These census were also used for gerrymandering purposes through manipulative antics and control from London that gave favorable electoral results by keeping a particular political party in power depriving the native Irish of food, housing, jobs,education and voting rights. Leaving them with no other choice but to emigrate to a new land and many died during their trip on the ''coffin ships.
The census were filled in and signed by the head of the household one for each household in the country. The questions on the census were name, age, sex, relationship to head of the household, religion, occupation, marital status, county or country of birth. Individual's who had the ability to read or write and if they spoke the Irish language and those who were blind, deaf or dumb. Also those who were classified as a idiot, imbecile or a lunatic.

This show was found in the archives of the late promoter, Bill Graham, who booked DeVille into the popular Winterland in the summer of 1978 on the same bill as Nick Lowe with Rockpile and Elvis Costello & the Attractions.
Most of the best material from his early albums is present here, including "Spanish Stroll," "Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl," "Guardian Angel," "Cadillac Walk," "Steady Drivin' Man," and "Soul Twist." He gives a memorable vocal performance on a number of these songs, especially, "Soul Twist."
Mink DeVille was born William Borsay, August 27, 1950. He took his surname from his favorite car, a Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Growing up in the heart of Greenwich Village, Willy DeVille absorbed the influences of the already established folk movement (Bob Dylan, Odetta, Phil Ochs), and the growing rock movement (the Blues Project, Jimi Hendrix, and others) which used the Village as its launch pad.
By the late-1970s, he had formed his own band, entitled Mink DeVille, which operated as a group and as a musical foundation for the songs DeVille was writing and singing. They quickly gained acceptance by the punk and alternative music scene, which revolved around New York's legendary CBGB club.
After doing three songs on the indie compilation, Live At CBGBs, Mink DeVille was signed to Capitol Records and produced by legendary Phil Spector/Wall-Of-Sound arranger, Jack Nitzsche. DeVille had an affinity with the classic Spector recordings and the music of the Brill Building, and he also had a deep love of Latin, blues, and folk music. Therefore, his own music style was one of great diversity. He never saw much commercial success in America, but he was loved by critics and had a core cult following that remains loyal to this day.
In Europe, however, he became a superstar and he has been able to sustain a successful career across the Atlantic for nearly 30 years. Willy DeVille kept the band Mink DeVille alive through the early-'80s and the end of the punk explosion. He would return under his own name, releasing a number of albums and film soundtracks, produced by a number of industry celebs, including Dire Straits guitarist, Mark Knopfler. In 1987, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his song, "Storybook Love," the theme from the film, The Princess Bride.

The recorders of the early baroque period are really transitional instruments from the Renaissance to the late baroque period, and various very different constructions are handed down. This soprano recorder is based on the type that was made by H.F. Kynsecker in Nuremberg and adapted by Stephan Blezinger. The bore is gradually stepwise conical.

Dario Castello (early 17th century) was an Italian composer and instrumentalist from the early Baroque period who worked and published in Venice. As regards his instrument, it is not clear whether he played the cornetto or the bassoon. As a composer, he was a late member of the Venetian School and had a role in the transformation of the instrumental canzona into the sonata. There is no biographical information about Castello. Even his birth and death dates are unknown. It is thought he may possibly have died during the great plague of 1630; certainly, he published no new music after this date. The title page of the 1629 edition of the first volume of the Sonate Concertate records him as Capo di Compagnia de Musichi d'Instrumenti da fiato in Venetia, indicating that he led a Venetian company of piffari, a band that could include trumpets, trombones, cornetts, shawms, bagpipes, drums, recorders and viols. The title page of the second volume (1644 edition) of the "Sonate Concertate" lists him as Musico Della Serenissima Signoria di Venetia in S. Marco, & Capo di Compagnia de Instrumenti, indicating that he worked at the great Basilica of St. Mark's where Claudio Monteverdi was maestro di capella. Castello's use of the stile concitato (agitated style) —with quick repeated-note figures— is consistent with his association with Monteverdi. There are records of other instrumentalists with the surname Castello working at St Mark's, and it is possible they were relatives of Dario. Of his music, 29 separate compositions survive. Castello's music is inventive and technically challenging. Strictly worked polyphonic sections alternate with dramatic recitatives over basso continuo, in keeping with the title of the publications "in stil moderno"; however he also uses some of the older canzona technique, which uses short sections of highly contrasting texture, and active rather than lyrical melodic lines. Unusually for the time, Castello often specifies the instruments for each part, calling for cornetti, violins, sackbutts and dulcians. That these works were still being reprinted in the 1650s attests to Castello's influence.

