Eldrick Tont "Tiger" Woods (born December 30, 1975) is an American professional golfer whose achievements to date rank him among the most successful golfers of all time. Formerly the World No. 1, he is the highest-paid professional athlete in the world, having earned an estimated US$90.5 million from winnings and endorsements in 2010.
Woods turned professional in 1996, and by April 1997 he had already won his first major, the 1997 Masters. He first reached the number one position in the world rankings in June 1997. Through the 2000s, Woods was the dominant force in golf, spending 264 weeks from August 1999 to September 2004 and 281 weeks from June 2005 to October 2010 as world number one. From December 2009 to early April 2010, Woods took leave from professional golf to focus on his marriage after he admitted infidelity. His multiple infidelities were revealed by several different women, through many worldwide media sources. This was followed by a loss of form, and his ranking gradually fell to a low of #58 in November 2011. He snapped a career-long winless streak of 107 weeks when he captured the Chevron World Challenge in December 2011. As of April 8, 2012, he is ranked #8.

Vegas, Langley lead, Tiger Woods shot 69 at 2015 Greenbrier Classic Rd.2
Jhonattan Vegas hasn't had much success since winning his second PGA Tour event as a rookie in 2011. The Greenbrier Classic could give him that needed boost.
Vegas shot a 5-under-par 65 to tie Scott Langley for the lead after the second round Friday. They were at 9-under 131 on the Old White TPC course in West Virginia.

Tiger Woods round 1-2 highlights at 2015 The Greenbrier Classic
Tiger Woods' 69 keeps him within striking range at Greenbrier
Tiger Woods didn't have his best in Friday's second round of The Greenbrier Classic on the Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, W.V.
However, that meant shooting 69 instead of 79.
In another sign of progress this week, Woods wasn't completely derailed by frustrating play that was a staple in all but one of his previous six starts this year. Under cloudy skies and in intermittent rain, Woods didn't battle his swing most of the day, but he did struggle with distance control and accuracy into the greens with his approach shots.
While his tempo, rhythm and body language have looked better this week than at any time this year, Woods needed 32 putts and had to overcome one stubbed chip shot, one drive that landed out of bounds but luckily bounced back into play and another drive into a water hazard on his back nine.
Still, Woods managed to finish with four birdies and three bogeys and sits in the middle of the pack at 5 under through 36 holes. He is four shots behind leaders Scott Langley (69) and Jhonattan Vegas, who hit all 18 greens in regulation in a round of 65.
Woods looked like the Woods of old on the par-5 12th, when he smoothly ripped a 325-yard drive and then a 227-yard 5-iron to 12 feet. From there, he lipped out his eagle putt and settled for birdie. And on 18, he rifled an 8-iron to draw to 8 feet for a closing birdie. He also had two bounce-back birdies.
But Woods also looked like the Woods of old (circa 2015) when he stubbed a chip on the 11th and hit drives on 13 and 17 that were 30 and 50 yards off line.
Perhaps it was those memories that led to Woods declining to talk with the media after the round, a rare occurrence during his long career.
Words or no words, Woods has to be happy that he now has more rounds in the 60s (4) than the 80s (3) this year. And his 66-69 marks just the second time he's signed for back-to-back round in the 60s; in the Masters he shot 69-68 in his second and third rounds.
Woods, who said Thursday that he's close to getting his act together inside the ropes as the swing changes take root, hit 14 greens in regulation, a day after he hit 15.
But while he hit 10 of 14 fairways in his opening 18, he hit just 7 of 14 on Friday. His 32 putts were five more than he needed on Thursday, but this was more indicative of his inability to hit the ball close to the hole with his approaches, be they from the rough or the fairway.
He will watch a July 4 fireworks show at The Greenbrier, but he'll need to produce his own pyrotechnics before that if he's to get within striking range in Sunday's final round. With the course softened by overnight rains and plenty more drops on Friday, it is ripe for scoring. For everyone.
Woods has more than two dozen players between himself and the leaders. A 66-66 weekend might not be good enough. But at least Woods, who last won in 2013 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, the last of five wins that season that earned him player of the year honors for a record 11th time, has a chance.
And if his play through two rounds holds, and he continues to get closer and closer to putting everything together after his latest swing change, those 80s will be a thing of the recent past. He once again could be a force – and not a farce – going forward.

