At the age of fifteen he first obtained a post in the household of Algernon Percy, 10th Earl of Northumberland; then he entered the service of Lord Percy, the earl's brother, and was present with the royalist army at the Battle of Worcester as Lord Percy's deputy at the ordnance board. And who will lose?
And who will win?
And who will sink?
And who will swim?
And will they storm
The city gates?
And whose necks
Will they break?
But in heaven, no one cares
And in heaven, no one cares
And for our loves
And for our treasons
Oh, we can give
A million reasons
And for our hopes
And for our fears
Oh we give blood
And we give tears
But in heaven, no one cares
And if God is dead
Falling through space
Who will want
To take his place?
And for whom
Will the blood bells ring?
And for whom
Will the choir sing?
And as we stumble
Without sight
Towards the towers
And their knives
Who will drag us
From his claws?
Who will look for us
Washed up on the shore?
And in heaven, no one cares
