A London theatre break, or sightseeing in one of the most vibrant cities in the world, can change your perspective on life. Visit London Museums There is so much to see and do in London that it would take a long time to exhaust the possibilities. You could spend years visiting London and still be a first time visitor to some park, garden, museum or theatre on each visit. There are well over 200 museums in London, some specialising in such diverse themes as clocks, football or Florence Nightingale. There are other museums that are housed in buildings that are inspirational, like the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington. There is a museum for everybody and many of the them are free to enter. Visit London Theatres Over 50 West End theatres will cater for every taste from popular musicals like The Phantom of the Opera, or the Lion King, to a comedy version of The 39 Steps. There are serious plays and comedy farce, satire and the burlesque. Theatreland, as it is often called, has been entertaining Londoners and visitors since the seventeenth century. And there seems to be an increasing attraction to the London theatre regardless of the state of the economy. Over 13 million people visit the London theatre annually, and the number is set to rise. People know where they can get value for money. In recent years many American and British film and television stars have also featured on the London stage, which has helped to stir the interest of theatre goers. Visit London Parks and Gardens While a visit to the theatre may be an occasional treat, there are many things in London that you can do for free. Many of the big museums and art galleries like the British Museum, The Tate Modern, The National Art Gallery and the museums in South Kensington and more, are free to enter. It is estimated that up to twenty per cent of London is parks and gardens. Some of the bigger parks like Hyde Park, St James Park and Regents Park, are bustling with visitors. Other small gardens may be an oasis of tranquility even in the middle of London. The Riverside Walk Gardens near Vauxhall Bridge is the home to a famous Henry Moore sculpture, "The Locking Piece". There are many small gardens in the London "Squares" which provide a great place to sit down for a while and rest your feet. Visit London Markets Get a real insight into London and Londoners by listening to the sales patter from the vendors, or simply go people-watching, at one of London's many street markets. You can go to Portobello Road, world famous for its antiques, or Brick Lane, where hundreds of stalls sell hundreds of different items. At Camden Lock you will find arts and crafts, and at Petticoat Lane, fashion goods. There are about 20 major street markets in London and it is here that you will see a multi-faceted, cosmopolitan London, for free. Be Sure To Plan Your Trip There is so much to get through when you visit London for a short break that it is important to plan you trip. Check the Internet, decide what attractions you want to see, and check out the hotels that are in the best location for you. Buy a couple of books that will will give you more background and information so that you can read up on the subject before you arrive. Maybe a London Pass will benefit you especially as you can prepay and avoid queues. Be prepared to walk for more hours in a day than you have done in a long time.