Mink DeVille
Mink DeVille (1974–86) was a rock band known for its association with early punk rock bands at New York’s CBGB nightclub and for being a showcase for the music of Willy DeVille. The band recorded six albums in the years 1977 to 1985. Except for frontman Willy DeVille, the original members of the band played only on the first two albums (Cabretta and Return to Magenta). For the remaining albums and for tours, Willy DeVille assembled musicians to play under the name Mink DeVille. After 1985, when Willy DeVille began recording and touring under his own name, his backup bands were sometimes called “The Mink DeVille Band,” an allusion to the earlier Mink DeVille.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame songwriter Doc Pomus said about the band, “Mink DeVille knows the truth of a city street and the courage in a ghetto love song. Willy DeVille
Willy DeVille (August 25, 1950 – August 6, 2009) was an American singer and songwriter. During his thirty-five-year career, first with his band Mink DeVille (1974–1986) and later on his own, Deville created original songs rooted in traditional American musical styles. He worked with collaborators from across the spectrum of contemporary music, including Jack Nitzsche, Doc Pomus, Dr. John, Mark Knopfler, Allen Toussaint, and Eddie Bo. Latin rhythms, blues riffs, doo-wop, Cajun music, strains of French cabaret, and echoes of early-1960s uptown soul can be heard in DeVille's work.
Mink DeVille was a house band at CBGB, the historic New York City nightclub where punk rock was born in the mid-1970s. DeVille helped redefine the Brill Building sound. In 1987 his song "Storybook Love" was nominated for an Academy Award. After his move to New Orleans in 1988, he helped spark the roots revival of classic New Orleans R&B. His soulful lyrics and explorations in Latin rhythms and sounds helped define a new musical style sometimes called "Spanish-Americana".

"Soul Twist" is a 1962 instrumental crossover single for saxophonist, King Curtis. His debut single on the R&B charts was his most successful, hitting number one for two weeks. "Soul Twist" crossed over to the top 40, where it was one of three singles by King Curtis to make the chart.

By the late-1970s, he had formed his own band, entitled Mink DeVille, which operated as a group and as a musical foundation for the songs DeVille was writing and singing. They quickly gained acceptance by the punk and alternative music scene, which revolved around New York's legendary CBGB club. After doing three songs on the indie compilation, Live At CBGBs, Mink DeVille was signed to Capitol Records and produced by legendary Phil Spector/Wall-Of-Sound arranger, Jack Nitzsche. DeVille had an affinity with the classic Spector recordings and the music of the Brill Building, and he also had a deep love of Latin, blues, and folk music. The instruments: Early baroque soprano recorder 440 Hz (plumwood) by Stephan Blezinger The recorders of the early baroque period are really transitional instruments from the Renaissance to the late baroque period, and various very different constructions are handed down. This soprano recorder is based on the type that was made by H.F. Kynsecker in Nuremberg and adapted by Stephan Blezinger. The bore is gradually stepwise conical. Harpsichord in Italian style by Martin Pühringer, Haslach Compass C-d3, 2 x 8´ with a transposing keyboard for 415/440 cps. Meantone temperament in 440 Hz was used. Dario Castello (early 17th century) was an Italian composer and instrumentalist from the early Baroque period who worked and published in Venice. As regards his instrument, it is not clear whether he played the cornetto or the bassoon. As a composer, he was a late member of the Venetian School and had a role in the transformation of the instrumental canzona into the sonata. There is no biographical information about Castello. Even his birth and death dates are unknown. It is thought he may possibly have died during the great plague of 1630; certainly, he published no new music after this date. The title page of the 1629 edition of the first volume of the Sonate Concertate records him as Capo di Compagnia de Musichi d'Instrumenti da fiato in Venetia, indicating that he led a Venetian company of piffari, a band that could include trumpets, trombones, cornetts, shawms, bagpipes, drums, recorders and viols. The title page of the second volume (1644 edition) of the "Sonate Concertate" lists him as Musico Della Serenissima Signoria di Venetia in S. Marco, & Capo di Compagnia de Instrumenti, indicating that he worked at the great Basilica of St. Mark's where Claudio Monteverdi was maestro di capella. Castello's use of the stile concitato (agitated style) —with quick repeated-note figures— is consistent with his association with Monteverdi. There are records of other instrumentalists with the surname Castello working at St Mark's, and it is possible they were relatives of Dario. Of his music, 29 separate compositions survive. Castello's music is inventive and technically challenging. Strictly worked polyphonic sections alternate with dramatic recitatives over basso continuo, in keeping with the title of the publications "in stil moderno"; however he also uses some of the older canzona technique, which uses short sections of highly contrasting texture, and active rather than lyrical melodic lines. Unusually for the time, Castello often specifies the instruments for each part, calling for cornetti, violins, sackbutts and dulcians. That these works were still being reprinted in the 1650s attests to Castello's influence. -

