Rover (The Prisoner)

Rover is a fictional entity from the 1967 British television program The Prisoner, and was an integral part of the way 'prisoners' were kept within The Village. It was depicted as a floating white ball that could coerce, and, if necessary, disable inhabitants of The Village, primarily Number Six. In one incident, it even killed a person, but it is not clear whether the ability to kill was a normal feature of Rover or if this incident was a malfunction. Several aspects of the Rover device were not explained, presumably left to the imagination/speculation of the viewer.

In the novel The Prisoner: Number Two by David McDaniel, based upon the series, the name Guardian was used instead of Rover.

Portrayal

Description

Rover was depicted as a large white inflatable balloon, not quite fully inflated, with a flexible skin. Rover would often produce a muffled roar sound when attacking. It would also sometimes emit a strange light display / luminescence from its interior. Once released, Rover could bounce and glide across the land and sea for a long range and at high speed, faster than a vehicle or boat.

The Rover (story paper)

The Rover was a British boys' story paper which started in 1922. It absorbed Adventure in 1961 and The Wizard in 1963, and eventually folded in 1973.

It included characters such as Alf Tupper and Matt Braddock, early examples of the "working class hero".

Hoodie (Lady Sovereign song)

"Hoodie" is the fourth single from hip hop artist Lady Sovereign's debut album Public Warning, following the release of her first UK top 40 hit, "9 to 5". The single was produced by UK dance outfit Basement Jaxx and became her third top 75 hit, peaking at #44 in the UK Singles Chart. The single's B-side was her debut 12" single "Ch Ching (Cheque 1 2)".

Channel U soon became impressed with her song and became her second #1 hit on the Channel U Airplay Chart for a single week after the success of her debut Random.

The single was recorded to coincide with her "Save the Hoodie" campaign. Lady Sovereign wrote the single as she was angry that individuals wearing hoodies were being persecuted against due to people stating that they created social fear . Lady Sovereign stated at the time, "I'm all about standing up for the hoodie. They wanna have a moan about people that wear them, but I wear them all the time and I don't like the way some other people dress" .

Lady Sovereign references the Three stripes trademark of Adidas in the song.

Hooded crow

The hooded crow (Corvus cornix) (also called hoodie) is a Eurasian bird species in the Corvus genus. Widely distributed, it is also known locally as Scotch crow, Danish crow, and grey crow (in Slavic languages, Ireland and Denmark). Found across Northern, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, as well as parts of the Middle East, it is an ashy grey bird with black head, throat, wings, tail, and thigh feathers, as well as a black bill, eyes, and feet. Like other corvids, it is an omnivorous and opportunistic forager and feeder.

It is so similar in morphology and habits to the carrion crow (Corvus corone), for many years they were considered by most authorities to be geographical races of one species. Hybridization observed where their ranges overlapped added weight to this view. However, since 2002, the hooded crow has been elevated to full species status after closer observation; the hybridisation was less than expected and hybrids had decreased vigour. Within the hooded crow species, four subspecies are recognized, with one, the Mesopotamian crow, possibly distinct enough to warrant species status itself.
