Tinea cruris or Jock itch is a fungal infection that causes a red, scaly and itchy rash in warm, moist areas of the body. The rash often affects the groin, the inner thighs and is usually shaped like a ring.
Jock itch gets its name because it's common in athletes. It's also common in people who sweat a lot or who are overweight.
Although often uncomfortable and bothersome, jock itch is a very common condition and usually isn't serious – but keeping that in mind – never ignore any disease and always seek medical help at the earliest.
Hence it is important to treat it at an early stage because if not treated in the early stages it becomes very difficult to treat later on -as the topical drugs that are used for the treatment of normal fungal infections of the skin fail to act effectively at later stages of the disease

Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, so this type of environment can cause them to naturally overpopulate. The same fungi that cause nail infections, athlete’s foot, and ringworm can cause jock itch.
These belong to a group of fungi k/a the dermatophytes.
Trichophyton is the most common dermatophyte involved in jock itch. Other dermatophytes that may be involved are Epidermophyton and Microsporum

Tinea is the name of a group of diseases caused by a fungus. Types of tinea include ringworm, athlete's foot and jock itch. These infections are usually not serious, but they can be uncomfortable. Overview of Fungal Skin Infections including Tinea Pedis (Athlete's Foot), Tinea Corporis (Ringworm), Tinea Cruris (Jock Itch), Tinea Capitis and Tinea Unguium.
Lesson on Tinea (Fungal) Skin Infections. Tinea infections are fungal infections of the skin caused by fungi of the genus trichophyton and epidermophyton. Tinea infections can occur anywhere on any epidermal surface, and each infection is named according to its location. For instance, ringworm can occur on various parts of the body including the face, neck, trunk, arms and legs, but other infections like fungal infection on the feet, is named as "Athlete's foot". Another example is tinea capitis, which is a fungal infection of the scalp of the head that can cause hair loss. The clinical presentation of tinea infections is related to the pathphysiology of the fungal species, which involves the fungi metabolizing and digesting a particular protein in our skin, hair and nails. Each tinea infection has particular clinical presentation, and we discuss each of these in detail.

Tinea cruris
Tinea cruris, also known as crotch itch, crotch rot, Dhobi itch, eczema marginatum,gym itch,jock itch, jock rot, scrot rot and ringworm of the groin is a dermatophyte fungal infection of the groin region in any sex, though more often seen in males.
Tinea cruris is similar to, but different from Candidal intertrigo, which is an infection of the skin by Candida albicans. The latter is more specifically located between intertriginous folds of adjacent skin, which can be present in the groin or scrotum, and be indistinguishable from fungal infections caused by tinea. However, candidal infections tend to both appear and with treatment disappear more quickly. It may also affect the scrotum.
Signs and symptoms
As the common name for this condition implies, it causes itching or a burning sensation in the groin area, thigh skin folds or anus. It may involve the inner thighs and genital areas, as well as extending back to the perineum and perianal areas.
Tinea is often painful or itchy, but not in every case. There are visual clues to help identify a fungal infection. These include:

Lesson on Tinea (Fungal) Skin Infections. Tinea infections are fungal infections of the skin caused by fungi of the genus trichophyton and epidermophyton. Tinea infections can occur anywhere on any epidermal surface, and each infection is named according to its location. For instance, ringworm can occur on various parts of the body including the face, neck, trunk, arms and legs, but other infections like fungal infection on the feet, is named as "Athlete's foot". Another example is tinea capitis, which is a fungal infection of the scalp of the head that can cause hair loss. The clinical presentation of tinea infections is related to the pathphysiology of the fungal species, which involves the fungi metabolizing and digesting a particular protein in our skin, hair and nails. Each tinea infection has particular clinical presentation, and we discuss each of these in detail.

Tinea cruris or Jock itch is a fungal infection that causes a red, scaly and itchy rash in warm, moist areas of the body. The rash often affects the groin, the inner thighs and is usually shaped like a ring.
Jock itch gets its name because it's common in athletes. It's also common in people who sweat a lot or who are overweight.
Although often uncomfortable and bothersome, jock itch is a very common condition and usually isn't serious – but keeping that in mind – never ignore any disease and always seek medical help at the earliest.
Hence it is important to treat it at an early stage because if not treated in the early stages it becomes very difficult to treat later on -as the topical drugs that are used for the treatment of normal fungal infections of the skin fail to act effectively at later stages of the disease

Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, so this type of environment can cause them to naturally overpopulate. The same fungi that cause nail infections, athlete’s foot, and ringworm can cause jock itch.
These belong to a group of fungi k/a the dermatophytes.
Trichophyton is the most common dermatophyte involved in jock itch. Other dermatophytes that may be involved are Epidermophyton and Microsporum

Lesson on Tinea (Fungal) Skin Infections. Tinea infections are fungal infections of the skin caused by fungi of the genus trichophyton and epidermophyton. Tinea infections can occur anywhere on any epidermal surface, and each infection is named according to its location. For instance, ringworm can occur on various parts of the body including the face, neck, trunk, arms and legs, but other infections like fungal infection on the feet, is named as "Athlete's foot". Another example is tinea capitis, which is a fungal infection of the scalp of the head that can cause hair loss. The clinical presentation of tinea infections is related to the pathphysiology of the fungal species, which involves the fungi metabolizing and digesting a particular protein in our skin, hair and nails. Each tinea infection has particular clinical presentation, and we discuss each of these in detail.

Tinea cruris
Tinea cruris, also known as crotch itch, crotch rot, Dhobi itch, eczema marginatum,gym itch,jock itch, jock rot, scrot rot and ringworm of the groin is a dermatophyte fungal infection of the groin region in any sex, though more often seen in males.
Tinea cruris is similar to, but different from Candidal intertrigo, which is an infection of the skin by Candida albicans. The latter is more specifically located between intertriginous folds of adjacent skin, which can be present in the groin or scrotum, and be indistinguishable from fungal infections caused by tinea. However, candidal infections tend to both appear and with treatment disappear more quickly. It may also affect the scrotum.
Signs and symptoms
As the common name for this condition implies, it causes itching or a burning sensation in the groin area, thigh skin folds or anus. It may involve the inner thighs and genital areas, as well as extending back to the perineum and perianal areas.
Tinea is often painful or itchy, but not in every case. There are visual clues to help identify a fungal infection. These include:
