Typhoon Haiyan, known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, was one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded, which devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, on November 8, 2013. It is the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, killing at least 6,300 people in that country alone. Haiyan is also the strongest storm recorded at landfall. As of January 2014, bodies were still being found.
The thirtieth named storm of the 2013 Pacific typhoon season, Haiyan originated from an area of low pressure several hundred kilometers east-southeast of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia on November 2, 2013. Tracking generally westward, environmental conditions favored tropical cyclogenesis and the system developed into a tropical depression the following day. After becoming a tropical storm and attaining the name Haiyan at 0000 UTC on November 4, the system began a period of rapid intensification that brought it to typhoon intensity by 1800 UTC on November 5. By November 6, the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre (JTWC) assessed the system as a Category 5-equivalent super typhoon on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale; the storm passed over the island of Kayangel in Palau shortly after attaining this strength.
One of the Deadliest Typhoon | Haiyan Documentary | Geographic TV. It was the strongest cyclone to hit land in recorded history. On November 8, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the Philippines, whipping the low-lying and densely-populated islands with 200 mph winds and sending a two-story-high storm surge flooding into homes, schools, and hospitals. It wiped villages off the map and devastated cities, including the hard-hit provincial capital Tacloban. Estimates count more than 5,000 dead and millions homeless. What made Haiyan so destructive? Meteorologists charged with tracking Pacific storms reveal why the Pacific is such fertile ground for cyclones, and film crew documents how conditions dramatically deteriorated in the storm’s aftermath, as impassable roads and shuttered gas statio...

Aid worker Nickson Gensis was on the island as the storm approached and managed to capture the moment that houses were washed away, whilst taking refuge on the top floor of a boarding house. While much of the boarding house he was in was flooded and destroyed, he managed to escape and was delivering aid to survivors as soon as the winds subsided. The Philippines is facing an enormous rebuilding task from Typhoon Haiyan, which killed at least 3,974 people and left 1,186 missing, with many isolated communities yet to receive significant aid despite a massive international relief effort. http://www.rappler.com/video/43515-yolanda-eastern-samar-victims-help In towns without cellphone connections after super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), residents often break down because of one question: "Anong panawagan ninyo?" (What do you want to appeal for?) Typhoon survivors want to assure relatives they're safe, or to tell them a family member died because of Yolanda's fury. Most of them simply request food and water -- and Filipinos ready to help. Rappler's Paterno Esmaquel and Franz Lopez interview Yolanda survivors in Hernani, Eastern Samar.

Thank God the city of Iloilo was spared from super typhoon Yolanda's (Haiyan) wrath. Iloilo City wasn't forecasted to receive a direct hit but expected to be battered by strong winds and rain. As of today November 11 the death toll in Iloilo alone was still uncertain of the exact count. This video footage was recorded on November 7 & 8, 2013 in Iloilo City.
