Añado la película otra vez pero con doblaje español (España).
" Carretera al Infierno " es una road movie con tintes de thriller y suspense protagonizado por C.Thomas Howell, Rutger Hauer, Jennifer Jason Leigh y Jeffrey DeMunn.
En la época de su estreno no tuvo un gran éxito, aunque recaudó unos generosos 5,844,868 dólares teniendo en cuenta que costó 6 millones de dólares, y se convertiría en una película de culto con el paso del tiempo.
" Carretera al Infierno " marca el debut cinematográfico del director Robert Harmon tras haber realizado previamente el cortometraje "China Lake " (el cual tiene puntos en común con el popular filme) y el guión lo escribe Eric Red, guionista de " Acero Azul ", " Cohen y Tate " o " Los Viajeros de la Noche " (cuyo comienzo recuerda enormemente a la escena inicial del filme de Robert Harmon).
" Carretera al Infierno " tiene una innombrable secuela en 2003 directa al mercado doméstico y un remake realizado por Dave Meyers en 2007.
Lo mejor de la película original de 1986 es la excelente interpretación de Rutger Hauer, ya que eclipsa a C. Thomas Howell cada vez que aparece en pantalla. También es notable por su ambientación de claustrofobia e incomodidad a pesar de transcurrir en espacios abiertos (y en lugares cerrados, como un bar de carretera, una comisaría, un motel, un garaje, etc).
" Carretera al Infierno " sigue siendo la mejor película que ha realizado Robert Harmon y será recordado únicamente por ella debido a que su carrera posterior ha sido irregular (" Sin Aliento " fue un fallido intento de repetir la fórmula de su añorada obra maestra).
Algunas curiosidades de la película ( SPOILER se cuentan partes de la trama de la película):
- El guión original era más largo y abarcaba 3 horas de duración.
- Entre las escenas que no se filmaron del guión original estaban:
John Ryder asesinando a una familia.
Un ojo en una hamburguesa (en la versión filmada se sustituyó por un dedo en unas patatas fritas servidas en un plato)
Una escena de sexo entre 'Gal' Galveston (el nombre de la chica sería reemplazado por Nash en la versión filmada) y Jim Halsey,
La decapitación de un personaje.
Todas esas escenas se eliminaron tras numerosas reescrituras del guión para eliminar su contenido sangriento.
- Los ejecutivos del estudio quisieron alterar la muerte de Nash para reducir su contenido violento en dicho acto de asesinato, ya que pensaron que iba más allá del límite de la película. Robert Harmon y los productores se negaron a hacer dichos cambios y se mantuvieron firmes en su decisión de mantener la incomodidad violenta de la escena, la cual se rodó finalmente (aunque no se filmó con sangre)
- Eric Red escribió el guión de la película al inspirarse en la canción ¨ Riders on the Storm ¨ del grupo de música the Doors.
- La escopeta que John Ryder utiliza en su enfrentamiento final contra Jim Halsey es el modelo automático de combate SPAS-12.
- C.Thomas Howell admitió que tuvo miedo de Rutger Hauer debido a la intensidad de su interpretación, algo que hizo también durante la filmación y en los descansos habituales mientras no rodaban.
- Sam Elliot y Terence Stamp fueron considerados para el papel de John Ryder, pero ambos lo rechazaron y el rol iría a parar a Rutger Hauer.
- Rutger Hauer realizó la mayoría de las escenas arriesgadas con los coches que conduce durante la mayor parte de la película sin doble alguno, algo que asombró al equipo de filmación de la película y a los especialistas que conducían los vehículos.
- Rutger Hauer declaró en el programa de David Letterman que el final original de la película iba a mostrar a Jim Halsey disparando con la escopeta a John Ryder mientras yacía en el suelo de la carretera, tras ser atropellado por el coche que conducía Halsey.
Pero los productores temían que la MPAA (Motion Pictures Association of América) certificara la cinta con una clasificación X por su extrema violencia, así que en su lugar se decidió rodar el final ya conocido.
- Jennifer Jason Leigh aceptó intervenir en la película porque le encantó el personaje de Nash y quería trabajar otra vez con Rutger Hauer, ya que les unía una gran amistad tras rodar juntos en España ¨ Los Señores del Acero ¨ (1985) de Paul Verhoeven.
- Su rodaje tuvo lugar en escenas grabadas en estudio y en exteriores de Amboy, Barstow, el Parque Nacional del Valle de la Muerte, Condado de Imperial (todas estas localizaciones en California) y en la presa Hoover de Nevada.
- C. Thomas Howell contaba con 18 años en el momento del rodaje, mientras que Jennifer Jason Leigh tenía 23 años.
- Antes de interpretar " Carretera al Infierno ", C. Thomas Howell se hizo famoso por su papel de Ponyboy Michael Curtis en " Rebeldes " (1983) del realizador Francis Ford Coppola y fue su segunda película, ya que debutó en el cine en " E.T: El extraterreste " (1982) de Steven Spielberg.

