256 films in fray to be selected for Indian Panorama in International film festival of India

HYDERABAD : Six Telugu films have been submitted as entries to be screened in the Indian Panorama section during the 47th International Film Festival of India, Goa which starts from November 20, 2016. The most number of films 41 have been submitted in Malayalam.

However, compared to the number of films that are produced in Telugu, the number of entries, it has been noticed, is very low. Comparatively, other South Indian languages have sent it more entries to the Director of Film Festivals (DFF) which organizes the IFFI.

The Telugu films that have been sent as entries are Kanche, Pellichupulu, Nenu...Shailaja, Campus Ampasayya, Shaanu - The Optimist, and Manamantha.

DFF has received a total of 256 entries in different languages from which a committee will select the films that will be screened in the Indian Panorama section.


The entries received in other languages are nine in Assamese, 31 in Bengali, one in Bodo, one in Chattisgarhi, four in English, one in English/Hindi, one in Gujarati, one in Himachali, 39 in Hindi, 38 in Kannada, two in Khasi, one in Kodava, seven in Konkani, 41 in Malayalam, one in Manipuri, 38 in Marathi, one in Oriya, two in Punjabi, one in Sanskrit, 25 in Tamil and one in others category, which did not specify the language.


It may be mentioned here that during IFFI 2015, 26 films were selected to be screened in the Indian Panorama section. Among these not a single Telugu film was selected. "Compared to other movies, Telugu films did not stand a chance because of the quality criteria that was applied," a film personality who was a jury member in the past said.


The films selected were in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, Wancho (Arunachali), Bengali, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, Sanskrit, and Bodo.

Last year, as many as 230 entries were received out of which the jury comprising 13 members took 27 days to watch all of them and finalise the selections.