Most of the best material from his early albums is present here, including "Spanish Stroll," "Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl," "Guardian Angel," "Cadillac Walk," "Steady Drivin' Man," and "Soul Twist." He gives a memorable vocal performance on a number of these songs, especially, "Soul Twist." Mink DeVille was born William Borsay, August 27, 1950. He took his surname from his favorite car, a Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Growing up in the heart of Greenwich Village, Willy DeVille absorbed the influences of the already established folk movement (Bob Dylan, Odetta, Phil Ochs), and the growing rock movement (the Blues Project, Jimi Hendrix, and others) which used the Village as its launch pad. By the late-1970s, he had formed his own band, entitled Mink DeVille, which operated as a group and as a musical foundation for the songs DeVille was writing and singing. They quickly gained acceptance by the punk and alternative music scene, which revolved around New York's legendary CBGB club. After doing three songs on the indie compilation, Live At CBGBs, Mink DeVille was signed to Capitol Records and produced by legendary Phil Spector/Wall-Of-Sound arranger, Jack Nitzsche. DeVille had an affinity with the classic Spector recordings and the music of the Brill Building, and he also had a deep love of Latin, blues, and folk music. Therefore, his own music style was one of great diversity. He never saw much commercial success in America, but he was loved by critics and had a core cult following that remains loyal to this day. In Europe, however, he became a superstar and he has been able to sustain a successful career across the Atlantic for nearly 30 years. Willy DeVille kept the band Mink DeVille alive through the early-'80s and the end of the punk explosion. He would return under his own name, releasing a number of albums and film soundtracks, produced by a number of industry celebs, including Dire Straits guitarist, Mark Knopfler. In 1987, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his song, "Storybook Love," the theme from the film, The Princess Bride.

Mink DeVille was born William Borsay, August 27, 1950. He took his surname from his favorite car, a Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Growing up in the heart of Greenwich Village, Willy DeVille absorbed the influences of the already established folk movement (Bob Dylan, Odetta, Phil Ochs), and the growing rock movement (the Blues Project, Jimi Hendrix, and others) which used the Village as its launch pad.
By the late-1970s, he had formed his own band, entitled Mink DeVille, which operated as a group and as a musical foundation for the songs DeVille was writing and singing. They quickly gained acceptance by the punk and alternative music scene, which revolved around New York's legendary CBGB club.
After doing three songs on the indie compilation, Live At CBGBs, Mink DeVille was signed to Capitol Records and produced by legendary Phil Spector/Wall-Of-Sound arranger, Jack Nitzsche. DeVille had an affinity with the classic Spector recordings and the music of the Brill Building, and he also had a deep love of Latin, blues, and folk music. Therefore, his own music style was one of great diversity. He never saw much commercial success in America, but he was loved by critics and had a core cult following that remains loyal to this day.
In Europe, however, he became a superstar and he has been able to sustain a successful career across the Atlantic for nearly 30 years. Willy DeVille kept the band Mink DeVille alive through the early-'80s and the end of the punk explosion. He would return under his own name, releasing a number of albums and film soundtracks, produced by a number of industry celebs, including Dire Straits guitarist, Mark Knopfler. In 1987, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his song, "Storybook Love," the theme from the film, The Princess Bride.