Sam Coppola
Sam Coppola (July 31, 1932 – February 5, 2012) was an American actor. He appeared in almost 70 films, beginning in 1968, but may be best remembered for his role as Dan Fusco, owner of the Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, hardware and paint store, in Saturday Night Fever, who gave John Travolta's character sage but salty advice in the classic 1977 film. Later in his career, Coppola made a brief but memorable appearance on The Sopranos as the idiosyncratic family therapist of Jennifer Melfi.
Coppola was a cop in Serpico (1973), starring Al Pacino, and a detective in Fatal Attraction (1987), starring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close. His many TV credits include The Practice, The Good Wife, Law & Order, The Sopranos, Ryan's Hope and the 2001 A&E movie The Big Heist, in which he portrayed mob boss Paul Castellano. Coppola, no relation to film director Francis Ford Coppola, played a nursing home resident in a Chevy commercial that aired during 2011's Super Bowl and a hot dog vendor in a Ball Park Franks spot starring Michael Jordan.

Working as a photographer since 1975, Lacombe has documented productions by Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Spike Jonze, David Mamet, Michael Haneke, Sam Mendes, Sofia Coppola and many other greats. Capturing dazzlingly intimate moments in her portraits as well as the true colors of the film set in her stills, Lacombe’s work depends on a complex understanding of the film world as a unique habitat of coherent connections, powers and energies. This year a member of the Berlinale Jury, Lacombe joins Talents for a photographic travelogue of her work on sets, her choice of subjects and how she literally sees other people. In case you care, this video represents a production shift for MDE. Previously, all our work was finished in After Effects. The edits were done in Premiere, but after a certain point, the entire project was imported into AE, and never taken back into Premiere. AE provides more precise control and yields itself to perfectionism, which is why we did it this way, while Premiere is a much more immediate-but-sloppy kinda deal.
Out of frustration with this slow method of post-production, I decided to keep Southland Extreme Interviews a Premiere project from beginning to end. Instead of taking several weeks of pain, the color correction, edit-tightening, and graphics phase only took three days. And it wouldn't've looked much better if we did it the old way, anyway. Nice :D
I guess that's it. Go buy TWAT.

Ever Elusive, 'Gatsby' Evades Hollywood's Grasp
F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" is short, almost novella size. It features larger-than-life characters, glamorous extravagance and dramatic demises. On its surface, it's the most Hollywood-friendly of the great American novels.
But "Gatsby" remains elusive, its poetry largely locked on the page despite a century of attempted adaptations. Since it was published (to an initially cold response) in 1925, it has spawned four previous films (including a 1926 silent movie that's since been lost) and numerous stage productions. The folly of transferring the novel to other media was even parodied in an 8-bit Nintendo-style video game where Nick Carraway must evade cocktail-dispensing butlers and Charleston-dancing flappers.
On Friday, Baz Luhrmann tosses his garish hat into the "Gatsby" ring. His is a 3-D blockbuster spectacle with a star-studded cast (Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan) and a contemporary soundtrack (Jay-Z, Jack White) that hopes to finally crack the cinematic code of Fitzgerald's novel.
"Whether we made the right choices or the wrong choices, we didn't make any flippant choices," says Luhrmann, the director of "Moulin Rouge" and "Romeo and Juliet."

All great novels have their own impossibilities of being captured on the big screen, but "Gatsby" poses particular challenges because of its amorphous beauty. The character of Jay Gatsby is deliberately vague (even Fitzgerald later wondered to his editor Max Perkins if he should have fleshed him out more). Daisy, too, is idealized all out of proportion. The book isn't a chronicle of happenings, but the lyrical, written-down reflections of Carraway, the narrator: It's in the telling, not the tale.
The adaptations of "Gatsby" have left, if not quite a "foul dust" in their wake, then certainly a legacy of disappointment.
All that's left of the first film, starring Warner Baxter and directed by Herbert Brenon for Paramount Pictures, is the trailer, which can be found on YouTube. In her letters, Zelda Fitzgerald reportedly pronounced the film, based on an early Broadway production, "rotten."
The 1949 "Gatsby," starring Alan Ladd, may be the most lamentable version. It opened with Carraway and Daisy visiting Gatsby's grave and concluded with Gatsby, shortly before his end, exuberantly promising rehabilitation in dated lingo: "I'm going to pay up, Nick. I'm going to square myself."
The 1974 film, produced by Robert Evans and starring Robert Redford, is almost universally described as lifeless. The 2000 made-for-TV "Gatsby" starring Toby Stephens and Mira Sorvino, is perhaps best left unmentioned.
Jackson Bryer, president of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Society and editor of the Library of Congress collection of Fitzgerald, says making a movie of "Gatsby" is like "adapting a poem."
"Part of the beauty of the novel is that he doesn't tell you much about anybody," says Bryer, professor emeritus of English at the University of Maryland. "Once you particularize it by making it Robert Redford or Leonardo DiCaprio, you're limiting it."
In need of more specificity than Fitzgerald's book could provide, Luhrmann and his frequent screenwriter, Craig Pearce, went looking elsewhere to fill in details.
Luhrmann even had help from Francis Ford Coppola, who (after Truman Capote's draft was tossed out) penned the 1974 film, which also starred Sam Watterson as Carraway and Mia Farrow as Daisy. Coppola has said he was shocked to find almost no dialogue between Daisy and Gatsby in the book, so he delved into Fitzgerald's short stories to find the language for a six-page scene of the two talking through the night.
Coppola shared unused scenes with Luhrmann and encouraged him to dig into Fitzgerald's other writings.
"He was the one who said to me: Go to other Fitzgerald texts and look for clues," says Luhrmann. "Because Francis encouraged me to do that, we came upon the idea of the sanatorium."

