The Herald Sun launches a new education resource for 2017: Kids News

The Herald Sun is excited to announce that it will launch a new education product for 2017 called Kids News.

Kids News has been months in the planning and on trial in 10 Victorian schools in recent months where the concept received huge support.

Kids News is a website that gives kids the news of the day in a language they can understand while also providing teachers with a timesaving and engaging classroom resource.

More than 1200 students and 60 teachers have been involved in the trial at schools in metropolitan and regional Victoria and their feedback has helped shape the product that will officially launch on the first day of term next year.

Each day Kids News will publish two articles written for a young audience sourced from the Herald Sun’s extensive news network.

Articles are published across three categories: News, Sport and Light and Bright and feature text, pictures, audio and video where available.

Attached to each story are activities linked to the curriculum that have been written for teachers by teachers so that each day teachers can rely on a classroom resource that is fresh, interesting and ready to use.

Kids News editor Karina Grift said the product caused quite a stir among principals at the Victorian Principal Association’s annual conference recently. Principals who attended the event were among the first to hear about the new product.

“Principals were really excited to see something new being offered in the education market,” Ms Grift said.

“We were flooded with inquiries about it because principals could see that Kids News is a great way to get kids interested in real world events while in a safe online environment where teachers don’t have to worry about censoring the content.”

Kids News is a subscription product for 2017, priced at $2 per student per year.

The Herald Sun is holding a range of forums at its headquarters in Southbank for principals and teachers who want to find out more and how they can get involved in a free trial period this year for their school.
