"Baja California was somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit," filmmaker Joshua Cowan says. The sliver of land that stretches 775 miles along the western coast of Mexico is chock full of secluded spots that would be country-wide highlights anyplace else. Cowan hung out in hot springs, surfed on deserted, world-class beaches, went fishing in the bright blue waters off the coast, and trekked the peninsula's jungles.
The jagged coastlines, the staggering landscapes, and the breathtaking sunsets are a sight to behold. Fortunately enough, Cowan brought along his camera.

Baja California stretches 750 miles southwards from its famous neighbour, the State of California. On either side of this narrow strip of land lie the rich waters of the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez. The peninsula, for the most part, is desert. Stark but beautiful, its raw landscape, naked rocks and giant cactus contrast with the crystal blue waters of the sea that surrounds it. Isolated from other deserts Baja and the Sea of Cortez are home to weird plants and unique creatures that evolved here coping with this most extreme of places. This is a rare opportunity to see the Boojum, for example, that looks more like a 10 meter high upside down parsnip than a true plant, the blue-footed boobies that each year perform their comical courtship or Lizards that eat flies so salty they would kill them, had they not enlarged nostrils with salt glands.

El comandante general de la Policía Estatal Preventiva
de Baja California Sur, Luis Alejandro Osorio Álvarez,
fue atacado a tiros alrededor de las 11 de la mañana
de este viernes 13 de mayo, por un comando armado cuando circulaba a bordo de una camioneta blanca Dodge Ram,
sobre la calle de Himno Nacional y carretera transpeninsular a la altura de la colonia El Progreso, en la ciudad capital.
Los sicarios –según testigos—viajaban a bordo de un vehículo
de color café Volkswagen Jetta, y quienes repentinamente cerraron el paso a la unidad oficial, y el cual no tenía emblemas de la corporación, y comenzaron a disparar en contra del único ocupante. El comandante general, recibió tres disparos en el cuerpo, por lo que al verse en desventaja, solicitó auxilio, y hasta donde llegaron patrullas de la Policía Estatal Preventiva y de la Policía Municipal de La Paz.
Los sicarios –acuerdo a testigos—salieron de la zona rápidamente
y avanzaron solo una cuadra, desatándose una fuerte balacera Durante el enfrentamiento, uno de los sicarios fue abatido por las fuerzas de seguridad, quedando muerto dentro del vehículo agresor, otro más fue detenido, y tres lograron huir a pie armados.
En la estación de gas Servi Gas –y donde presuntamente detonó el enfrentamiento entre criminales y fuerzas de seguridad
un civil fue asesinado en el fuego cruzado, y del que se desconocen mayores datos. Asimismo, el agente de la Policía Estatal Preventiva, Juan Carlos Cazanova Posada, y el oficial de la Policía Municipal de La Paz, José Carlos Espinoza Sánchez, resultaron heridos con cuatro y dos tiros en el cuerpo.

The western portion of Alta California was organized as the State of California, which was admitted as the 31st state on September 9, 1850. The California Gold Rush starting in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic change, with large-scale immigration from the east and abroad with an accompanying economic boom.

Baja California
Baja California (Spanish: [ˈbaxa kaliˈfornja] 
listen ), officially Free and Sovereign State of Baja California (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Baja California), is a state in Mexico. It is the northernmost and westernmost of the 31 states which, with the Federal District, comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. Before becoming a state in 1953, the area was known as the North Territory of Baja California (El Territorio Norte de Baja California). It has an area of 70,113 km2 (27,071 sq mi), or 3.57% of the land mass of Mexico and comprises the northern half of the Baja California Peninsula, north of the 28th parallel, plus oceanic Guadalupe Island. The mainland portion of the state is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by Sonora, the U.S. State of Arizona, and the Gulf of California (also known as the "Sea of Cortez"), and on the south by Baja California Sur. Its northern limit is the U.S. state of California.
The state has an estimated population of 3,165,776 (June 2009) much more than the sparsely populated Baja California Sur to the south, and similar to San Diego County, California on its north. Over 75% of the population lives in the capital city, Mexicali, in Ensenada, or in Tijuana. Other important cities include San Felipe, Rosarito and Tecate. The population of the state is composed of Mestizos, mostly immigrants from other parts of Mexico, and, as with most northern Mexican states, a large population of Mexicans of European ancestry, and also a large minority group of East Asian, Middle Eastern and indigenous descent. Additionally, there is a large immigrant population from the United States due to its proximity to San Diego and the cheaper cost of living compared to San Diego. There is also a significant population from Central America. Many immigrants moved to Baja California for a better quality of life and the number of higher paying jobs in comparison to the rest of Mexico and Latin America.

