"Barack Obama has ordered up to 50 special operations troops to Syria, US officials announced on Friday, in an apparent breach of a promise not to put US “boots on the ground” to fight Islamic State militants in the country...
But the White House insisted that its overall strategy to combat Isis remained the same and said the special forces troops would be helping coordinate local ground forces in the north of the country and other non-specified “coalition efforts” to counter Isis rather than engaging in major ground operations.
“The decision the president has made is to further intensify our support for our forces who have made progress against Isis,” the White House spokesman, Josh Earnest, said at a news conference.”*

A chilly welcome for American commandos who have been deployed to Syria to allegedly help Turkish forces operating in the war-torn country.
Footage from the border town of Ra'i showed Free Syrian Army militants driving out a group of US troops, calling them crusaders, infidels and dogs. The militants, who have been long sponsored by Washington, gathered at the town’s main square shouting anti-US slogans. They voiced anger at Washington’s support for Kurdish fighters battling Daesh. US and militant sources confirmed the confrontation, which ended with US troops making their way back toward the Turkish border. The Pentagon says it has sent dozens of its special operations forces to cooperate with the Turkish military, which crossed the Syrian border last month under the pretext of fighting Daesh and Kurdish militia. The United States Armed Forces are the federal military forces of the United States. They consist of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The President of the United States is the military's overall head, and helps form military policy with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), a federal executive department, acting as the principal organ by which military policy is carried out.

Troop
A troop is a military sub-subunit, originally a small formation of cavalry, subordinate to a squadron. In many armies a troop is the equivalent element to the infantry section or platoon. Exceptions are the Royal Horse Artillery and the US Cavalry, where troops are subunits that compare to an infantry company or artillery battery.
A cavalry soldier of private rank is called a trooper in many Commonwealth armies (abbreviated "Tpr", not to be confused with "trouper").
A related sense of the term "troops" refers to members of the military collectively, as in "the troops"; see Troop (disambiguation).
In some countries, like Italy, the company-level cavalry unit is called "Squadron".

"Barack Obama has ordered up to 50 special operations troops to Syria, US officials announced on Friday, in an apparent breach of a promise not to put US “boots on the ground” to fight Islamic State militants in the country...
But the White House insisted that its overall strategy to combat Isis remained the same and said the special forces troops would be helping coordinate local ground forces in the north of the country and other non-specified “coalition efforts” to counter Isis rather than engaging in major ground operations.
“The decision the president has made is to further intensify our support for our forces who have made progress against Isis,” the White House spokesman, Josh Earnest, said at a news conference.”*

American and Moldovan troops have begun the joint exercise Dragon Pioneer 2016 on May 3 in the neighboring Republic of Moldova, after protesters tried to block the US troops from entering the country. The join drills are scheduled to continue until May 20 and are the first for the Republic of Moldova. After crossing Romania, the US military vehicles entered Moldova on Tuesday morning, May 3, through the Sculeni checkpoint. Iran escalates high seas harassment of US Navy
(CNN)Seven Iranian fast-attack boats were involved in an unsafe encounter with the USS Firebolt over the weekend, with one Iranian craft coming to a stop in front of the American ship, a US defense official told CNN Tuesday.
The provocative maneuver, which on Sunday brought the Iranian boat within 100 yards of the Firebolt, a coastal patrol boat that carries a crew of about 30, was assessed by the US to be unsafe and unprofessional and could have led to a collision, the official said.
There have been 31 unsafe America encounters with Iranian vessels in the Persian Gulf so far this year, up from 23 in all of 2015, the official said.

Less than two weeks ago, US naval ships in the northern Persian Gulf were harassed by an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps vessel, which came within 200 yards of the US ships. This success is down to the genial presence of Burgess 'The Penguin' Meredith as our guide, who always knows when to offer a supporting look or comment to camera. Whilst the British may come across as a little staid, the film explains that after four years of war, "we are not quiet, just weary".

