This is an introduction video to Direct Connect that should inform even a novice what Direct Connect is and what you can do.

Hi, and welcome to this introduction video to the Direct Connect network.
I am Fredrik Ullner, and in this video, I will cover what Direct Connect is, and explain things you'll likely to encounter during your Direct Connect-experience.
Direct Connect, or DC, is a file-sharing and chat network with clients and servers. The network offer a number of features, specifically designed for chatting and file-sharing. The network can be anything from communities with a small group of friends to a large crowd of people around the world.
The network is structured around clients and servers, where servers are commonly referenced as hubs. The hub software is the central part of the network, which mean that the clients need a hub to communicate. All information, except the actual file transfers, are routed through the hub. The hub can enforce rules and different user rights depending on what should be shared, allowed topics of discussion and more.
A client, used by the common user, is an application used to chat, share and search for files with other people. Chatting can be done out in the open to everyone in a hub, or it could be more privately between two people.
A hub list is a way to group and view multiple hubs in a simple list, allowing you to pick a hub that suits your discussion topics and sharing needs. The list is mostly viewed through the client but many hub lists offer a website alternative.
Some additional terminology that might be useful to know;
An operator is a person who administrates a hub and can enforce a hub's rules.
Slots are the number of available channels for upload. That is, if you have five slots open, five people can download from you.
A hash is a unique representation of a file, regardless of the file's name or path.

This shows direct LAN connection between 2 PC / computer and setup the IP settings for file sharing and transferring.
This type of file transfer will be faster and good if there is no USB available for use.
Please note that the firewall for the PC2 must allow to have file / printer sharing option checked. Else the sharing will not be able to perform.

Hi and welcome to this introduction to DC++, a client for the Direct Connect Network
I am Fredrik Ullner and in this video I will go through downloading, installing, configurating and finally running DC++.
We first need to download DC++.
Open up your browser, go to a search engine and type in DC++.
When you are looking at the search results, make sure that you go through the official DC++ website. Verify that the addresses point to SourceForge.
When you are on the official website, you can simply click 'Download DC++' as shown here. Your browser will ask you if you want to run or save the file. It's a good idea to save the file if you want to re-install DC++ later on or give it to a friend.
We run the installer file, and get prompted to verify that we indeed want to run the file. Make sure that you have administration rights and get permission to install DC++.
When the DC++ installer starts, you are prompted with a dialog to choose the language that we want to use for the installation process.
The next page describe what license DC++ uses. Make sure you read through the entire license agreement before agreeing.
The next page allow you to select which components you want to install.
The first item is DC++ itself, which is required.
The second it whether you want to have country information for users, and the rest are self explanatory.
The next page allow you to select the location where DC++ should be installed in.
When you are satisfied with your options, simply click Install to begin the installation process.
Press 'Close' when the process is completed.
We locate the shortcut on the Start menu and start DC++.
When DC++ has started, we are prompted with the settings dialog and the DC++ help file.
The help file can explain Direct Connect as well as settings, terminology and frequently asked question. The help file can always be reached by clicking on Help.
DC++ only require one setting to function; the nick name or handle that you will use on Direct Connect.
DC++ will automatically try and detect the best possible connection for you but may sometimes fail. The passive mode should only be used as a last resort. I will however use it in this video to quickly show you downloading and searching.
You can select the location where DC++ should by default store downloaded file.
You can select the directories where you have content that you want to share with others.
When you are done with these basic settings, click OK.
Now we need to find some hubs to connect to.
We open up the Public Hubs window, either via the View menu or by clicking on the toolbar. DC++ will then download a hub list and present all the hubs that it has. You can also select a different hub list.
When the hub list has been downloaded, you can go through the different hubs and see which hub may suit your interest. Click on the different tabs to sort according to amount of users etc.
Either double click or right click the hub you want to connect to.
When you login, you are usually greeted with some message and possibly rules that apply to the hub.
To write to everyone in the hub, you can simply write in the text field and send the message by pressing Enter. This message will then appear to everyone else as well.
The user list on the right side are other people in different countries all around the world. All of these people have something to share, as you can see on the Shared tab.
To connect to someone, you can either double click them in the userlist or right click and select Get file list. DC++ will then proceed to download the user's file list enabling you to see what they are sharing.
You can then browse the file list for files you want. When you have found a directory or file you want to download, double click the item or right click and select Download.
DC++ will then proceed to download the file or directory, as you can see in the bottom window. You can also see here the speed and when the file will be downloaded. You will also see here any uploads from you.
To search for files, open the Search window, and enter a search term and select restraints on what results you want. E.g., if you only want audio files or video files.
To see if we are indeed able to search, I will enter a search term I know will get results, which is the file we are downloading. To download a file, double click or right click and select Download. Since we are already downloading this file, DC++ will automatically add all others as source for this file.
We can see what files we have queued up by going to the Download Queue, either via the menu or the toolbar. To remove a file from the queue, right click and select 'Remove'. You can also use the Delete key on your keyboard. Confirm that you want to remove the file.

