Devonté "Dev" Hynes (born David Joseph Michael Hynes, 23 December 1985), also known as Blood Orange and formerly Lightspeed Champion, is a British singer, songwriter, composer, producer and author. From 2004 to 2006, Hynes was a member of the band Test Icicles, playing guitar, synth, and occasionally performing vocals. They released only one full-length album in 2005. Hynes went on to release two solo studio albums as Lightspeed Champion and subsequently two more as Blood Orange, between 2008 and 2013.
He has written for artists such as Solange Knowles, Sky Ferreira, FKA twigs, Florence and the Machine, Carly Rae Jepsen, Diana Vickers, The Chemical Brothers and Kylie Minogue. Hynes was voted the 49th 'coolest person in rock' in NME's 2007 Cool List, jumping to position 20 in the following year's list.
Dev Hynes was born and raised in Ilford, East London. He was educated at the Chadwell Heath Foundation School, now known as Chadwell Heath Academy. From their formation in 2004 until their break-up in 2006, Hynes was a member of the dance-punk band Test Icicles, playing guitar, synth, and occasionally performing vocals. They released only one full-length album, For Screening Purposes Only, in 2005. Hynes relocated to New York in 2007 where he now resides.
The blood orange is a variety of orange (Citrus × sinensis) with crimson, almost-blood-colored flesh.
The fruit is roughly the same size as an average orange, but sometimes can be smaller or larger; its skin is usually pitted, but can be smooth. The distinctive dark flesh color is due to the presence of anthocyanins, a family of antioxidant pigments common to many flowers and fruit, but uncommon in citrus fruits.Chrysanthemin (cyanidin 3-O glucoside) is the main compound found in red oranges. The flesh develops its characteristic maroon color when the fruit develops with low temperatures during the night. Sometimes there is dark coloring on the exterior of the rind as well, depending on the variety of blood orange. The skin can be tougher and harder to peel than that of other oranges. Blood oranges have a unique flavor profile compared to other oranges, being distinctly raspberry-like in addition to the usual citrus notes.
The blood orange is a natural mutation of the orange, which is itself a hybrid, probably between the pomelo and the tangerine, Within Europe, the Arancia Rossa di Sicilia (Red Orange of Sicily) has Protected Geographical Status.
Orange usually refers to:
Orange may also refer to:
Blood is a bodily fluid in humans and other animals that delivers necessary substances such as nutrients and oxygen to the cells and transports metabolic waste products away from those same cells. When it reaches the lungs, gas exchange occurs when carbon dioxide is diffused out of the blood into the pulmonary alveoli and oxygen is diffused into the blood. This oxygenated blood is pumped to the left hand side of the heart in the pulmonary vein and enters the left atrium. From here it passes through the mitral valve, through the ventricle and taken all around the body by the aorta. Blood contains antibodies, nutrients, oxygen and much more to help the body work.
In vertebrates, it is composed of blood cells suspended in blood plasma. Plasma, which constitutes 55% of blood fluid, is mostly water (92% by volume), and contains dissipated proteins, glucose, mineral ions, hormones, carbon dioxide (plasma being the main medium for excretory product transportation), and blood cells themselves. Albumin is the main protein in plasma, and it functions to regulate the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. The blood cells are mainly red blood cells (also called RBCs or erythrocytes), white blood cells (also called WBCs or leukocytes) and platelets. The most abundant cells in vertebrate blood are red blood cells. These contain hemoglobin, an iron-containing protein, which facilitates oxygen transport by reversibly binding to this respiratory gas and greatly increasing its solubility in blood. In contrast, carbon dioxide is almost entirely transported extracellularly dissolved in plasma as bicarbonate ion.
Palo Alto (/ˌpæloʊˈæltoʊ/; Spanish: [ˈpalo ˈalto]; from palo, literally "stick", colloquially "tree", and alto "tall"; meaning: "tall tree") is a charter city located in the northwest corner of Santa Clara County, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area of the United States. 'When You Gonna Get A Real Job': Philip Glass And Devonté Hynes Compare Notes by THOMAS HUIZENGA At first glance, Devonté Hynes and Philip Glass might appear like musical opposites. Hynes, the 31-year-old British producer and songwriter who performs under the name Blood Orange, makes hit records with Solange and Carly Rae Jepson. Glass, the 80-year-old Baltimore-born New Yorker who writes operas and film scores, is one of classical music's legendary artists. But walk into Hynes' third floor loft in New York's Chinatown and you'll find a photo of Glass on his piano. Hynes, it turns out, is a fan. He discovered Glass' music by chance as a London teenager, when he bought the 1982 album Glassworks on the strength of its crystalline cover image alone. What he heard after he brought it home t...

