Public Enemy is an American hip hop group consisting of Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, Khari Wynn, CJ Lord, and the S1W group. Formed on Long Island, New York in 1982, they are known for their politically charged music and criticism of the American media, with an active interest in the frustrations and concerns of the African American community. They remain one of the most critically acclaimed bands in history. Their first four albums during the late 1980s and early 1990s were all certified either gold or platinum and were, according to music critic Robert Hilburn in 1998, "the most acclaimed body of work ever by a hip hop act."
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Public Enemy number 44 on its list of the Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, the highest ranking for a hip hop act. The group was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007. The band were announced as inductees for the 2013 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on December 11, 2012, making them the fourth hip-hop act to be inducted.

Fight the Power From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Fight the Power" is a 1989 song by hip hop group Public Enemy. First released on the soundtrack for the film Do the Right Thing (Rosie Perez dances to the song over the opening credits), an edited version was released in 1990 on Public Enemy's third album, Fear of a Black Planet. The song has largely served as the political statement of purpose for the group, and is their biggest single. "Fight the Power" was recently ranked #1 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop, further demonstrating the impact of the song.[1] The single reached #1 on Hot Rap Singles and #20 on the Hot R&B; Singles. Another version is featured in the Chuck D Presents: Louder than a Bomb compilation, featuring a saxophone solo by Branford Marsalis. Brian Hardg...

First you could only enter the event if you had the car. Later they made it free try, but changing it to free try also brought some problems along. Me (p. 4) and Driver ASL (Driver R p. 1) got placed on the cheaterboard because we participated in the event with our own MAX PRO cars at the same moment when Gameloft changed it to: Free try, stock vehicle. The album was considerably darker but much more technical and progressive than Anthrax's previous work. This made it a hit with metalheads who were afraid to embrace the band because of their "silly" side. The biggest single off the album was a cover of Joe Jackson's "Got the Time". Jackson himself even claimed that he enjoyed Anthrax's cover version of his song.[citation needed] The band's own original song "In My World" as well as "Belly of the Beast" were extremely and moderately successful, respectively. In music, they don't come much more legendary, influential or essential than Public Enemy. As they stepped off stage from an explosive set at Kendal Calling festival 2013, we caught up with Chuck D and Flavor Flav to talk about their long-lasting legacy, the impact of the internet, the future of 'real hip hop' and what they thought about Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail app. Musing over Jay Z using an app to connect with his fans, Chuck D told Gigwise that he thought his thinking was slightly outdated and 'corporate'. "Public Enemy has always been doing innovative things because we have always been the kings of the indepedent movement, so we always try to find innovative ways to get it to the people," said Chuck D. "Not knocking Jay Z, but you have to have a reason why you did it. I thin...

Chorus:
What you read is what you saw
And what you keep is what you saw
And what the people want to know
Is who's gonna cast the thrown
What you got is what they want
And what they see they say they need
And people bleeding from the...
Now who's gonna cast the thrown?
Thrown at, thrown under
Throw to the side, thrown up the... we're throwing down
Thrown under the bus drag and underground
Power to the people salute the underground
Against those standards and mansions
Spitting down at us from up the higher ground
See the people, strike the power, face the poor...
In God we trust all money, this is slap in the face
To the rest of all human race!
Host hold your...
Change your name, but you can't change race n the United States
People say they're kings, but say they're queens
If we all gonna eat, what does it all mean?
We watch and listen, but I leave it alone
But who's gonna catch the thrown?
Chorus:
What you read is what you saw
And what you keep is what you saw
And what the people want to know
Is who's gonna cast the thrown
What you got is what they want
And what they see they say they need
And people bleeding from the...
Now who's gonna cast the thrown?
Divide and conquer, the oldest trick in the game
Is the war between the people who are really the same
As the rich people get richer, the poor get bitchie
The people keep kissing, the feds don't listen
This recession seen a black depression
Since your wasting in a nation heading for desperation
No quarter back is sat on a couch
Inside the black America is ouch!
Government still love you and President the executions
End up looking like some final solutions
Murder is the institution backed up and hacked up
Buy some hand written constitution.
Do what you do! Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Hebrew
You're all what you do, I'll be seeing human beings...
Yet never have so many but screwed up some few!
We watch the kings and queens and what they owe
But who's gonna catch the thrown?
(There's a man going round, take your...)
... designed to incriminate...
Equality is a myth!
They had me in jail for a crime I didn't even commit!
The stereo type
They feel every color is a failure right?
Brothers who resist I consider a threat
From Sitting Bull to Malcolm X
In the land of free I suspect elections
John Kennedy had the mob connections
President Reagan sold guns to Iraq
Yet they're trying to say the criminals are all black!
What's up with these corrupt politicians?
Them drugs they be shipping, but they never go to prison
And a fucked up system that they never tried to back me
Fuck gentlemen, guilty, clearly!
Chorus:
Cast the thrown, you gotta test the fire
Is that the one per cent that you need, or...
Cast the thrown, I gotta test the fire
Is that the one per cent that you want?
You gotta occupy!
(There's a man going round, take your...)
Free the... prisoners, they ain't listening
... but who is that whistling?
Foes making the killing and juxtapose against those giving a living
Give me something, cause... be official
Is the need to... replace by the greed
I ain't trying to yell at you or sell you
... they already...
And I'll be... to you, did I mention?
The cheapest price is to pay attention
Now the chess is just being at your best
Without you can hold your own
Fuck! Who's gonna catch the thrown?
Chorus:
What you read is what you saw
And what you keep is what you saw
And what the people want to know