Windows 95
Windows 95 (codenamed Chicago) is a consumer-oriented operating system developed by Microsoft. It was released on August 24, 1995, and was a significant improvement over the company's previous DOS-based Windows products.
Windows 95 merged Microsoft's formerly separate MS-DOS and Windows products. Direct Connect (protocol)
Direct Connect (DC) is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol. Direct Connect clients connect to a central hub and can download files directly from one another. Advanced Direct Connect can be considered a successor protocol.
Hubs feature a list of clients or users connected to them. Users can search for files and download them from other clients, as well as chat with other users.
History
NeoModus was started as a company funded by the adware "Direct Connect" by Jonathan Hess in November, 1999 while he was in high school.
The first third-party client was called "DClite", which never fully supported the file sharing aspects of the protocol. Hess released a new version of Direct Connect, requiring a simple encryption key to initiate a connection, locking out third-party clients. The encryption key was cracked, and the author of DClite released a new version of DClite compatible with the new software from NeoModus. Some time after, DClite was rewritten as Open Direct Connect with the purpose of having an MDI user interface and using plug-ins for file sharing protocols (similar to MLDonkey). Open Direct Connect also did not have complete support for the full file sharing aspects of the protocol, but a port to Java, however, did. Later on, other clients such as DCTC (Direct Connect Text Client) and DC++ became popular.

Step 5 Click on my computer in both laptops and share the drive from which you need to transfer data. and Restart the two laptops. The network is structured around clients and servers, where servers are commonly referenced as hubs. The hub software is the central part of the network, which mean that the clients need a hub to communicate. All information, except the actual file transfers, are routed through the hub. The hub can enforce rules and different user rights depending on what should be shared, allowed topics of discussion and more.
A client, used by the common user, is an application used to chat, share and search for files with other people. Chatting can be done out in the open to everyone in a hub, or it could be more privately between two people.
A hub list is a way to group and view multiple hubs in a simple list, allowing you to pick a hub that suits your discussion topics and sharing needs. The list is mostly viewed through the client but many hub lists offer a website alternative.
Some additional terminology that might be useful to know;
An operator is a person who administrates a hub and can enforce a hub's rules.
Slots are the number of available channels for upload. That is, if you have five slots open, five people can download from you.
A hash is a unique representation of a file, regardless of the file's name or path.

Hi and welcome to this introduction to DC++, a client for the Direct Connect Network
I am Fredrik Ullner and in this video I will go through downloading, installing, configurating and finally running DC++.
We first need to download DC++.
Open up your browser, go to a search engine and type in DC++.
When you are looking at the search results, make sure that you go through the official DC++ website. Verify that the addresses point to SourceForge.
When you are on the official website, you can simply click 'Download DC++' as shown here. Your browser will ask you if you want to run or save the file. It's a good idea to save the file if you want to re-install DC++ later on or give it to a friend.
We run the installer file, and get prompted to verify that we indeed want to run the file. Make sure that you have administration rights and get permission to install DC++.
When the DC++ installer starts, you are prompted with a dialog to choose the language that we want to use for the installation process.
The next page describe what license DC++ uses. Make sure you read through the entire license agreement before agreeing.
The next page allow you to select which components you want to install.
The first item is DC++ itself, which is required.
The second it whether you want to have country information for users, and the rest are self explanatory.
The next page allow you to select the location where DC++ should be installed in.
When you are satisfied with your options, simply click Install to begin the installation process.
Press 'Close' when the process is completed.
We locate the shortcut on the Start menu and start DC++.
When DC++ has started, we are prompted with the settings dialog and the DC++ help file.
The help file can explain Direct Connect as well as settings, terminology and frequently asked question. The help file can always be reached by clicking on Help.
DC++ only require one setting to function; the nick name or handle that you will use on Direct Connect.
DC++ will automatically try and detect the best possible connection for you but may sometimes fail. The passive mode should only be used as a last resort. I will however use it in this video to quickly show you downloading and searching.
You can select the location where DC++ should by default store downloaded file.
You can select the directories where you have content that you want to share with others.
When you are done with these basic settings, click OK.
Now we need to find some hubs to connect to.
We open up the Public Hubs window, either via the View menu or by clicking on the toolbar. DC++ will then download a hub list and present all the hubs that it has. You can also select a different hub list.
When the hub list has been downloaded, you can go through the different hubs and see which hub may suit your interest. Click on the different tabs to sort according to amount of users etc.
Either double click or right click the hub you want to connect to.
When you login, you are usually greeted with some message and possibly rules that apply to the hub.
To write to everyone in the hub, you can simply write in the text field and send the message by pressing Enter. This message will then appear to everyone else as well.
The user list on the right side are other people in different countries all around the world. All of these people have something to share, as you can see on the Shared tab.
To connect to someone, you can either double click them in the userlist or right click and select Get file list. DC++ will then proceed to download the user's file list enabling you to see what they are sharing.
You can then browse the file list for files you want. When you have found a directory or file you want to download, double click the item or right click and select Download.
DC++ will then proceed to download the file or directory, as you can see in the bottom window. You can also see here the speed and when the file will be downloaded. You will also see here any uploads from you.
To search for files, open the Search window, and enter a search term and select restraints on what results you want. E.g., if you only want audio files or video files.
To see if we are indeed able to search, I will enter a search term I know will get results, which is the file we are downloading. To download a file, double click or right click and select Download. Since we are already downloading this file, DC++ will automatically add all others as source for this file.
We can see what files we have queued up by going to the Download Queue, either via the menu or the toolbar. To remove a file from the queue, right click and select 'Remove'. You can also use the Delete key on your keyboard. Confirm that you want to remove the file.

