Double stars are stars that appear to be near each other in the sky, but if they’re gravitationally bound together we call them binary stars. Many stars are actually part of binary or multiple systems. If they are close enough together they can actually touch other, merging into one peanut-shaped star. In some close binaries matter can flow from one star to the other, changing the way it ages. If one star is a white dwarf, this can cause periodic explosions, and possibly even lead to blowing up the entire star.

Binary star
A binary star is a star system consisting of two stars orbiting around their common barycenter. Systems of two, three, four, or even more stars are called multiple star systems. These systems, especially when more distant, often appear to the unaided eye as a single point of light, and are then revealed as double (or more) by other means. Research over the last two centuries suggests that half or more of visible stars are part of multiple star systems.
The term double star is often used synonymously with binary star; however, double star can also mean optical double star. Optical doubles are so called because the two stars appear close together in the sky as seen from the Earth; they are almost on the same line of sight. Nevertheless, their "doubleness" depends only on this optical effect; the stars themselves are distant from one another and share no physical connection. A double star can be revealed as optical by means of differences in their parallax measurements, proper motions, or radial velocities. Most known double stars have not been studied sufficiently closely to determine whether they are optical doubles or they are doubles physically bound through gravitation into a multiple star system.

Double stars are stars that appear to be near each other in the sky, but if they’re gravitationally bound together we call them binary stars. Many stars are actually part of binary or multiple systems. If they are close enough together they can actually touch other, merging into one peanut-shaped star. In some close binaries matter can flow from one star to the other, changing the way it ages. If one star is a white dwarf, this can cause periodic explosions, and possibly even lead to blowing up the entire star.

The alien world was initially spotted by scientists working on the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment, the OGLE mission. Gravitational lensing, or microlensing, is the name for the bending of light by an object's gravity.
The microlensing event, a trio of distortions dubbed OGLE-2007-BLG-349, was first observed in 2007, but scientists couldn't confirm the sources of all the spacetime irregularities.
Only recently -- with newly collected data from the Hubble Space Telescope -- were astronomers able to determine that there are two stellar sources being manipulated by a sizable exoplanet.
"OGLE has detected over 17,000 microlensing events, but this is the first time such an event has been caused by a circumbinary planetary system," Andrzej Udalski, an astronomer at the University of Warsaw, explained in a news release.
The Hubble data also confirmed the world as the lowest-mass circumbinary planet system known by astronomers.
Additionally, the combination of Hubble and OGLE observations and analyses promises a new and improved method for locating exoplanets orbiting far from their stars. Most planets found by Kepler follow intimate and stable orbits.
The new findings were published this week in the Astrophysical Journal.
"This discovery, suggests we need to rethink our observing strategy when it comes to stellar binary lensing events," said Yiannis Tsapras, researcher with the Astronomical Calculation Institute at Heidelberg University. "This is an exciting new discovery for microlensing."

Ancient folklore from around the world rings with two resonating themes: History moves in cycles with alternating Golden and Dark Ages, and the slow movement of the stars across the sky, the Precession of the Equinox, is the cause and timekeeper of these cycles.
Walter Cruttenden says for years we have heard that these are only myths, there was no Golden Age and precession is just a wobbling of the Earth’s axis. Now Lost Star of Myth and Time shows evidence the Ancients were not just weaving fanciful tales - science is on the verge of an amazing discovery - our Sun has a companion star carrying us through a great cycle of stellar influences. If true, it means the Ancients were right and our views of space and time and the history of civilization will never be the same.