Tiger Woods full highlights 4 rounds at 2015 The Greenbrier Classic
2015 Greenbrier Classic results: Tiger Woods finds some game in West Virginia
For the second straight week on the PGA Tour, we needed extra holes to determine a champion. Danny Lee beat David Hearn on the second playoff hole to take the Greenbrier Classic. Kevin Kisner and Robert Streb made it to extra holes, but bowed out on the first after Lee and Hearn posted birdies.
Lee is yet another mid-20s winner on the PGA Tour. He's a former U.S. Amateur champ -- the youngest ever to win it, edging the 18-year-old Tiger Woods. So the pedigree is there and now that he's got a win on the most competitive tour in the world, more success is likely on the way. Here's what else we learned on Sunday in West Virginia.
Tiger Woods is back!
Well, kind of. Aside from the scores, which were obviously a major improvement over the car fires at Memorial and the U.S. Open, Tiger put on a stripe show from tee-to-green throughout the week. He keeps talking about these "baseline shifts" and getting his "patterns" and "feels" all set. He insisted he was talking about taking one step back to move forward. There were going to be short-term struggles to find long-term stability with this motion under swing "consultant" Chris Como.
The scores had to be better. This is one of the easiest setups on tour. But more important than the birdies and the rounds in the 60s was the consistency off the tee. Woods has looked completely lost in recent events, yanking tee balls deep down the left side and blocking drives off the course to the right. In Sunday's round, his first bogey-free round since the summer of 2013, Tiger hit 12-of-14 fairways. That leads to 15-of-18 greens in regulation, a mark he hit multiple times this week in West Virginia.
St. Andrews is going to be an entirely different test than a Greenbrier resort course. Low scores will be out there, but it's not going to be soft and receptive. Some borderline drives aren't going to stop in the fairway, but rather run off into the junk. Tiger is on the edge right now. Even when it's going well, there's going to be a bad swing or two from the tee that can wreck a round. We saw him pump one out of bounds on Saturday for a double bogey, and he caught a fortunate bounce off an out-of-bounds road back in-bounds on Friday. Those swings are always lurking, and he's still fighting an uphill battle to achieve the kind of game that can contend at majors. But this week was nice boost after the carnage of his two prior starts.
There had been fallow stretches before when he was making swing changes, but never the embarrassing lows of 2015. But this week was nice boost after the carnage of his two prior starts. It could not get much worse -- eventually he was going to put a respectable week together, but maybe something is starting to happen with this swing.

