Kyoto (京都市, Kyōto-shi, pronounced [kʲjoːꜜto.ɕi]; UK /kɪˈoʊtoʊ/, US /kiˈoʊ-/, or /ˈkjoʊ-/) is a city located in the central part of the island of Honshu, Japan. It has a population close to 1.5 million. Formerly the Imperial capital of Japan for more than one thousand years, it is now the capital city of Kyoto Prefecture located in the Kansai region, as well as a major part of the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area. Kyoto is also known as the thousand-year capital.
In Japanese, the city has been called Kyō (京), Miyako (都), or Kyō no Miyako (京の都). In the 11th century, the city was renamed Kyoto ("capital city"), after the Chinese word for capital city, jingdu (京都). After the city of Edo was renamed Tokyo (meaning "Eastern Capital") in 1868, and the seat of the Emperor was transferred there, Kyoto was known for a short time as Saikyō (西京, meaning "Western Capital").
Obsolete spellings for the city's name include Kioto and Meaco. Another term commonly used to refer to the city in the pre-modern period was Keishi (京師), meaning "metropolis" or "capital".

Copy the trip we took on Odigo! https://www.odigo.travel/trips/57526db469702d66aa680f00 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/odigotraveljapan Kyoto is the number one travel destination in Japan, and because there are SO. MANY. things to see there it can be hard to figure out where to go. These are our three recommendations for first-time visitors: Kiyomizu-dera, Arashiyama (which is also where Tenryu-ji is), and Gion and the nearby street Shijo Dori + Yasaka shrine. Fushimi Inari Taisha is probably one of the more famous areas, but for us it was SO crowded that it was difficult to even get around. It kind of just made me feel sad because you could tell how incredibly beautiful and almost magical it would have been hundreds of years ago, but with the crowds today it was just about impossible t...
Kyoto, Japan, has long been considered one of the country’s most beautiful cities. Once the capital of the nation, Kyoto is now an ultra-modern haven that retains a great deal of its ancient charm. To see some of this long-established glamour, make your way to Kyoto Tower. Just two miles east of the tower is Gion, an entertainment quarter and home to many of Kyoto’s famous geishas. As you walk east through Gion, you’ll find even more old architecture, including several Ryokan, or traditional Japanese inns. Many date back to the Edo period, which ranged from 1603 to 1868. During your Kyoto tour, take a rickshaw ride to the Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka districts, where cars are prohibited and traditional teahouses and temples adorn the nearby landscape. Kyoto is known as “The City of Ten Th...

You're in Kyoto and you want to eat traditional and very cheap local food? NISHIKI MARKET is the place to be! It's called “Kyoto's Kitchen” for a reason – if it's famous and eaten in Kyoto, it's here. Nearly every shop selling food has either free samples or a stand where you can buy food on a stick! Street food here ranges in cost from 170 yen to 500 yen. In the episode, John Daub and Kevin Riley go on an eating rampage though Kyoto's Nishiki Ichiba Market near Gion. The market dates back to the year 1310 and is steeped in history and Japanese delicacies. Join us on our food tour through Japan's cultural center. Not far from Nishiki Market is Higashiyama Kiyomizu 3-chome where you can also find a lot of traditional street food such as fresh off the grill senbei (rice crackers) and gr...

Kyoto, Japan Travel Guide 2016 - Tourism & Vacations in Kyoto, Japan - Kyoto, Japan Trip 2016 Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Kyōto (京都) was the capital of Japan for over a millennium, and carries a reputation as its most beautiful city. However, visitors may be surprised by how much work they will have to do to see Kyoto's beautiful side. Nonetheless, the persistent visitor will soon discover Kyoto's hidden beauty in the temples and parks which ring the city center, and find that the city has much...

Sometimes it's got to be obnoxious
Realize everytime we have to draw the line
Last chance to make a change and so on
No one can deny these lines
No one can deny what's been said and done
We can't predict, no one can
Everytime we've got to draw the line
