Best & worst dressed celebrities of the week

In this week's roundup of red carpet fashion, Michelle Obama goes out with a bang, Chrissy Teigen brings it, and one starlet looks like a stuffed olive. By Harriet Pudney.

THE GLORIOUS: I know we've talked about this one already, but can you imagine letting a look this glorious slide? Michelle Obama has been a style goddess for years and this sequinned Versace could be the best she's ever looked. The rose-gold tone is ridiculously flattering, the cut is perfect, and her body looks insane. Imagine how good it would feel to wear this dress. As I write this the final presidential debate is on and I'm praying for death. I'm going to miss the Obamas a lot. Photo: Getty
THE GOOD: Gugu Mbatha-Raw is legitimately glowing in this Burberry gown. I love the delicate yet autumnal colour palette, I love the V neck, I love the full skirt. This is seriously pretty. Great earrings and lipstick too. Photo: Getty
THE GOOD: I don't really think of myself as a Michael Kors fan - a bit too fake-tan luxury for me - but Chrissy Teigen looks so, so good in this dress of his. Those ruffles could look bizarre, but they're low key enough that they just add some interest, and the length is dead on. Teigen is perfectly styled, too. Full marks. Photo: Getty
THE GOOD: I keep going back and forth on this, but I think on balance that Amy Adams' Tom Ford dress is elegant and classic. The neckline is reminding me a tiny bit of a shower curtain ring, but her hair is gorgeous and the overall vibe is good. Thoughts? Photo: Getty
THE YOU TELL ME: I don't like Anna Kendrick's look here, but I'm 99 per cent sure that's a personal taste issue. The dress fits well, and it's a bit of fun, but the whole quirky-with-a-high-neck look is just very much not for me. I don't hate her velvet heels, and I think she technically looks good, but this isn't one I'm wanting to steal. Photo: Getty
THE NOT QUITE: And here we have Shiri Appleby in Disaya, demonstrating the exact counterpoint to Kendrick on the slide before. This dress is a bit loose and messy, with too much sleeve and a weird collar situation, but I like the '70s glam vibe a lot more. It's technically not great, but I like its spirit. Photo: Getty
THE BAD: My friends, this is a dressing gown. A very expensive Burberry dressing gown on known goddess Priyanka Chopra, but a dressing gown. I'd love to look this good when answering the door to an unexpected guest, but I'm not really feeling it for a red carpet. Chopra's brown lip is everything, though. Photo: Getty
THE BAD: Far be it for me to criticise the ageless, immortal Tilda Swinton, but this dress is... not good. It's by Schiaparelli, so we knew it was going to be patterned, but with the blouse-y fit, weird length and sleeve, it's coming across very 'Nana's church dress.' Side note: that guy getting a selfie with Swinton is much, much braver (more foolhardy?) than me. Photo: Getty
THE BAD: Remember Mandy Moore's tangerine Prabal Gurung gown? This Shoshanna number on Katherine McPhee is like its evil twin. Where Moore's was fun and interesting, McPhee's is a bit of a bedspread. I'm laying blame with the sleeves and the two-twee colour. Photo: Getty
THE WORST: And then there's this. With her red lip and two-tone green dress, actress Genevieve Angelson looks a bit like a pimento-stuffed olive. That aside, I truly don't understand the high neck here, or the baggy fit and the excess of sleeve. Angelson is appearing in a new Amazon Prime show called Good Girls Revolt which looks like it might be kind of great, so here's hoping she gets some better sartorial offers in the near future. Yikes.
