Manchester is an action-packed city. Sport, music, history, industry, diversity and culture are everywhere. City and United were the top two clubs in England in 2012 – but don't forget Bolton, Stockport, Oldham, Rochdale … The city was the birthplace of the industrial revolution, and recently invigorated through new developments in the centre, Salford Quays and elsewhere.

A rich media scene includes the headquarters of The Guardian, the BBC at Salford Quays, Granada Studios & Coronation Street, and the famous Madchester music scene that spawned the likes of the Happy Mondays and Oasis.

Mancunians can also boast of 'curry mile' in Rusholme, the gay village around Canal Street, a fast train service south, and a major airport, as well as motorways galore and the beautiful Pennines to the east.
