An executive director is a chief executive officer (CEO) or managing director of an organization, company, or corporation. The title is widely used in North American non-profit organizations, though many United States nonprofits have adopted the title president or CEO.
Confusion can arise because the words executive and director occur both in this title and in titles of various members of some organizations' boards of directors. The precise meanings of these terms are discussed in the board of directors article.
The role of the executive director is to design, develop and implement strategic plans for the organization in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner. The executive director is also responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization, which includes managing committees and staff as well as developing business plans in collaboration with the board. In essence, the board grants the executive director the authority to run the organization. The executive director is accountable to the chairman of the board of directors and reports to the board on a regular basis – quarterly, semiannually, or annually. The board may offer suggestions and ideas about how to improve the organization, but the executive director decides whether or not, and how, to implement these ideas.

Matthew Becker is no stranger to the North Dakota Republican Party. He's served as the NDGOP Executive Director and even ran Congressman Kevin Cramer's successful congressional campaign. The odd thing to some, however, may be that Becker recently wrote a letter to the editor in the Grand Forks Herald endorsing Democrat Hillary Clinton for President. Becker joined Joel Heitkamp to explain why he is asking his fellow Republicans to join him in supporting Clinton. In addition to describing Donald Trump as completely unfit for the presidency, Becker elaborates on his concerns for the future of the Republican Party, and further, this country should partisanship continue to deepen its roots in politics and decision-making.

Dr Yaron Brook, Executive Director of the Ayn Rand Institute speaks to the Oxford Guild Business Society at the Said Business School in May 2014 on the topic of 'The Morality of Capitalism'. The event was co-hosted with Liberty League in association with the Ayn Rand Institute and was a thought provoking and heated discussion on a wide range of issues. Dr Brook had flown in from the US to speak about this controversial, topical and fascinating topic and it proved to be a very exciting event. The blurb for the talk is below: Capitalism Without Guilt: The Moral Case for Freedom Capitalism has an undisputed record of wealth generation, yet it has always functioned under a cloud of moral suspicion. In a culture that venerates Mother Teresa as a paragon of virtue, businessmen sit in stoic sil...
Non-execs can be a great support for a growing business, but how do you interest them if you don’t have a large budget? The solution is for SMEs to ‘share’ directors as non-execs. This encourages business leaders to develop executive skills in other organisations and creates opportunities for companies to experience a non-executive from a pool of talented professionals. On this edition of Business Connections Live we talk to Martin Hawley MD of Boardcircle which was created to provide a unique opportunity for small and medium sized companies to effectively ‘share’ directors, as non-executives. https://www.boardcircle.me/ You Can Contact Business Connections Live The UK’s Leading Online Business Channel: Visit our Website http://businessconnectionslive.com Follow us on Twitter for the la...
