Covent Garden (/ˈkɒvənt/) is a district in London on the eastern fringes of the West End, between St. Martin's Lane and Drury Lane. It is associated with the former fruit and vegetable market in the central square, now a popular shopping and tourist site, and the Royal Opera House, which is also known as "Covent Garden". The district is divided by the main thoroughfare of Long Acre, north of which is given over to independent shops centred on Neal's Yard and Seven Dials, while the south contains the central square with its street performers and most of the elegant buildings, theatres and entertainment facilities, including the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and the London Transport Museum.
Welcome to Covent Garden, London. I’m going to show you around and tell you what I know about this famous neighbourhood. Covent Garden is a popular place for tourists to visit in London, so I thought you’d like to see it. Native Londoners (like me) also go to Covent Garden just to walk around and to soak up the atmosphere. Join me as we learn about how this area was in the old days. I will tell you a little bit about the history of London -- how Covent Garden once used to be a very poor area and was considered to be a slum. You can now see how different it is -- there are many theatres and expensive shops. I wonder what it would have been like to be a flower seller in Victorian London. I had fun making this video for you -- hope you enjoy it! Take the quiz here: http://www.engvid.com/we...

Covent Garden is famous for its street entertainment. The best acts tend to site themselves around the outside of the Piazza. You can sometimes listen to singers performing in the basement level of the Piazza too, which you can overlook from the ground-level balcony (just walk round the shops inside the Piazza, and you will see another level below). When we say "street entertainment", we dont mean those boring buskers and silent statues. The acts that perform in Covent Garden are all auditioned in front of a panel of judges to ensure that they're good. You can see everything from mimes and acrobats to daredevil stunt riders, magicians and opera singers... to name just a few. The Piazza is full of posh little shops and stalls, little cafes and restaurants, so it's the perfect place to hav...
This a collection of footage I took at Covent Garden Market in London. The "living statues" are definitely a highlight. There are a few of them performing. Look out for the silver "centurion" guy. He's got a sense of humour ;) "Covent Garden is known for its many open-air cafés, restaurants, pubs, market stalls and shops. Famous are the many street performers who entertain the visitors on the pedestrianized piazza. A former floral market now houses the Theatre Museum and the London Transport Museum. The Covent Garden district is also home to several theaters and the Royal Opera House."
