When he confesses how he feels about Pinky to his best friend Walter Stiltman, not realizing anything is unusual about his feelings, his friend turns on him and word spreads at school that Trevor is gay. Shortly thereafter, a confused Trevor is ostracized by his entire school and in his ensuing pain, goes to such lengths as to give himself electric shock therapy to reverse his apparent homosexuality, runs away from home, and ultimately attempts suicide while lip-syncing to the song "Endless Love." When Trevor awakes in the hospital, he meets Jack, a young candy-striper with a supportive demeanor. Jack's friendship and advice, along with an offer to see Diana Ross, inspires Trevor to live. Trevor Short is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera, EastEnders, played by Phil McDermott.

Trevor was the inseparable sidekick of Paul Priestly. He was a well-meaning individual but he wasn't blessed with much intelligence and he managed to mess up almost every job he was given. He had several crushes on the younger women of Walford, but despite his best efforts he never managed to find a girlfriend.

Trevor arrived in June 1989 in search of his friend, the builder Paul Priestly, who had roomed with him briefly at a youth hostel. Paul wasn't pleased to see Trevor initially, but he nevertheless found him a job working on a construction site with him.

A dim-witted individual "two biscuits short of a box" was how they described him in The Queen Vic. His life had been hard. Rejected by his parents, he spent his youth in and out of children's homes and never really felt that he belonged anywhere as a result.

To his delight, Trevor is befriended by hunky school athlete, Pinky Faraday, upon whom he develops a crush. When he confesses how he feels about Pinky to his best friend Walter Stiltman, not realizing anything is unusual about his feelings, his friend turns on him and word spreads at school that Trevor is gay. Shortly thereafter, a confused Trevor is ostracized by his entire school and in his ensuing pain, goes to such lengths as to give himself electric shock therapy to reverse his apparent homosexuality, runs away from home, and ultimately attempts suicide while lip-syncing to the song "Endless Love." When Trevor awakes in the hospital, he meets Jack, a young candy-striper with a supportive demeanor. Jack's friendship and advice, along with an offer to see Diana Ross, inspires Trevor to live. The film closes with a buoyant Trevor dancing up the sidewalk to his parents' house while singing Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out."