Ever Elusive, 'Gatsby' Evades Hollywood's Grasp
F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" is short, almost novella size. It features larger-than-life characters, glamorous extravagance and dramatic demises. On its surface, it's the most Hollywood-friendly of the great American novels.
But "Gatsby" remains elusive, its poetry largely locked on the page despite a century of attempted adaptations. Since it was published (to an initially cold response) in 1925, it has spawned four previous films (including a 1926 silent movie that's since been lost) and numerous stage productions. The folly of transferring the novel to other media was even parodied in an 8-bit Nintendo-style video game where Nick Carraway must evade cocktail-dispensing butlers and Charleston-dancing flappers.
On Friday, Baz Luhrmann tosses his garish hat into the "Gatsby" ring. His is a 3-D blockbuster spectacle with a star-studded cast (Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan) and a contemporary soundtrack (Jay-Z, Jack White) that hopes to finally crack the cinematic code of Fitzgerald's novel.
"Whether we made the right choices or the wrong choices, we didn't make any flippant choices," says Luhrmann, the director of "Moulin Rouge" and "Romeo and Juliet."

All great novels have their own impossibilities of being captured on the big screen, but "Gatsby" poses particular challenges because of its amorphous beauty. The character of Jay Gatsby is deliberately vague (even Fitzgerald later wondered to his editor Max Perkins if he should have fleshed him out more). Daisy, too, is idealized all out of proportion. The book isn't a chronicle of happenings, but the lyrical, written-down reflections of Carraway, the narrator: It's in the telling, not the tale.
The adaptations of "Gatsby" have left, if not quite a "foul dust" in their wake, then certainly a legacy of disappointment.
All that's left of the first film, starring Warner Baxter and directed by Herbert Brenon for Paramount Pictures, is the trailer, which can be found on YouTube. In her letters, Zelda Fitzgerald reportedly pronounced the film, based on an early Broadway production, "rotten."
The 1949 "Gatsby," starring Alan Ladd, may be the most lamentable version. It opened with Carraway and Daisy visiting Gatsby's grave and concluded with Gatsby, shortly before his end, exuberantly promising rehabilitation in dated lingo: "I'm going to pay up, Nick. I'm going to square myself."
The 1974 film, produced by Robert Evans and starring Robert Redford, is almost universally described as lifeless. The 2000 made-for-TV "Gatsby" starring Toby Stephens and Mira Sorvino, is perhaps best left unmentioned.
Jackson Bryer, president of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Society and editor of the Library of Congress collection of Fitzgerald, says making a movie of "Gatsby" is like "adapting a poem."
"Part of the beauty of the novel is that he doesn't tell you much about anybody," says Bryer, professor emeritus of English at the University of Maryland. "Once you particularize it by making it Robert Redford or Leonardo DiCaprio, you're limiting it."
In need of more specificity than Fitzgerald's book could provide, Luhrmann and his frequent screenwriter, Craig Pearce, went looking elsewhere to fill in details.
Luhrmann even had help from Francis Ford Coppola, who (after Truman Capote's draft was tossed out) penned the 1974 film, which also starred Sam Watterson as Carraway and Mia Farrow as Daisy. Coppola has said he was shocked to find almost no dialogue between Daisy and Gatsby in the book, so he delved into Fitzgerald's short stories to find the language for a six-page scene of the two talking through the night.
Coppola shared unused scenes with Luhrmann and encouraged him to dig into Fitzgerald's other writings.
"He was the one who said to me: Go to other Fitzgerald texts and look for clues," says Luhrmann. "Because Francis encouraged me to do that, we came upon the idea of the sanatorium."
