President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan, who has been indicted by the International Criminal Court on counts of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, says he will step down in 2020, when his current mandate ends.

It is the first major weapons fair to be held in the Middle East since the United Nations' Arms Trade Treaty came into effect in December 2014. STORYLINE
China has rolled out the red carpet for a state visit by Sudan's president, wanted on an international warrant that accuses him of war crimes.
President Omar al-Bashir was visiting China, a major trading partner and investor in his country, just days before southern Sudan becomes independent, and with the warrant from the International Criminal Court hanging over his head.
Al-Bashir was greeted on Wednesday by President Hu Jintao at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing and given an honour guard reception.
Al-Bashir's talks with Hu are expected to focus on promoting peace in the African nation ahead of south Sudan's independence July 9.
Sudan's president arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, a day after his plane was forced to turn back over Turkmenistan because of flight itinerary problems.
China is a major economic partner for Sudan, and Beijing extended the invitation to al-Bashir despite the international warrant.
On Tuesday the two countries signed contracts of economic cooperation in Beijing.
Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for allegedly orchestrating atrocities in Sudan's Darfur region on the first such warrant against a sitting head of state.
The Netherlands-based court has no police force and relies on member states to execute its orders and warrants.
China is not a member.
The Sudanese leader rejects the charges, and China, which has major oil investments in Sudan, has expressed concerns the indictment of al-Bashir could further destabilise the region.
China is uniquely positioned to exert influence over the conflict between north and south Sudan, given its efforts to maintain friendly ties with the southern region to protect Chinese oil investments while remaining a key political ally of Sudan's government in the north.
Al-Bashir has travelled without arrest to several other nations, including ICC treaty signatories Chad and Kenya.
South Sudan's declaration of independence next month will be the culmination of a 2005 peace deal that ended more than two decades of civil war that killed more than 2 (m) million people.

Omar al-Bashir
Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir (Arabic: عمر حسن أحمد البشير; born 1 January 1944) is the President of Sudan and the head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when, as a brigadier in the Sudanese Army, he led a group of officers in a military coup that ousted the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi after it began negotiations with rebels in the south. Since then, he has been elected three times as President in elections that have been under scrutiny for corruption. In March 2009, al-Bashir became the first sitting president to be indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), for allegedly directing a campaign of mass killing, rape, and pillage against civilians in Darfur.
In October 2005, al-Bashir's government negotiated an end to the Second Sudanese Civil War, leading to a referendum in the South, resulting in the separation of the south into the separate country of South Sudan. In the Darfur region, he oversaw the War in Darfur that has resulted in death tolls that are about 10,000 according to the Sudanese Government, but most sources suggest between 200,000 and 400,000. During his presidency, there have been several violent struggles between the Janjaweed militia and rebel groups such as the Sudanese Liberation Army (SLA) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) in the form of guerrilla warfare in the Darfur region. The civil war has displaced over 2.5 million people out of a total population of 6.2 million in Darfur and has created a crisis in the diplomatic relations between Sudan and Chad. The rebels in Darfur lost the support from Libya after the death of Muammar Gaddafi and the collapse of his regime in 2011.

STORYLINE
China has rolled out the red carpet for a state visit by Sudan's president, wanted on an international warrant that accuses him of war crimes.
President Omar al-Bashir was visiting China, a major trading partner and investor in his country, just days before southern Sudan becomes independent, and with the warrant from the International Criminal Court hanging over his head.
Al-Bashir was greeted on Wednesday by President Hu Jintao at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing and given an honour guard reception.
Al-Bashir's talks with Hu are expected to focus on promoting peace in the African nation ahead of south Sudan's independence July 9.
Sudan's president arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, a day after his plane was forced to turn back over Turkmenistan because of flight itinerary problems.
China is a major economic partner for Sudan, and Beijing extended the invitation to al-Bashir despite the international warrant.
On Tuesday the two countries signed contracts of economic cooperation in Beijing.
Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for allegedly orchestrating atrocities in Sudan's Darfur region on the first such warrant against a sitting head of state.
The Netherlands-based court has no police force and relies on member states to execute its orders and warrants.
China is not a member.
The Sudanese leader rejects the charges, and China, which has major oil investments in Sudan, has expressed concerns the indictment of al-Bashir could further destabilise the region.
China is uniquely positioned to exert influence over the conflict between north and south Sudan, given its efforts to maintain friendly ties with the southern region to protect Chinese oil investments while remaining a key political ally of Sudan's government in the north.
Al-Bashir has travelled without arrest to several other nations, including ICC treaty signatories Chad and Kenya.
South Sudan's declaration of independence next month will be the culmination of a 2005 peace deal that ended more than two decades of civil war that killed more than 2 (m) million people.

Lieutenant General Omar Hassan Ahmad Al-Bashir (Arabic: عمر حسن أحمد البشير; born 1 January 1944) is the President of Sudan and the head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi.[1]
In October 2005, al-Bashir's government negotiated an end to the Second Sudanese Civil War, one of the longest-running and deadliest wars of the 20th century, by granting limited autonomy to Southern Sudan dominated by the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA).[2] Since then, however, there has been a violent conflict in Darfur that has resulted in death tolls between 200,000[3] and 400,000.[4][5][6] During his presidency, there have been several violent struggles between the Janjaweed militia and rebel groups such as the Sudanese Liberation Army (SLA) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) in the form of guerrilla warfare in the Darfur region. The civil war has displaced[7] over 2.5 million people out of a total population of 6.2 million in Darfur[8] and has created a crisis in the diplomatic relations between Sudan and Chad.[9]
Al-Bashir is a controversial figure both in Sudan and worldwide. In July 2008, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Luis Moreno Ocampo, accused al-Bashir of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur.[10] The court issued an arrest warrant for al-Bashir on 4 March 2009 on counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, but ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute him for genocide.[11][12] However, on 12 July 2010, after a lengthy appeal by the prosecution, the Court held that there was indeed sufficient evidence for charges of genocide to be brought and issued a second warrant containing three separate counts. The new warrant, as with the first, will be delivered to the Sudanese government, which is unlikely to execute it.[12] Al-Bashir was the first sitting head of state indicted by the ICC.[12] The court's decision is opposed by the African Union, League of Arab States, Non-Aligned Movement, and the governments of Russia and China.[13][14] A leak from WikiLeaks allegedly reveals that the Sudanese president had embezzled state funds amounting to US$ 9 billion, to which the Lloyd's Bank of England later rejected as "Lloyds insisted it was not aware of any link with Bashir."[15]

Khalil Al-Marzooq is a Bahraini Shi'a politician and former member of the Council of Representatives. During his time in office, he served as first deputy chairman.
On February 14, 2011, Marzooq and 17 other MPs from Al Wefaq, the main Shi'a Islamist opposition party, resigned from their seats in parliament. Following the quelling of the unrest by the government, Marzooq led negotiations with the government in the Bahrain national dialogue, but he and the four other delegates from Al Wefaq withdrew from negotiations on July 17.