The UN Arms Trade Treaty that has been identified by observers as a flagrant threat to the second amendment and which Barack Obama is determined to sign has its roots in a 1961 State Department memorandum which explains how the United Nations will oversee "complete disarmament" of the American people under the ruse of preventing war. The UN Arms Treaty has caused so much controversy because it outlines a plan to target "all types of conventional weapons, notably including small arms and light weapons," according to Forbes' Larry Bell.
Former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton also warns that the agreement "is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nation states, but there is no doubt that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control."
A letter sent last month by 130 Republican House members to President Obama argued that the treaty should be rejected because it infringes on the "fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms". The letter adds that "...the U.N.'s actions to date indicate that the ATT is likely to pose significant threats to our national security, foreign policy, and economic interests as well as our constitutional rights."
Using the rhetoric of the threat post by terrorists, insurgents and "international crime syndicates," the UN is busy trying to imply that all weapons are somehow involved in illegal activity on a global scale and should therefore be controlled and regulated by a global authority.
This is precisely the same language used in a 1961 U.S. State Department briefing which outlined a long term agenda to carry out a "Program for General and Complete Disarmament in a Peaceful World."
Invoking the threat of nuclear warfare, the document spells out a plan to create a "United Nations Peace Force" that would "enforce the peace as the disarmament process proceeds."
While the document initially focuses on scrapping nuclear weapons, it later makes it clear that the only groups allowed to own weapons of any kind would be governing authorities, "for the purpose of maintaining internal order," and the UN "peacekeeping" force itself, which would require "agreed manpower."
"The manufacture of armaments would be prohibited except for those of agreed types and quantities to be used by the U.N. Peace Force and those required to maintain internal order. All other armaments would be destroyed or converted to peaceful purposes," states the document. While the memorandum outlines a broader mandate to destroy national sovereignty, eviscerate national armies and institute the UN as the planet's supreme authority with a world army, the document serves as a stark reminder that the plan for the United Nations to oversee the abolition of the second amendment has been in the works for decades.
As Bell points out in his Forbes article, the threat of the Obama administration relying on a UN treaty to do what successive administrations have tried but failed to accomplish -- taking a huge bite out of the second amendment -- is by no means far fetched.
After all, a plethora of UN treaties and international agreements have already stripped the United States of its sovereignty and its power to decide its own laws. The power to authorize U.S. involvement in wars and conflicts has now been almost completely stripped from Congress and handed to the United Nations.

The U.S. President has made the case, again and again, that sending ground troops to Syria would be a mistake.
Instead, Barack Obama has favoured a combination of air strikes and military advisers on the ground, to help U.S. allies in Syria repel ISIL.
Now the deployment of so-called non-combat troops is about to get larger - an additional 250 special forces bringing the total to 300.
They will not be leading the fight on the ground, but will be essential in providing the training and assisting local force.

The US Marines have been fighting on the frontline since the invasion of Iraq. For them, unlike for the many armchair experts, the tragedies of this war are a reality which they must deal with daily.
Steve Thompson was seriously wounded by a roadside bomb; he went through a gruelling series of Frankenstein operations and is now back in Iraq. Scared of ground operations, he is now serving as a helicopter pilot, were bringing tribes and religions together. "Once they start accepting each other a little more, I think we can hand over."
Thompson enjoys the adrenaline of combat and is committed to excellence, but some are less driven. Lance Corporal Patrick Payne reminds us that a lot of your standard rules dont always apply. He suggests that the punishment for the Abu Ghraib abusers was extreme -
they were bored,
they entertained themselves. It is this dirtier side of war which has led others to get out.
Pete Owen, a retired Lieutenant Colonel: "When you're looking into the eyes of a little girl whose feet got blown off, that is just an overwhelming experience.
I just kind of lost my zest for that type of life." But even he agrees with Sergeant Joe Gonzalezs summing up,: "I have friends who have passed away in that war and I kind of want to make a difference when we leave."

“As commander in chief, I’m pretty tired of some folks trash-talking America’s military and troops,” Obama said Monday in Atlanta. “Our military is somewhat smaller after two major ground wars [have] come to a close. That’s natural. And we’re gonna keep doing everything we need to do improve readiness and modernize our forces.”
Trump has called US forces a “disaster” and once mocked Arizona Sen. John McCain by claiming the 2008 GOP presidential nominee isn’t a war hero because he was captured as a prisoner of war.
“But let’s get some facts straight,” Obama continued, “We have the most capable fighting force in history, and we’re gonna keep it that way. And no ally or adversary should ever doubt our strength and our resolve.”

American and Moldovan troops have begun the joint exercise Dragon Pioneer 2016 on May 3 in the neighboring Republic of Moldova, after protesters tried to block the US troops from entering the country.
The join drills are scheduled to continue until May 20 and are the first for the Republic of Moldova.
After crossing Romania, the US military vehicles entered Moldova on Tuesday morning, May 3, through the Sculeni checkpoint. Protesters from the Socialist Party of Moldova, a pro-Russian opposition party led by Igor Dodon, tried to block their route, as they’ve previously announced they would do, reports local Hotnews.ro. They were carrying placards with slogans against NATO.
But a small group of people also came to welcome the US troops.
During the Dragon Pioneer 2016 exercise, the US and Moldovan troops will conduct joint training as the activities aim to increase cooperation between the two armies, reports Radiochisinau.md.
Some 58 technical units of the US Army will attend the exercises, including combat vehicles, Humvees, and transport vehicles. The Moldovan Army will participate with 40 vehicles.
Moldova joined NATO’s Partnership for Peace program in 1994.