Dev Hynes | Blood Orange is a musician with the golden touch. In this breathtaking talk and performance he brings to life two of the neurological conditions that make him such a gifted artist. The first, Synesthesia a condition where pathways cross to experience sounds as color - the second, more sinister - Anxiety, which is a dark and debilitating force in his life. The result: an unique musical composition and mesmerizing visual display that offer a unique glimpse into the mind of a true artist. Huge thanks to him for allowing us to share this piece.

"Time Will Tell" is the closing track from the album CUPID DELUXE. The song itself was recorded live in a one take that lasted about 15 minutes I ad-libbed the vocals recalling lyrics from songs of mine and a song by Adam Bainbridge (which he was unaware i was going to do). Adam was on the drum machine, Blue May on guitar, Sam Beste on piano, & Tawiah on backing vocals. I then took some of my vocals from towards the end and overlaid it as a backing vocal." Created in the early 1960s by Don Buchla, the Buchla synthesizer revolutionized electronic music through its innovative design and endlessly variable modular system, encouraging new methods of creation and performance. Few artists pursued the emotional and sonic possibilities as comprehensively as Suzanne Ciani, an early disciple of Buchla and an undeniable master of the machine who first got her start composing music for advertisements before redefining herself as a Grammy-nominated new age artist. In Ciani’s hands, what can often look like an impenetrable tangle of wires becomes an instrument of beauty, capable of producing truly far-out sounds. In this impressive display of expert knowledge, filmed at the 2016 Red Bull Music Academy in Montréal, the synthesizer pioneer takes us inside ...

Songs of Protest and Anti-Protest (released in the United Kingdom as Too Many Mornings) is the debut album by American folk musician Bobby Jameson, credited under the name Chris Lucey. It was released on Surrey Records in 1965. Recorded on a limited budget, the album did not receive much attention at the time of its release; however, over time it has become treasured for its resemblance to the arrangements found in Love's album Forever Changes. Songs of Protest and Anti-Protest has since been reissued and made more accessible to collectors. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songs_of_Protest_and_Anti-Protest_(album) **All tracks are sourced from what seems to be the actual Bobby Jameson's Youtube accounts** https://www.youtube.com/user/jamesonbobby4 https://www.youtube.com/user/musicofmine2...

This talk was held on Oct 29th as part of RBMA Paris 2015. Pop singer, songwriter and producer Kindness, aka Adam Bainbridge, has a deep understanding of how music ties into our identities and ways of seeing the world. His white British father and Indian mother fed him disco, Motown and soul in his childhood in the middling town of Peterborough, before he broke away to London, Philadelphia, Berlin and Paris in quick succession. Liberation of soul and mind is essential to the work of Devonté Hynes. Born in Houston, Texas, and raised in East London, Hynes has called NYC home for close to a decade. A musical shape-shifter, his sound has evolved from dance-punk to eccentric folk to the ‘80s informed, socially-minded R&B; he crafts today as Blood Orange. The 2016 album, Freetown Sound, his third under the Blood Orange moniker, touches on themes including musical identity, sexuality, politics and what it means to be a black man living in America today. A proficient songwriter and collaborator, he has worked with artists ranging from Solange Knowles and Nelly Furtado to Connan Mockasin, David Byrne, Grace Jones and Kindness. Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange has been responsible for some of your favorite songs. He's equal parts behind the scenes and in the spot light when it comes to the music he produces. From crafting indie pop hits that get people dancing at festivals and clubs around the world, to producing hits for the likes of Solange, Florence and The Machine and Sky Ferreira - he finds time to do it all. We met with him to explore how Dev finds inspiration in the oddest of places.

Dev Hynes may moonlight as a songwriter for artists like Florence and the Machine and The Chemical Brothers, but we venture into his solo work as Blood Orange when he drops by our studios. It's a soulful melange of pop experimentalism. Hear it on Morning Becomes Eclectic. Watch / Listen to the full session here: http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/mb/mb120611blood_orange

Created in the early 1960s by Don Buchla, the Buchla synthesizer revolutionized electronic music through its innovative design and endlessly variable modular system, encouraging new methods of creation and performance.

His travels have informed his acclaimed work: two solo albums as Kindness, a long-time collaborative relationship with Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange, as well as Kelela, Robyn and Philippe Zdar of Cassius, who co-produced and mixed the first of his two LPs, World, You Need A Change of Mind.