2015 Greenbrier Classic full highlights - Danny Lee wins, Tiger Woods is back
2015 Greenbrier Classic full highlights - Danny Lee wins, Tiger Woods is back
Nearly eight years after becoming a U.S. Amateur champion at age 18, Lee earned his first PGA Tour win at The Greenbrier Classic in a four-man playoff.
Lee won in his 98th tour event when he parred the second hole of Sunday's sudden-death playoff, eliminating David Hearn after Kevin Kisner and Robert Streb faltered on the first playoff hole.
Lee, Hearn, Kisner and Streb were tied at 13-under par after four rounds on the Old White TPC course. And Lee admits he suddenly became nervous.
For good measure, Lee said his caddie, Kurt Kowaluk, put the piece of paper indicating his playoff starting position into a mock wishing well on the par-3 18th tee.
By then, Lee had his focus back.
The South Korean-born New Zealander earned $1.2 million and became the ninth first-time winner on the tour this season. He jumped from 57th to 15th in this week's FedEx Cup points race.
Lee, Hearn, James Hahn and Greg Owen earned spots in next week's British Open at St. Andrews. There also were four Open spots handed out a week ago at the Travelers Championship and one more is available this week at the John Deere Classic.
Lee was competing in his 27th event this season, including his eighth in nine weeks. He is trying to qualify for the international team for the Presidents Cup in October in South Korea. He was 16th in the standings after The Greenbrier Classic.
"I never get tired of playing golf," Lee said. "I mean, it's my job, and I just love doing it, and I'm just happy to be out here every week."
Kisner shot a 6-under 64 to get to the clubhouse first at 13 under. Hearn (67) and Lee (67) birdied the par-5 17th to join the playoff.
Streb shot 65 by making five birdie putts on the back nine with a 56-degree wedge after breaking his putter on the ninth hole when he tossed it at his bag next to the green.
He three-putted No. 17 for bogey, but got in the playoff with a 6-foot birdie at No. 18.
Streb was allowed a replacement putter for the playoff, but he never got to use it after missing the green.
Lee and Hearn made birdie putts on the first playoff hole, also eliminating Kisner, who lost in a playoff for the third time this season.
On the second playoff hole, Hearn drove behind a tree on No. 17 and made bogey.
Lee also missed the fairway, but reached the green in three shots and two-putted from across the green for par.
"All I can say is wow," Lee said. "I finally did it."
It marked the third playoff in the tournament's six-year history and was the 14th on the PGA Tour this season.
Russell Henley shot 63 and finished fifth at 12 under.
Tiger Woods started the day seven shots behind the leaders, shot a bogey-free 67 and said he made some "nice strides" heading into the British Open.
"Best I've hit it in a long, long, long time," Woods said. "I had full control over all clubs. This could have been one of those special rounds."
Woods broke a streak of 55 consecutive rounds with at least one bogey. It was his first time under par in a final round since the 2013 Tour Championship.

Twenty-three golfers were within three shots of the lead, including seven at 8 under.
Vegas doesn't have a top 10 finish this season, but he's looking to change that. He made five birdies during a bogey-free round Friday, including two of his final three holes.
"I feel like I'm playing great, I just haven't been able to put it all together," the Venezuelan said. "But I'm staying patient and working really hard to make it happen, and it's coming together."
Langley didn't have the same birdie explosion as he enjoyed in the first round, when he shot 62 to take the lead.
Starting his round on the back nine, Langley made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 6 and 7 and shot 69.
"Following up a round of 62 is never super easy," Langley said. "I left a lot of putts within 6 inches of the hole, just right in the heart. I need to be a little more assertive (Saturday) on the greens."
Langley and Vegas had a chance to make noise last week at the Travelers Championship. Langley was four strokes behind eventual winner Bubba Watson entering weekend play, while Vegas was six shots back.
Both faded in the final two rounds.
The top four finishers at The Greenbrier not previously eligible for the British Open will earn spots next week at St. Andrews, provided they are among the top 12 and ties.
"That's one of the goals for the week," Vegas said. "So we're going to try to go get it."
Tiger Woods made little progress after a solid first round but avoided missing consecutive cuts for the first time as a pro. Woods shot 69 Friday and was at 5 under, four shots back.
Woods had more trouble reaching fairways on Friday. He found the water to the right on the par-5 17th for the second straight day, hit his golf bag with his driver in disgust, then nearly holed his 97-yard fourth shot and made par.
He salvaged his under-par round with a short birdie putt on the par-3 18th. He declined interviews afterward.
Langley is looking to become the third person to become a first-time PGA Tour winner by winning The Greenbrier in the tournament's six-year history.
So, too, is David Hearn, who was among those in the group at 8 under. The Canadian is still looking for his first PGA Tour win in his 164th event. His best finish was second at the 2013 John Deere Classic.
"This would be a great place for me to win one, but I've got 36 holes of golf (left)," Hearn said. "I'm playing great right now and I look forward to the weekend."
Hearn birdied six of his first eight holes and shot 64. He and Jonathan Byrd were tied for the lead on the back nine before late bogeys slowed their momentum. Byrd shot 69 and also was at 8 under.
Sixty-seven golfers made the cut at 2 under. Michael Putnam had an eagle and four birdies on the back nine to make the cut on the number.
Steve Stricker missed only his third cut since 2010.
Heavy rains stopped play for 18 minutes in the morning. Occasional thunderstorms are forecast through the weekend.

