Come Clean (novel)

Come Clean is the second novel written by the UK-based American author Terri Paddock. The book was released in the United Kingdom in 2004. The title is the name of a fictional drug rehabilitation center based in the fictional town of Carrefort, Pennsylvania. The book is dedicated to survivors of real life rehabilitation program Straight, Incorporated, including Paddock's sister.

Plot

Justine Ziegler is taken, against her will, to 'Come Clean Drug Rehabilitation Center', the same rehabilitation center her twin brother Joshua Ziegler attended. After an interview with the program director in which most of her answers are twisted out of context to make her seem like a drug addict, Justine is admitted to Come Clean for what is supposedly a three-day observation. First she is subjected to a strip search by a senior member, before being taken to the main hall, where the members of the program are "motivating" as part of their rehabilitation. The head of the program, Hilary Navarre, asks the group if anyone knows her, and a boy called Earl admits to taking marijuana with her. Justine denies this, until pages of her diary are read out and the twisted truth comes out.

Music

Music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is sound and silence. The common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics (loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the "color" of a musical sound). Different styles or types of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements. Music is performed with a vast range of instruments and with vocal techniques ranging from singing to rapping, and there are solely instrumental pieces, solely vocal pieces and pieces that combine singing and instruments. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike; "art of the Muses"). In its most general form, the activities describing music as an art form include the production of works of music (songs, tunes, symphonies, and so on), the criticism of music, the study of the history of music, and the aesthetic examination of music. Ancient Greek and Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound."

Instrumental

An instrumental is a musical composition or recording without lyrics, or singing, although it might include some inarticulate vocal input; the music is primarily or exclusively produced by musical instruments.

In a song that is otherwise sung, a section not sung but played with instruments can be called an instrumental interlude. If the instruments are percussion instruments, the interlude can be called a percussion interlude. These interludes are a form of break in the song.

In popular music

In commercial popular music, instrumental tracks are sometimes renderings of a corresponding release that features vocals, but they may also be compositions originally conceived without vocals. An instrumental version of a song which otherwise features vocals is also known as a -1 (pronounced minus one).

The opposite of instrumental music is a cappella.

For genres in which a non-vocal song or interlude is conceived using electronic media, rather than with true musical instruments, the term instrumental is nonetheless used for it.

Classical music

Classical music is art music produced or rooted in the traditions of Western music, including both liturgical (religious) and secular music. While a similar term is also used to refer to the period from 1750-1820 (the Classical period), this article is about the broad span of time from roughly the 11th century to the present day, which includes the Classical period and various other periods. The central norms of this tradition became codified between 1550 and 1900, which is known as the common practice period. The major time divisions of classical music are as follows: the early music period, which includes the Medieval (500–1400) and the Renaissance (1400–1600) eras; the Common practice period, which includes the Baroque (1600–1750), Classical (1750–1820), and Romantic eras (1804–1910); and the 20th century (1901–2000) which includes the modern (1890–1930) that overlaps from the late 19th-century, the high modern (mid 20th-century), and contemporary or postmodern (1975–2015) eras.

We loved it. It combined two of the things we are working to accomplish -- inviting people to classical music and inspiring young musicians. Steven Sharp Nelson had soloed with the orchestra the previous year and loved the spirit and the talent that the orchestra showed at such young ages (ages 13-18!) Together we developed the concept of "Beethoven's 5 Secrets," combining OneRepublic's tune "Secrets" with melodies and moments from all four movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. We used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (not including the "bridge" the orchestra plays in the middle). Try to guess where they are and where they come from! What are Beethoven's secrets? He had many. His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his "weakness." He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that ...one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life's greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had "secrets" that had to be "forced into" in order to obtain art's highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the "secrets" of art -- people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. Τότε η έμπιστη και πανέξυπνη οικονόμος αλλά και φύλακας άγγελός του Μάνου η δαιμόνια Κούλα (Βάσια Τριφύλλη) και ο επιστήθιος φίλος του καλούνται να πάρουν στα χέρια τους την ανεξέλεγκτη κατάσταση που οδηγεί σε ξεκαρδιστικές και απρόβλεπτες κωμικές ανατροπές με αποκορύφωμα το απογειωτικό και ανατρεπτικό...…φινάλε!! Σημείωμα σκηνοθέτη: «Είναι πολύ μεγάλη η χαρά μου που σκηνοθετώ μια τόσο επιτυχημένη διεθνώς κωμωδία, ένα είδος που υπερασπίζομαι και αγαπώ τα τελευταία χρόνια, τη φαρσοκωμωδία, ένα δύσκολο είδος που απαιτεί δεξιοτεχνία, ρυθμό, μαθηματική εκτέλεση και βιρτουοζιτέ από τους ηθοποιούς, σε ένα χώρο όπως το «Χυτήριο», που ειδικά μετά τη επιτυχία του «Bam Bam» που παίχτηκε για τρεις σεζόν, έχει χτίσει ένα εκπαιδευμένο κοινό στην κωμωδία που είμαι σίγουρος ότι και φέτος θα αγκαλιάσει μια ομάδα νέων αλλά και έμπειρων συνάμα ηθοποιών. Στηv Ελλάδα αvέβηκε για πρώτη φoρά τo 1962, με τov τίτλo "Κoρίτσια...στov Αέρα", από τo θίασo τoυ Δημήτρη Χoρv και Μάρως Κοντού. Αργότερα ανέβηκε από τον Γιάννη Μπέζο, τον Παύλο Χαϊκάλη και τη Ναταλία Τσαλίκη με τον τίτλο «Φουλ της Ντάμας». Ο Μαρκ Καμολεττί (1923-2003) έγραψε πάνω από 40 έργα και πήρε τον τίτλο του Ιππότη της Λεγεώνας της Τιμής στη Γαλλία. Έτσι, μπήκε στο Βιβλίο Γκίνες ως το πιο πολυπαιγμένο Γαλλικό έργο διεθνώς. Στην ταινία παραγωγής της Παραμάουντ πρωταγωνίστησαν ο Τζέρυ Λούις, ο Τόνι Κέρτις και η Θέλμα Ρίττερ. Κατόπιν, ένα άλλο έργο του το Don’t dress for Dinner, παίχτηκε επίσης επί επτά χρόνια στο Γουέστ Εντ του Λονδίνου. Γάλλος υπήκοος, γεννημένος στη Γενεύη, αναγνωρισμένο μέλος της Soceiete National des Beaux Arts, ο Μαρκ Καμολεττί, στη θεατρική του καριέρα ευτύχησε να δει τρία έργα του να παίζονται ταυτόχρονα στο Παρίσι.
