO Summit at Time Warner in New York City on April 22, 2014, and featured the following participants: ✰ Kristen O'Hara:...
