Historic video footage of the worlds funnest information minister with claims the US military was defeated by the Iraqi military led by former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein. The Iraqi Army is the ground force component of the armed forces of the Republic of Iraq, having been active in various incarnations throughout the 20th century and 21st century. The Iraqi Army in its modern form was first created by the United Kingdom during the inter-war period of de facto British control of Mandatory Iraq. Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi Army was rebuilt along American lines with enormous amounts of U.S. military assistance at every level. Because of the Iraqi insurgency that began shortly after the invasion, the Iraqi Army was designed to initially be a counter-insurgency force.[3]...

Iraq's military says government forces liberated the strategic city of Ramadi from ISIS. CNN's Nima Elbagir reports.
Ruptly will provide LIVE from the outskirts of Fallujah on Tuesday, May 31, as Iraqi armed forces attempt to advance into the city, which was captured by the so-called Islamic State [IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL] in 2014. The military forces of the Iraqi government initially launched the operation to retake the IS-held city of Fallujah on May 23, following an announcement by the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi. Fallujah, about 40 miles (78 km) west of Baghdad, was the first Iraqi city to be taken by IS in January 2014. Up to 75,000 civilians have been trapped inside the city, caught between the IS and armed forces, including the Iraqi army and allied militias. Iraqi security forces repeated calls for civilians in Fallujah to flee on May 22, but locals say they have been unable to escape. De...

Iraq's Prime Minister says government forces and their allies will retake control of Mosul by the end of the year. It's been an effective summer for Iraqi forces battling ISIL. Now, they're fighting to retake Iraq's second biggest city - Mosul - which has been under ISIL control for more than two years. The Iraqi army, Kurdish forces, Shia militias and the US air force are all converging on the city from different directions. Iraqi soldiers re-took Qayara on Saturday. It's an oil-producing town that's about 70 kilometres south of Mosul, and near a major air base. The Iraqi army had been fighting for control of Qayara for several weeks. Now, Prime Minister Haider al Abadi says Mosul will be captured by the end of the year. So, how ready are government forces? and what does the off...
In 2014, Islamic State militants swept into Western Iraq's Anbar Province, overrunning Iraqi security forces, enslaving minorities, and causing thousands to flee for their lives. The jihadist group captured Iraq’s largest city, Mosul, and the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah, where hundreds of US troops died fighting the Islamic State’s predecessor. Now, two years later, the Iraqi security forces, with help from Iranian-supported Shiite militias and US military advisors and warplanes, are fighting to take back towns and cities in Anbar, one battle at a time. But it’s a difficult task: Anbar has been the crucible of Iraq’s insurgency, and is the country’s Sunni heartland — long marginalized by and hostile to the Shiite-led government in Baghdad. VICE News embedded with Iraq’s Golden Di...
EXCLUSIVE: VICE News Meets Barack Obama: http://bit.ly/1wT03Bi Last summer, the group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) swept from Syria into northern Iraq, routing Iraqi security forces and seizing the city of Mosul. Soon afterward, the group declared the establishment of a dubious "caliphate" in the area it controls and rebranded itself the Islamic State. With Iraq's army weakened and radical militants advancing on Baghdad, the country's Iran-backed Shia militias — which have their own history of sectarian abuses — fought back, halting the Islamic State's progress. The militias have successfully combated Islamic State fighters on the ground with the assistance of air strikes from a US-led military coalition. But their growing influence within Iraq's government amid acc...

Dismantling Iraqi army "Huge U.S. Strategic Mistake" Expert Published on Feb 1, 2015 The rise of the so-called Islamic State (IS) in vast swathes of territories in Syria and Iraq, and the US-led military response to it, have introduced another complex dimension to an oil-rich but already very volatile Middle East. The old correlation of forces in support of maintaining the status quo, especially following the Iranian revolution more than 35 years ago, has been changing. A set of new alignments and realignments along multiple regional fault-lines, including sectarian divisions and geopolitical rivalries at different levels, has come to redefine the region and possibly change its traditional political and territorial contours. IS has confronted all the regional states, from the Islamic Rep...