On either side of this narrow strip of land lie the rich waters of the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez. The peninsula, for the most part, is desert. Stark but beautiful, its raw landscape, naked rocks and giant cactus contrast with the crystal blue waters of the sea that surrounds it. Isolated from other deserts Baja and the Sea of Cortez are home to weird plants and unique creatures that evolved here coping with this most extreme of places. This is a rare opportunity to see the Boojum, for example, that looks more like a 10 meter high upside down parsnip than a true plant, the blue-footed boobies that each year perform their comical courtship or Lizards that eat flies so salty they would kill them, had they not enlarged nostrils with salt glands.

fue atacado a tiros alrededor de las 11 de la mañana
de este viernes 13 de mayo, por un comando armado cuando circulaba a bordo de una camioneta blanca Dodge Ram,
sobre la calle de Himno Nacional y carretera transpeninsular a la altura de la colonia El Progreso, en la ciudad capital.
Los sicarios –según testigos—viajaban a bordo de un vehículo
de color café Volkswagen Jetta, y quienes repentinamente cerraron el paso a la unidad oficial, y el cual no tenía emblemas de la corporación, y comenzaron a disparar en contra del único ocupante. El comandante general, recibió tres disparos en el cuerpo, por lo que al verse en desventaja, solicitó auxilio, y hasta donde llegaron patrullas de la Policía Estatal Preventiva y de la Policía Municipal de La Paz.
Los sicarios –acuerdo a testigos—salieron de la zona rápidamente
y avanzaron solo una cuadra, desatándose una fuerte balacera Durante el enfrentamiento, uno de los sicarios fue abatido por las fuerzas de seguridad, quedando muerto dentro del vehículo agresor, otro más fue detenido, y tres lograron huir a pie armados.
En la estación de gas Servi Gas –y donde presuntamente detonó el enfrentamiento entre criminales y fuerzas de seguridad
un civil fue asesinado en el fuego cruzado, y del que se desconocen mayores datos. Asimismo, el agente de la Policía Estatal Preventiva, Juan Carlos Cazanova Posada, y el oficial de la Policía Municipal de La Paz, José Carlos Espinoza Sánchez, resultaron heridos con cuatro y dos tiros en el cuerpo.

