These days, you pay $40 for a branded party at popular riverfront nightclubs where age and status, rather than Dj expertise and dancing, shape your experience.in Rave Culture sociologist Tammy Anderson explores the dance music, drug use and social deviance that are part of the pulsing dynamics of this collective. Her ethnographic study compares the Philadelphia rave scene with other rave scenes in London and Ibiza. She chronicles how generational change, commercialization, law enforcement, hedonism, and genre fragmentation fundamentally altered electronic dance music parties. Her analysis calls attention to issues of personal and collective identity in helping to explain such social change and what the decline of the rave scene means for the future of youth culture and electronic dance music.

Music Scene
"Music Scene" was presented by ABC TV in a 45 minute format, Monday evenings 7:30-8:15, a unique time slot that pitted it against CBS' "Gunsmoke" at 7:30PM and NBCs "Laugh In" at 8PM . The series had several hosts including Paul Anka, Lily Tomlin, Groucho Marx and David Steinerg who often served as host, writer, and comedian. This series presented a wider variety of musical guests than did ABCs earlier series "Shindig(1964). The main theme, as with "Shindig" was the hits of the day. In that tradition, "Music Scene" featured such guests as Crosby Stills and Nash, Janis Joplin, James Brown, Judy Collins, and The Rascals as well as The Beatles' in the form of their 1969 video, "The Ballad Of John And Yoko" . Early Rock, Adult Contemporary , R n B and Country were also featured with the appearances of Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers,Tony Bennett, Eydie Gorme , Lou Rawls, Jerry Butler, Sonny James and others

Around the world, Hollywood looms large, presenting America's second-biggest city as a land of palm trees, red carpets and celebrities. This couldn't be further than the truth. As Mahssa Taghinia of Mount Analog puts it, LA is a "geographical memoir, there's no truth or falsehood really, everybody's idea of LA is very personal." There is an escapist bent to the place, and many artists find a small patch of paradise to hole up and work on music. Of course, that lifestyle and the so-called "Autopia," criss-crossed by freeways inhabited by single-driver cars, can be incredibly isolating. People cling to the communities fostered by record stores, radio stations and raves. The endless expanse of the city provides warehouse space for promoters pushed underground by a 2 AM curfew. Since the early '90s, artists from around the world have flown to LA every weekend to play back-alley spots whose locations remain unannounced until a few hours before the party starts.
