A bicycle lock is a security device used to deter bicycle theft, generally by fastening the bicycle to a fixed object, e.g., a bike rack.
An inherent challenge to bicycle theft prevention is wheels and bicycle seats (seatpost fastener) with a quick-release lever, making them detachable from the frame (on most but the most economical of bicycles). Unless both wheels and frame are secured, wheels can be removed separately. An optimal locking method will secure the frame as well as both wheels — either to a fixed object or to each other.
Locking devices vary in size and security; the most secure tending to be the largest, heaviest and least portable. Lesser equipment is used to deter attempts by less skilled and determined thieves. Thus like other security equipment, bicycle locks must compromise between security, portability and cost. Some are made of particularly expensive materials chosen for their acceptable strength and low density.
An alternate defense is the provision of bicycle lockers or a bike cage in which the whole bicycle is locked, but these are rare and uncommon in most countries. A bike locker is not a bicycle lock.

One of the bikes I bought had a cable lock attached. I could have easily cut it off, but it was more fun to "pick" the lock. It wasn't really picking as it was a combination lock, so I didn't use a pick. Maybe cracking the lock is a better term. Anyway, I show you how to quickly and easily open one of these locks without the combination. This will be usueful for people who may have lost/forgotten the combination to their bike lock. Or like in my case, buy a used bike with a lock attached. Please don't use this for any illegal purposes! That said, you might want to find a different kind of lock for your bike! **If the video was useful or interesting please give it a "thumbs up" and consider subscribing. -Website: http://www.RJTheBikeGuy.com -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RJTheBikeGuy...

The #IOT is one of the biggest technology trends of 2015. Internet connectivity, once limited to computers and smartphones, is now baked into everything from smoke alarms, to bicycle locks, sex toys, electricity meters… even entire cities. What does this mean to us as consumers? Will it make life better? Is it just for geeks? Do we risk having stuff that once “just worked” crashing and falling prey to viruses? And what about privacy? Panelists: James Bergin (ASB), Amber Craig (ANZ/Internet NZ), Roger Dennis (Sensing City).
Thad's concept, ParkENT Cycles, is a secure bicycle parking space that's "faster than walking, cheaper than parking." A patented electronic bicycle rack that locks the wheel and frame of bicycles, ParkENT "just wants to 'hug' your bike and keep it safe" (as Thad likes to say). Great question. According to ParkENT, research has shown that all bike locks on the market can be broken in 30 seconds or less. And those regular bike racks don't actually lock up your bike; they're just a "hitching post" where you're counting on that super effective bike lock to secure your bike.

Being Quiet at Port Angeles Library I guess i had the camera pointed at the wrong spot. This light pervades the video the entire time. Not to mention the homeless bum who got drunk and was arrested in the library. When I walked to the bathroom, I could smell a lot of alcohol eminating from someone. I think they got arrested. i saw a bicycle left behind parked at the library later. Then the cops came by and broke the bicycle lock and took the bicycle. I didt actually see the cops take the bicyle or break the lock, I am merely making assumptions here. The series of events seem to tie together nicely. I saw the broken lock in the trash. I didn't walk over to the library until after the cops left. I wasn't able to watch the cops from my car because there was a bush in the way which got in ...