Hi guys, I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips. If you're a subscriber to this channel, you're either planning a trip to California, or you're a resident looking for new places to check out. Today I'm going to share some of my Top 10 travel tips for visiting California like a local.
Tip No. 1: Book California State Park campgrounds exactly 7 months before you want to visit on http://www.ReserveAmerica.com. If you're hoping to score a busy holiday like the Fourth of July, reserve a few dates in the end of June, then add a few days to your visit. Securing a campground in Yosemite is also tricky. You'll need to log into http://www.Recreation.gov a few minutes before 7 a.m. on the 15th of the month — five months in advance of your visit. Popular campgrounds in the valley sell out in seconds! For example, if you want to book a stay between June 15 and July 14, you need to book on February 15.
Tip No. 2: If you're going to Disneyland, take advantage of the FastPass service. Just insert your park ticket into the kiosk for a designated FastPass ride and you'll receive a ticket allowing you to return later and cut the line. I've found it's handy to have one person gather all of your tickets to get the Fast Pass while you wait in line for another attraction. If you have kids too small to ride an attraction, the Baby Switch Pass is another good bet. Just ask a cast member for the pass at the entrance. Make sure you ride the most popular attractions right when the park opens. Knott's has a similar service called FastLane, but you have to pay for it.
Tip No. 3: Avoid traveling in the summer if you can. Most of the amusement parks are packed to capacity, with long lines and hot waits in the sun. The fall and winter sees much fewer crowds, and the hotels are cheaper too.
Tip No. 4: Get on the Groupon list for each city you are visiting. You'll be able to get discounts on some really cool attractions and restaurants you may not have considered before. If you want great hotel rates, check out sites like Priceline or Hotel Tonight for last-minute lodging.
Tip No. 5: If you plan on visiting several theme parks or attractions, look into the Go Card or City Pass. They offer discounts on many of the most popular sights in LA, San Diego and San Francisco. If you're a Costco member, many warehouses sell discount tickets to theme parks, restaurants and sporting events.
Tip. No. 6: If there's an expensive restaurant you want to try, go during happy hour. Often you'll get to sample their best dishes and drinks at half the price.
Tip No. 7: Families should plan their San Diego vacations in October, when the city hosts its Kids Free month. Many of the area's most popular attractions, including San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park and Balboa Park are free for kids 12 and under.
Tip No. 8: If your favorite hotel or campground is booked, try again seven days in advance. This is when many people cancel their reservations to avoid penalties.
Tip No. 9: If you're heading to more than one of the seven California national parks, consider getting the annual pass for $80. Admission is free for all the parks in April during National Parks Week, and in November during Veterans Day weekend.
Tip No. 10: For the best fares, book your trip midweek for flights departing and arriving on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The cheapest rates can often be found online between 10 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 a.m. Thursdays around the 7th of each month. Additionally, the cheapest fares are found 7, 14 and 21 days before you leave.

If it’s a more serene environment you’re after, pass through the stately architecture and flowing lagoon of the Palace of Fine Arts.
Of course, San Francisco sightseeing isn’t complete without an excursion to Alcatraz, the island prison that once held some of the country’s most notorious criminals. Look into its empty cells and thick stone walls and wonder, could you escape “The Rock”?

Explore San Diego’s ties to the sea by touring the U.S.S. Midway, Navy Pier, and Maritime Museum. From there, it’s just a skip across the bay to Coronado, where you can lay out in the sun and soak up some rays in a quiet beach town.
Round out your day with a trip to “the jewel,” better known as La Jolla, and indulge in some of the best seafood and Mexican food you’ll find anywhere. Don’t forget to say “Hi” to the sea lions.

Just a few years later and a few miles to the north, the sleepy town of Laguna Beach attracted new types of worshippers, namely sun and nature lovers. In the late 19th century, it became a playground for the vacationing wealthy. These days, Laguna Beach is full of hills, winding streets, and creative personalities, and is the perfect place to shop for art.
If you’re looking for something a little off the beaten path, Crystal Cove is the place for you. Where else can you stay in antique cabins put together from old Hollywood movie sets? Not in Newport Beach, where sprawling, million-dollar homes line the harbor. Can you believe you could once buy lots here for $1 an acre?
Hit the waves in Huntington Beach, then head inland to explore the theme parks. The grandfather of all amusement parks is Disneyland®: it’s stood in Anaheim since 1965. Not far away is Knott’s Berry Farm®, once a collection of relocated ghost towns that evolved into a series of rides and amusements intended to celebrate the pioneer spirit.

The benefactors donated the land on which it sits on the condition that there would be at least 50 primates in the collection at all times, and it’s up to you to make sure that promise is kept.
Despite its various architectural marvels, theme parks, and numerous activities, Orange County is famed for something much simpler: its sunsets. Head over to the nearest beach and watch the sun disappear into the Pacific today.
