Ivan Lebedeff (18 June 1894 – 31 March 1953) was a Russian film actor. He appeared in 66 films between 1926 and 1953.
He was born in Ushpol (later Užpaliai), Lithuania, then part of the Russian Empire, on 18 June 1894, and died in Los Angeles, California, from a heart attack.
He migrated to the United States in 1925 and in 1930 was recorded at Los Angeles as an actor.
On 15 August 1937, he was recorded as re-entering the United States from Mexico, when it was noted that he had resided in the U. S. between 2 October 1925 and 14 October 1930, and again between 20 April 1932, and 13 August 1937. His closest relation was given as his sister Nathalie Lebedeff, of Nice, in the south of France.
On 12 November 1937, he was naturalized in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
He died on 31 March 1953.
Aaron Lebedeff (1873–1960), a Yiddish theater star, was born in Homel, Belarus.
In childhood he sang for the Hazzan, Borekh David. Having no interest in education, he was sent to learn a trade, but soon he ran away and began to play small roles in a Russian theaters in Bobruysk, Minsk and other towns. When the Russian troup fell apart, he went back to Homel, taking part in amateur theater and opening a dance club. When Leyzer Bernshtein's troup arrived, he wheedled a place in it.
He was officially a chorister, unofficially a roadie/stage hand (pekl-treger). He dressed the actors and was a prompter. He finally debuted in Der Pipkiner rav and became the character actor he would remain, playing in different wandering theater troupes across Russia. He was hired in Warsaw and became popular there as Der Litvisher Komiker (The Litvak comic). In 1912–13, he played in Łódź with Zandberg, then back to Warsaw; and at the outbreak of World War I, he was pressed into the Russian army and sent to Harbin, Manchuria, (1916), where he spent his time of military service giving concerts for the officers.
Demetri Evan Martin (born May 25, 1973) is an American comedian, actor, artist, musician, writer, and humorist. He is best known for his work as a stand-up comedian, being a contributor on The Daily Show, and his Comedy Central show Important Things with Demetri Martin.
Martin was born on May 25, 1973 to a Greek American family in New York City, New York, the son of nutritionist Lillian and Greek Orthodox priest Dean C. Martin (now deceased). He grew up in Toms River, New Jersey, and has a younger brother named Spyro.
Martin graduated from Yale University in 1995. During his time there, he wrote a 224-word poem about alcoholism as a project for a fractal geometry class, which became a well known palindromic poem. He was also a member of the Anti-Gravity Society, whose members juggle objects on Sunday evenings on Yale's Old Campus.
Although Martin was accepted into Harvard Law School, he went to New York University School of Law after he received a full scholarship. Martin withdrew from law school before the start of his final year, opting to pursue comedy over finishing his Juris Doctor.
Gus Arnheim (September 4, 1897 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – January 19, 1955 in Los Angeles, California) was a pianist and an early popular band leader. He is noted for writing several songs with his first hit being "I Cried for You" from 1923. He was most popular in the 1920s and 1930s. He also had a few small acting roles.
Arnheim's first recorded for OKeh in 1928-1929, when he signed with Victor in 1929 and stayed through 1933. He signed with Brunswick and recorded through 1937. In 1928-31, Arnheim had an extended engagement at the Cocoanut Grove in Los Angeles. In 1930, when Paul Whiteman finished filming The King of Jazz for Universal, The Rhythm Boys vocal trio, consisting of Bing Crosby, Harry Barris and Al Rinker decided to stay in California and they signed up with Arnheim's band. While the Rhythm Boys only recorded one song with Arnheim, "Them There Eyes" (which also happened to be The Rhythm Boys final recording), Arnheim's Orchestra backed Crosby on a number of songs released by Victor Records in 1931. These popular records, coupled with Arnheim's radio broadcasts featuring Crosby's solo vocals, were a key element to the beginning of Crosby's popularity as a crooner.
Hello :) Wow. Can I say that again? Wow. You must watch this early Classic to the very end. It's a very well-written, thoughtful, memorable story. During production, this film was known by several titles, including: Children of the Streets, Ladies for Hire, A Lady for Hire and Forgotten Women. Are you Intrigued? Watch this for the 1st time, or the 2nd, or more! You'll catch new things each time you watch this full, honest story. It's one of "those"... Sit back, relax, kick off your shoes, and enjoy this still-relevant 86 year old Story. My 2 cents...this heart-felt story challenged me in many ways. It made me ask myself, if put in each main character's circumstance, just WHAT WOULD I DO? If truly hungry and homeless, or desperately wanting, from a good heart, to save my relationsh...

The Klezmer Conservatory Band performing "Be Happy!" (Lyrics: Max Vilner) Track 8, from the Album "Dance me to the end of love" I'll sing you a song that gives me great pleasure, the tune is old but the words are new. Our grandmothers and grandfathers used to sing it, and father used to sing it after having his Shabbath kugel. Listen to this lovely story about something that really happened. My neighbour told me that his wife ran aweay with his best friend,Yukl, late last night, and early this morning he brought her back. A blind beggar stands on the street begging for a penny or two. "I'm the father of nine and I must support them". I ask, "Pray tell, how do you come to have so many children?" He answers, "Can I see what I'm doing?...I'm blind". My neighbour ha...

Jiddisch is gor nischt asoj schwer ... Jiddisch is goa ned aso schwa.