Hi guys, In this video I will tell you how to connect two computer using wireless connection and after connection you can share files between those two computer. It is quite easy and doesn't need any third party help. 99.99% laptop (not Desktop computer) comes with wifi. You just need to turn on both computer's wi fi switch..
It doesn't need any wi fi router. Your primary computer will work as a hub and you can connect more computer also. Actually you create a network by your computer in which you can view or share files among those computer.
One more thing it doesn't need IP address like for the connection by LAN wire. All you need is to create Ad-hoc network. The range of this network will be within your home. It depends your computer wi fi range and speed.
If your primary (or Computer 1 in this video) computer is connected to Internet then you will be able to share internet also. Here you should note that you can not connect your mobile phone with this network

Follow the below steps and procedure to know -- how to transfer files from laptop to laptop using wifi
Step 1 switch on the two laptops between which you need to transfer data using wifi . you can also transfer files from pc to pc using wifi , if you have wifi transmitter and wifi receiver installed on your computers. use usb wifi transmitter and reciver for implementing on pc. by the same process. It doesn't matter whether you are using windows 7 or windows 8 installed on you pc or laptops.
Step 2 On both laptops go to -- control panel - network & sharing center - change advance sharing settings - turn on network discovery - turn on printer & file sharing - click on allow windows to manage home group connections . expand all networks menu & choose - turn on sharing so any one with network access can read and write files in public folder. Select - use 128 bit encryption & Turn Off Password protection sharing.
Step 3 Now we will make one laptop transmitter and another laptop as receiver , Hence go to the first laptop control panel and go to manage wireless networks - click on add - create an ad hoc network - do the next & write the wifi network name and create a password if you required . that's all we have to do one laptop 1 . now if we see on the bottom of the laptop we find that the recently created network is waiting for user to get connected .
Step 4 Now go to second laptop which we had made as receiver . search for wifi network , you will find the wifi name of just created on laptop 1 . connect to that if you had created a password just key in the password for authentication .
Step 5 Click on my computer in both laptops and share the drive from which you need to transfer data. and Restart the two laptops.
Step 6 we are ready to transfer files through wifi between two laptops . Just open my computer - click on network - you will find your one another laptops in both the laptop , just click on the computer name - click on drive and copy and share files between both.

Furthermore, given the large number of peers in many file sharing systems, they can potentially be leveraged to create large-scale DDoS attacks against arbitrary targets. In this talk we examine attacks both on and from file sharing systems. For the attacks on, we examine two  attack types: index poisoning and pollution insertion. In the index poisoning attack, for a set of targeted titles, the attacker inserts massive numbers of bogus records into the index. As a result, when a user searches for a targeted title, the index returns bogus results, such as bogus file identifiers, bogus IP addresses, or bogus port numbers. In the pollution attack, the attacker inserts large volumes of polluted content into the system. We shall discuss both attacks in FastTrack, an unstructured P2P system, and Overnet, a DHT-based system which is part of eDonkey. We will also discuss how attackers can exploit a P2P file-sharing system to launch a DDoS attack against an arbitrary target host. In particular, we provide measurement results from our own mini-DDoS attacks exploiting Overnet.

This is definitely a new direction for the My Cloud line that is clearly aimed at simplifying the complexity of NAS devices for general consumers. And it appears to achieve what it sets out to do. It's very easy to get up and running: plug it in, set up an account, install some software on your PC or mobile app, and you're done. But all of this ease comes at a loss of control that advanced users will want. And there's not backup functionality yet.
Unlike the prior My Cloud devices this will work the same on a local network as it does remotely. So Mac OS and Windows will see this as a regular drive even if you're halfway across the world. It will of course run slower remotely due to available Internet connection speeds but it is a lot easier to use as a cloud device vs. the previous consumer models.
But a lot of sacrificed for this simplicity for advanced users. The drive requires an account with WD and will not work standalone. It will not be available as a network drive to computers without the software running. Multiple users are supported but they exist in their own silos and cannot share files with each other. The owner of the drive cannot see what files other users have stored on it.
The biggest omission I see so far is that it has no way of backing itself up automatically. This was a key feature of the original My Clouds and allowed copying data to an external drive for backup. Not here. So while external drives can copy data TO the My Cloud Home, data itself can't be copied out unless it is done manually over the network.
I'm sure we'll be doing more with this in the coming months as new features are added.

I get a call early in the morning from a guy named Charlie (aka. Raj) claiming to be from Microsoft telling me my computer has the virus called Code Red. I decide that Charlie needs to have an hour of his day wasted because you guys need entertainment and these scammers need to be taken down. If you encounter a scammer collect as much info as possible and report them to the FBI @ http://tips.fbi.com.