Perhaps Tiger Woods ought to take advantage of the world-renowned mineral spa at The Greenbrier Resort as his bid to rebound from a season of "worst evers" continues at this week’s Greenbrier Classic.
Certainly, "taking the waters" in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., couldn’t hurt the struggling superstar, who may want to try something new to revive his sputtering career after he posted the highest 36-hole score of his career at Chambers Bay and missed his first U.S. Open cut since 2006.
Despite a spectacular swoon that has dropped him from No. 1 in the world last May to his current 220th ranking -- thanks largely to a second-round 82 and missed cut in Phoenix, a first-round withdrawal at Torrey Pines and an opening-round 10-over 80 in Washington state -- Woods remains the marquee attraction for this and every week’s PGA Tour stop.
"We’ve got to have Tiger," Jim Justice, owner of the Greenbrier, said after Woods committed to playing at his tournament for the first time since 2012, according to Roanoke.com. "Tiger is one of the biggest stars in all of sport, and he brings significant attention to any event he enters."
With newly crowned 2015 Travelers champ Bubba Watson, 2010 British Open champ and 2015 U.S. Open runner-up Louis Oosthuizen, and fan favorite John Daly just some of the high-profile names also making starts at the Greenbrier, any other player who shot 80-76 and missed his national championship cut by a whopping 11 shots would be filler at a golf event rather than the headliner. But until that guy loses his spot as the main man on the tour website’s "Players" page and stops putting fannies in the seats at home and on the course, every tournament director echoes Justice’s sentiments.
By now, the most casual of golf fans know the drill. Woods has gone from being the best player in the world who went a tour-record 142 starts between 1997 and 2005 without missing a cut, to his lowest standing on the tour since his rookie year. Once on a trajectory to pass Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major wins, Woods has many wondering if he’ll ever add No. 80 to his career total of 79 PGA Tour wins.
Until this season, Woods had only one career score of 80 or higher, and that came at the 2002 British Open when he carded an 81 in what observers described as the most horrific weather ever to hit an Open Championship. After shooting a then-career-worst 82 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to miss the cut, a currently worst-ever 85 in the third round of the Memorial to finish last among those who made the cut, and the opening 80 at Chambers Bay, Woods now has four scores higher than 79 on his resume.
Unfortunately for the scuffling former ace, even tracks he used to dominate (eight wins each at Torrey and Bay Hill, five at Muirfield Village) are unmasking each and every error in the flawed game of the 14-time major champion. It is stunning to realize, and shockingly sad to watch, the golfer who as recently as 2013 won five tour events fail to crack the top-15 in the last two seasons.
How to fix what ails Woods is the topic du jour whether Tiger’s playing on a particular week or not, and if there is a golf pundit in the world who has not weighed in with a cure-all, just wait. Opinions on the mysterious ills that plague Woods range from the seemingly simple (take more time off/play more golf, ditch fourth swing coach Chris Como/go back to Butch Harmon) to the more complex (hire a mental coach to rekindle his confidence) to the extreme (retire).
For now, Woods chooses to get more reps in competition and the Greenbrier will serve as his tuneup for the British Open two weeks later. He’ll take a week off after his start at St. Andrews, where he won in 2000 and 2005, then play his foundation’s Quicken Loans National event.
Though the PGA Championship is not on Woods’ schedule, it is difficult to imagine he would pass up another opportunity to nab that elusive 15th major -- or 16th, if the world turns upside down and he prevails at The Old Course. Only the top 60 in the world qualify for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational the week before the PGA, and it’s highly unlikely he would opt to play in the opposite tour event, the Barracuda Championship in Reno, while the big boys are teeing it up at Firestone.
Also improbable -- barring a complete turn-around in his overall game -- is Woods making it to the FedEx Cup playoffs. The top 125 golfers are eligible for the first leg, The Barclays.
The Aug. 27 start at Plainfield Country Club is only two months away and Woods has to start somewhere. The Greenbrier Classic, where he scored 71-69 and missed the cut by a stroke in his only previous appearance, is his next best shot at rebounding from a slump that, just two years ago, nobody saw coming.

2015 Greenbrier Classic full highlights - Danny Lee wins, Tiger Woods is back
Nearly eight years after becoming a U.S.
