William Shakespeare (/ˈʃeɪkspɪər/;26 April 1564 (baptised) – 23 April 1616) was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet, and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of approximately 38 plays,154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.
Shakespeare was born and brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. Sometime between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men. He appears to have retired to Stratford around 1613, at age 49, where he died three years later. Few records of Shakespeare's private life survive, which has stimulated considerable speculation about such matters as his physical appearance, sexuality, and religious beliefs, and whether the works attributed to him were written by others.

Genres: Comedy, Family, Fantasy, Musical, Short,The historical records concerning William Shakespeare’s life reveal many strange paradoxes. While the records from the theatrical world in London show that he worked as an actor and playwright, the contemporary documentation from Stratford-upon-Avon reveals no theatrical or literary interests of any kind. No record exists of Shakespeare receiving an education, buying a single book or writing poems or plays. Over the years this enigma has led to speculation that Shakespeare was not the author of the plays attributed to him. Various candidates have been proposed as the “real” author, such as the English statesman Francis Bacon and the earls of Oxford and Derby, whom it has been speculated used Shakespeare as a frontman as they wished for various reasons to remain anonymous. The only pro...

To Be Or Not To Be - A soliloquy from William Shakespeare's play 'Hamlet'. To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep; No more; and, by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flash is heir to, tis a consummation Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep; To sleep erchance to dream:ay, there's the rub; For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause. There's the respect That makes calamity of so long life; For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, The pangs of disprized love, the law's delay, The insolence of office, ...

A Fairy Song - A poem by William Shakespeare. Over hill, over dale, Thorough bush, thorough brier, Over park, over pale, Thorough flood, thorough fire! I do wander everywhere, Swifter than the moon's sphere; And I serve the Fairy Queen, To dew her orbs upon the green; The cowslips tall her pensioners be; In their gold coats spots you see; Those be rubies, fairy favours; In those freckles live their savours; I must go seek some dewdrops here, And hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear. All The World's A Stage - Monologue from William Shakespeare's play 'As You Like It' All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms. Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like snail Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard, Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel, Seeking the bubble reputation Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice, In fair round belly with good capon lined, With eyes severe and beard of ...

This is part of an entertainment at the end of the comedy 'Love's Labour's Lost'. It follows a corresponding poem describing spring, and paints a vivid picture of the effects of winter on human life in Europe. Each line adds a detail which builds up the impression of cold, and the warmth used by men to resist it. About the author- William Shakespeare (baptised 26 April 1564; died 23 April 1616) was ...

Antony and Cleopatra is a tragedy by William Shakespeare. The play was performed first circa 1607 at the Blackfriars Theatre or the Globe Theatre by the King's Men. Its first appearance in print was in the Folio of 1623. Many consider Shakespeare's Cleopatra, whom the playwright described as having "infinite variety," as one of the most complex and fully developed female characters in his entire body of work. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE is the most celebrated and most read poet and dramatist in history, but his personal life and artistic life is a mystery. How did he obtain the extensive learning and experience displayed in his works? When were his plays written and why were his works so often pirated by printers? Although publicly lauded during his lifetime, why was Shakespeare's death not noticed by those in the literary world near the time that it had occurred? These are only a few problems that the Shakespeare professor cannot answer definitively after two centuries of scholarship. Much contemporary evidence, however, is available that can shed light on many of these problems -- evidence that gets ignored because it does not fit the experts' picture of Shakespeare. This evidence overwhelmingly ind...
