As the woman tried to get away she too was attacked and received several cuts.
Two men, aged 44 and 35, who tried to help her were also injured as they tried to restrain the 74-year-old.
He has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, assault causing grievous bodily harm and breaching a violence restraining order.
He is due in court today, Saturday.
