Astro Boy is a 2009 Hong Kong/American computer-animated action film loosely based on the manga series of the same name by the Japanese writer and illustrator Osamu Tezuka. It was produced by Imagi Animation Studios, and directed by David Bowers.Freddie Highmore provides the voice of Astro Boy in the film. The film also features the voices of Kristen Bell, Nathan Lane, Eugene Levy, Matt Lucas, Bill Nighy, Donald Sutherland, Charlize Theron and Nicolas Cage. Plot
Toby Tenma is a teenager who lives in the futuristic city-state Metro City, which floats above the polluted "Surface". Toby's father, Dr. Tenma, is a famous roboticist and head of the Ministry of Science, but has a distant relationship with his son. Dr. Tenma meets the city's obstructive leader President Stone to demonstrate a new defensive robot called the Peacekeeper. To power it, Tenma's friend Dr. Elefun unveils the Blue and Red Core, two energy spheres which have opposing positive and negative energy. Stone has the destructive Red Core placed into the Peacekeeper, causing it to go berserk, leading to Toby being disintegrated after sneaking into the room.

Tetsuwan Atom - Astro Boy - 2003 Japanese Intro Theme 16:9
Japanese intro to the 2003 animated TV series Tetsuwan Atom. Originally a widescreen production, Astro Boy's 2003 States release was cropped to fit a 4:3 style image, not only that, but the run time for episodes where cut from the 25 minute original length to just shy of 20, cutting a lot of the story from each episode. An episode was cut entirely from the English version, as it featured characters from the 19th Century play Peter Pan, and certain party's - likely Sony - didn't want hassle from Disney. The episode was replaced by a clip show, which, rather awkwardly, added elements from the actual episode it was replacing. An episode was cut entirely from the English version, as it featured characters from the 19th Century play Peter Pan, and certain party's - likely Sony - didn't want hassle from Disney. The episode was replaced by a clip show, which, rather awkwardly, added elements from the actual episode it was replacing.
The music running through the opening was written and performed by Zone, a Japanese pop band.
Series rights are held by Tezuka Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

It is being produced by Imagi Animation Studios, the animation production company of TMNT and the upcoming Gatchaman. The studio announced the project in September 2006. It was presented in Real D Cinema.[citation needed] It will be directed by David Bowers (Flushed Away) and produced by Maryann Garger with Pilar Flynn as associate producer.The film was originally to be directed by Colin Brady,[citation needed] who directed the 2006 animated film Everyone's Hero. It has been announced that Freddie Highmore will provide the voice for the character of Astro Boy in the movie. A short trailer of the movie was shown in the North American Home Theater of PlayStation Home from December 28, 2008 to January 8, 2009.
