Dr. Utkarsh is a successful and famous surgeon in the city. He lives a wealthy lifestyle with his singer wife Aru and daughter Teju. Once his childhood friend’s younger brother Chaitanya, who is photographer, comes in the city to cover Aru's programme. When they meet, Utkarsh asks him to stay with his family. Chaitanya has a good taste for art as he appreciates Aru's singing skills which are not so encouraged by busy man Utkarsh. But soon the situation gets complicated as Chaitanya feels that his friendship with Aru is going to create problems in Utkarsh's family and decides to leave. Will Chaitanya leave the place? Synopsis:
In the small village of kusavde', Valu, the wild bull is at loose and is blamed for every single act of chaos and destruction that happens in and around the village. Now catching the bull becomes equivalent to establishing power in the village for the leaders and for those who are interested in the fringe benefits.
A forest officer is called from the city to catch the bull. And what we go through is roller-coaster ride, with the war between the two leaders; love-stories that bloom in the midst of the adventurers; an amateur filmmaker who struggles to shoot a documentary; the forest officer who leads this chaos like a sacred mission; along with the religious priest; the tricksters, and mad woman who seems to understand the mind of Valu!
The film is complex yet amusingly hilarious allegory, where The Valu represents the free will. The film touches you with its simple 'slice of life' treatment full of sensitivity and insight.

"Jogwa is a National Film Award winning 2009 Marathi film directed by Rajiv Patil and produced under iDream Productions & Screenplay by Sanjay Krishnaji Patil. It stars Uupendra Limaye and Mukta Barve in the lead roles while Priya Berde, Vinay Apte and Kishor Kadam essay supporting roles.
The film bagged five awards at the national film awards for 2008. National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues, National Film Award for Best Actor for Uupendra Limaye, National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Ajay Atul, National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for Hariharan for song ""Jeev Rangla"" and National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Shreya Ghoshal for the same song.
It contains strong romantic elements, that explores the life of a rural people from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra who are the devotees of Goddess Yellamma, known as ""Jogtin"" (female) and ""Jogta"" (male); are treated as sex slaves and viewed with a mixture of semi-respect and disdain. Rajiv Patil's substitution of hysterics for nuanced drama means the pic probably has a greater chance of getting its worthy message across to locals rather than fest auds, though Subcontinental sidebars may be roused by the fascinating subject.
Jogwa actually means alms given to a person, usually known as a Jogta or a Jogtini. They are forced by the society to give up everything and serve God. A jogta has to give up the fact of being a man and suppress all his desires. A jogtini is expected to give up herself, she cannot get married, have children or have a life of her own.
This tradition was followed in the rural areas in the ancient times and like any tradition was flexible enough for those in power to misuse it. It is known to be still followed in some villages in Karnataka. Jogwa is a love story between jogta played by Uupendra Limaye and jogtini played by Mukta Barve. The story is adapted and based on three novels - Chaundak and Bhandar Bhog by Dr Rajan Gavas and Darshan by Charuta Sagar.
A heart wrenching tale that exposes the hypocrisies and exploitations of an oppressed society harrowed by archaic traditions and plagued by superstitions in the heart of rural India, Jogwa is a poignant tale of one woman's inspiring journey to break free from the shackles of discrimination, sexual oppression and servitude and find true happiness."

Marathi cinema
Marathi cinema refers to films produced in Marathi, the language of state Maharashtra, India. Based in old Mumbai, it is the oldest and one of the pioneer film industry of India. The first Marathi movie released in India was Shree Pundalik by Dadasaheb Torne on 18 May 1912 at Coronation Cinematograph, Mumbai. and a Marathi crew who were performing Marathi and Sanskrit Sangeet natikas (musicals) and plays in Marathi at that period. The first Marathi talkie film, Ayodhyecha Raja, was released in 1932, just one year after Alam Ara the first Hindi talkie. Although the industry is much smaller than the large market driven Hindi cinema based in Mumbai, Marathi cinema is tax free, and is experiencing growth in recent years. Raja Harishchandra directed by Dadasaheb Phalke was a Marathi film, now known as India's first full-length feature, was released in 1913. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in cinema given annually by the Government of India for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.

Synopsis:
In the small village of kusavde', Valu, the wild bull is at loose and is blamed for every single act of chaos and destruction that happens in and around the village. Now catching the bull becomes equivalent to establishing power in the village for the leaders and for those who are interested in the fringe benefits.
A forest officer is called from the city to catch the bull. And what we go through is roller-coaster ride, with the war between the two leaders; love-stories that bloom in the midst of the adventurers; an amateur filmmaker who struggles to shoot a documentary; the forest officer who leads this chaos like a sacred mission; along with the religious priest; the tricksters, and mad woman who seems to understand the mind of Valu!
The film is complex yet amusingly hilarious allegory, where The Valu represents the free will. The film touches you with its simple 'slice of life' treatment full of sensitivity and insight.

The film bagged five awards at the national film awards for 2008. National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues, National Film Award for Best Actor for Uupendra Limaye, National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Ajay Atul, National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for Hariharan for song ""Jeev Rangla"" and National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Shreya Ghoshal for the same song.
It contains strong romantic elements, that explores the life of a rural people from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra who are the devotees of Goddess Yellamma, known as ""Jogtin"" (female) and ""Jogta"" (male); are treated as sex slaves and viewed with a mixture of semi-respect and disdain. Rajiv Patil's substitution of hysterics for nuanced drama means the pic probably has a greater chance of getting its worthy message across to locals rather than fest auds, though Subcontinental sidebars may be roused by the fascinating subject.
Jogwa actually means alms given to a person, usually known as a Jogta or a Jogtini. They are forced by the society to give up everything and serve God. A jogta has to give up the fact of being a man and suppress all his desires. A jogtini is expected to give up herself, she cannot get married, have children or have a life of her own.
This tradition was followed in the rural areas in the ancient times and like any tradition was flexible enough for those in power to misuse it. It is known to be still followed in some villages in Karnataka. Jogwa is a love story between jogta played by Uupendra Limaye and jogtini played by Mukta Barve. The story is adapted and based on three novels - Chaundak and Bhandar Bhog by Dr Rajan Gavas and Darshan by Charuta Sagar.
A heart wrenching tale that exposes the hypocrisies and exploitations of an oppressed society harrowed by archaic traditions and plagued by superstitions in the heart of rural India, Jogwa is a poignant tale of one woman's inspiring journey to break free from the shackles of discrimination, sexual oppression and servitude and find true happiness."
