Tony Platt

Tony Platt is an English sound engineer and record producer, best known for his work with a diverse mix of artists, including Celtic Frost, AC/DC, Cheap Trick, Bob Marley, Iron Maiden, Shy, Buddy Guy, Foreigner, Sparks, Jazz Jamaica All Stars, Lillian Axe and Motörhead. Platt has recently completed an album with jazz trio The Bad Plus and UK band Second Person on their second and third studio releases. He continues further development work with a number of artists, including Roland Perrin, Ana Silvera and Daniel Ward Murphy and 28 Costumes.

History

Platt's career started at Trident Studios in London and eventually became an engineer at the world-renowned Island Studios. Working his way from assistant engineer on sessions with the likes of Traffic, The Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin he gradually worked his way up to engineer on sessions with the Free, Sutherland Brothers, Paul McCartney, Jess Roden and Mott the Hoople. He went on to engineer the Catch a Fire and Burnin' albums for Jamaican artist Bob Marley which, it is claimed, would launch reggae music into the mainstream. This association led him to complete "Funky Kingston" for Toots & the Maytals and work with several other notable reggae artists such as ZapPow, Lorna Bennet, Harry J's All Stars, Aswad and The Cimarons.

Back in Black

Back in Black is the seventh studio album by Australian rock band AC/DC. Produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, the album was released on 25 July 1980 by Albert Productions and Atlantic Records. By the late 1970s, AC/DC began to achieve significant popularity outside their native Australia, with high-energy live performances and a string of successful albums. In 1979, they paired with producer Lange and recorded their international breakthrough, Highway to Hell. Shortly before the recording of their follow-up, lead vocalist Bon Scott died after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. The group continued on with ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson.

Back in Black was recorded over seven weeks in the Bahamas in spring 1980. The area was hit by tropical storms at the time, making the sessions difficult at times. Johnson penned the album's lyrics and melodies, while guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young composed the music. Its musical content consists of hard rock-styled numbers with lyrics relating to sex, alcohol, partying and rock and roll. Lange demanded perfection in the band's recordings, particularly on Johnson's vocals. Following its completion, the group mixed Back in Black at Electric Lady Studios in New York City. The album's all-black cover was designed as a "sign of mourning" for Scott.

Dear Evan Hansen

Dear Evan Hansen is an original musical written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, with book by Steven Levenson. The musical had its world premiere at Arena Stage in July 2015.

Background and development

Dear Evan Hansen is a recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award. The musical has its origins in an incident that took place during Pasek's high school years. The musical "takes the notion of a teenager, ... Evan Hansen, who invents an important role for himself in a tragedy that he did not earn."

Productions

Dear Evan Hansen premiered at Washington, DC's Arena Stage, running from July 10 to August 23, 2015. The musical was directed by Michael Greif with orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. The cast featured Ben Platt in the title role, a high school senior with social anxiety disorder who finds himself amid the turmoil that follows a classmate's suicide.

Pitch Perfect

Pitch Perfect is a 2012 American musical comedy film directed by Jason Moore. It features an ensemble cast, including Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Hana Mae Lee, Adam DeVine, Ben Platt, John Michael Higgins, and Elizabeth Banks. The plot follows Barden University's all-girl a cappella group, The Barden Bellas, as they compete against another a cappella group from their college to win Nationals. The film is loosely adapted from Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book, titled Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory. Filming concluded in December 2011, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The film premiered in Los Angeles on September 24, 2012. Released on September 28, 2012 in the United States, the film received positive reviews from critics. It became a sleeper hit and earned over $115 million worldwide, becoming the second highest-grossing music comedy film of all time behind School of Rock. A sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, was released on May 15, 2015 and was more financially successful than its predecessor, earning over $286 million worldwide and beating the record set by School of Rock as the highest grossing music comedy of all time. Another sequel, Pitch Perfect 3 was confirmed on June 10, 2015 and is set to be released on August 4, 2017.
