Darbhanga
DarbhangÄ? is a city and municipal corporation in Bihar, India. It is the headquarters of Darbhanga district and Darbhanga division. Darbhanga is 5th largest city of Bihar and rapidly developing. Darbhanga is also the second biggest medical hub of Bihar and will have a software technology park soon. A green signal has been given by Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Indian Government. Historically, it had the seating of Darbhanga Raj. Darbhanga is also known as "Cultural Capital of Bihar" or "Unstated Capital of Mithilanchal".
History
The history of Darbhanga dates back to the Ramayana and Mahabharata periods; it is among the oldest cities of Bihar. According to the Vedic sources, the Videhas first migrated to the area from the banks of Saraswati in Punjab; they were guided to the east of Sadanira (Gandak River) by Agni, the God of Fire. Settlements were established and, thus, flourished the kingdom of the Videhas, the Selfless.
In the course of time, Videhas came to be ruled by a line of kings called Janaks. In this line of kings, there was a very famous king named Mithi. To commemorate his greatness the territory was named as Mithila. Another famous king was Janak Sirdhwaja, father of Sita. The legends speak of various learned men patronized by Janak Sirdhwaja, who himself was an erudite scholar. Prominent among them were Yagyavalkya, who codified the Hindu law in his Yagyavalkya Smriti and Gautam, who had various valuable philosophical treatises to his credit. King Janak was himself a great philosopher and his ideas have been eternally enshrined in the Upanishads, especially in the Brihad-Ä?raṇyaka Upaniá¹£ada.

The Queen of the Malwa kingdom (Indore, MP referenced in the video), Ahilyabai Holkar, donated 22x40 kilos of gold for Viswanath Temple, which is just a bit off the ghats in Varanasi. In fact, besides this, Ahilyabai has worked and contributed to well over two dozens temples and ghats all across India. She was also known as the "philoshper's queen'. You also see the mention of Munsi Ghat from Maharaja of Nagpur. You also see Darbhanga Ghat, donated by Maharaja of Darbhanga, Bihar. He suspects that though I speak the local Bhojpuri dialect, I do not reside in Varanasi. He suspects that my English accent is not local, which is a fact. :) These guys know their stuff. The town is known by the name of Hajipur as it was founded by a King of Bengal named Haji Ilyas Shah who ruled between 1345 to 1358 AD. Inside the fort built by this king in Hajipur there is a mosque called Jama Masjid, a plain building measuring 84.5 ft (25.8 m) long and 33.5 ft (10.2 m) broad.

Indian woman selling fish at a local market near Nakhsa Chowk in Hajipur, Bihar, India.
Hajipur is the headquarters of Vaishali district of Tirhut Division - (Tirhut) in Indian state of Bihar.
It is famous for producing bananas, and has a modern railway zonal office. Patna, the capital of Bihar is only 10 km from Hajipur. Mahatma Gandhi Setu, one of the longest bridges in the world, links it to Patna. After Patna, it is the fastest developing town in Bihar, primarily because of its close proximity to Patna (just 10 km). There has been plans to expand Patna to 'Greater Patna', by absorbing Hajipur and other surrounding towns in it. In recent years, Hajipur has seen a drastic rise in the middle class and upper middle class income people.
The town is known by the name of Hajipur as it was founded by a King of Bengal named Haji Ilyas Shah who ruled between 1345 to 1358 AD. Inside the fort built by this king in Hajipur there is a mosque called Jama Masjid, a plain building measuring 84.5 ft (25.8 m) long and 33.5 ft (10.2 m) broad.

In fact, besides this, Ahilyabai has worked and contributed to well over two dozens temples and ghats all across India. She was also known as the "philoshper's queen'.

NÄ?landÄ? was an ancient centre of higher learning in Bihar, India. The site is located about 88 kilometres south east of Patna, and was a religious centre of learning from the fifth century AD to 1197 AD. Nalanda flourished between the reign of the ÅšakrÄ?ditya (whose identity is uncertain and who might have been either Kumara Gupta I or Kumara Gupta II) and 1197 AD, supported by patronage from the Hindu Gupta rulers as well as Buddhist emperors like Harsha and later emperors from the Pala Empire.
The complex was built with red bricks and its ruins occupy an area of 14 hectares. (488 by 244 metres) At its peak, the university attracted scholars and students from as far away as Tibet, China, Greece, and Persia.[6] Nalanda was ransacked and destroyed by a Turkish Muslim army under Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1193. The great library of Nalanda University was so vast that it is reported to have burned for three months after the invaders set fire to it, ransacked and destroyed the monasteries, and drove the monks from the site. In 2006, Singapore, China, India, Japan, and other nations, announced a proposed plan to restore and revive the ancient site as Nalanda International University.
Another ancient University, named as Tiladhaka University has been discovered at Telhara area in Nalanda. This university also finds mentions in the writings of Chinese Traveller Hiuen Tsang.
