Wendy O. Williams

Wendy Orlean Williams (May 28, 1949 – April 6, 1998), better known as Wendy O. Williams, was an American singer, songwriter and actress. Born in Webster, New York, she first came to prominence as the lead singer of the punk rock band Plasmatics. Her infamous stage theatrics included blowing up equipment, near nudity and chain-sawing guitars. After she left home at the age of 16, Williams hitchhiked her way to Colorado, earning money by crocheting string bikinis. She later traveled to Florida and Europe landing various jobs such as lifeguard, stripper and server at Dunkin' Donuts. When she returned to California in 1978, she began performing in live sex shows and later appeared in the adult film, Candy Goes to Hollywood (1979). That same year, she was approached by the manager Rod Swenson, who recruited her to join his newly formed punk rock band, Plasmatics. The band shortly became known on the New York City underground scene, performing at clubs such as CBGB.

After releasing three albums with Plasmatics, Williams embarked on a solo career and in 1984 released her debut album, WOW. She followed with the albums Kommander of Kaos (1986) and Deffest! and Baddest! (1988), before she retired from the music industry. Williams made her screen debut in Tom DeSimone's film Reform School Girls (1986), for which she recorded the title song. She also appeared in the 1989 comedy Pucker Up and Bark Like a Dog, and television series The New Adventures of Beans Baxter and MacGyver. On April 6, 1998, Williams committed suicide near her home in Storrs, Connecticut.

WOW (Wendy O. Williams album)

WOW is the debut studio album by American singer Wendy O. Williams, released in 1984 by Passport Records. It is her first solo album not to be credited to her band Plasmatics, which went on a hiatus during that time. After the release of the album, Coup d'État (1982) with Plasmatics, the band was asked to appear as a special guest on the KISS tour. By the end of the tour, Plasmatics' recording contract with Capitol Records wasn't renewed and Gene Simmons approached Williams and Rod Swenson about producing the next album. As to avoid any time in legal issues with Capitol, they decided not to use the Plasmatics name on the record. Simmons also felt it would give him the freedom he wanted to add new players to the album. WOW is a hard rock album influenced by heavy metal, which marked a musical departure from Williams' previous material with Plasmatics. Williams was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for the album in 1985.

Wes Beech remained to play rhythm and lead guitars and T.C. Tolliver, the drummer on Coup d'État, remained to play on the new album. Simmons would play bass under the pseudonym of "Reginald Van Helsing". The only other new player on the album was lead guitarist Michael Ray to solve the technical challenges that had been a problem for several albums and had come to a head with the more complex music of Coup d'Etat. Simmons also pulled in the talents of Ace Frehley on "Bump and Grind", who hadn't played with KISS since leaving the band in 1982, Paul Stanley, on "Ready to Rock" and then-current KISS drummer Eric Carr on "Legends Never Die" as guests.

?! is the third studio album by Italian rapper Caparezza, and his first release not to use the former stage name MikiMix.

Reception

Reviewing the album for Allmusic, Jason Birchmeier wrote, "The Italian rapper drops his rhymes with just as much fluency and dexterity as his American peers throughout the album. [...] Caparezza's mastery of the Italian dialect [makes] this album so stunning."

Album (Land of the Lost)

"Album" is the seventh episode of the first season of the 1974 American television series Land of the Lost. Written by Dick Morgan and directed by Bob Lally, it first aired in the United States on October 19, 1974 on NBC. The episode guest stars Erica Hagen.

Plot

Will awakens in the early morning to a high-pitched whirring sound which fills the jungle, but eventually it goes away. Rick has Holly build a trap to catch whatever has been breaking into their stores, and Will goes to weed the garden. While outside, he again hears the sound and follows it to the Lost City. Within, he enters a chamber with a very crude-looking attempt to simulate a matrix table but filled with colored stones instead of crystals. On the ground is a pulsating blue crystal that attracts his attention. Picking it up, he sees his mother (Erica Hagen) materialize in a cloud of mist. Afterwards, he returns to High Bluff but doesn't speak of his encounter.

The next day Holly's trap has not worked, and Will again hears the sound. Holly hears it briefly as well, but dismisses it. Will returns to the Lost City and again witnesses his mother while holding a blue stone. His mother calls for him, but he is interrupted by Holly, who sees nothing until she touches the blue crystal as well. Holding it together, they are both beckoned by their mother to "come home," but then she quickly adds, "Too late. Come tomorrow. Don't tell." Will explains to Holly that he wants to tell Rick about his discovery but for some reason he is unable to. Holly replies that she will tell their father if he does not and Will sincerely hopes that she can. Will theorizes that they were looking through a time doorway that is open to a period when she was still alive. When Holly asks why her image is not very clear, her brother suggests that it might be because they do not remember her very well.

Wow! (online service)

Wow! (styled WOW!) was an online service run by CompuServe.com in 1996 and early 1997. Started in March 1996, it was originally thought to be an improved version of CompuServe's software, but it was later announced that it would be a user-friendly stand-alone "family" online service and was widely advertised on TV as such. Wow! was the first internet service to be offered with a monthly "unlimited" rate ($17.95) and stood out because of its brightly colored, seemingly hand-drawn pages.

The first release of this program was quite buggy, with many random shutdowns of the service and loss of email messages. The service developed a small, but very loyal fan base. However, this was not enough and the service was shut down on January 31, 1997.

There is a strong group of "WOWIES" who have fought on for years after its demise, to stay connected through chat groups, and a webring. This group believes they were "sold out" by Compuserve because the service was being bought out by AOL, who began offering a $19.95 unlimited service as it was shutting down WOW.

Wow (Superbus album)

Wow is the third album from the French power pop group Superbus. It reached the sixth place on French album charts. It was released on 16 October 2006.
