Day 1 of a 4 day portage.
Starting location was from Rock Lake access point. An approximate 10 km trip for the first day with a 375m portage into Pen lake.
The first day was the easiest in comparison to the rest of the trip. I would say this leg of the trip is a good introduction for those who are looking to experience what portaging is all about. You'll definitely be rewarded with the effort you put in as you set up camp and enjoy quietness and the surrounding at Pen Lake.

Inconvénients de l'enveloppé-croisé:
- Nécessite une grande longueur d'écharpe de portage car il y a 2 couches de tissu minimum sur bébé
- Le tissu « plaque » bébé contre le corps du porteur
- Le nouage peut serrer les côtés du porteur
- Nouage moins agréable en été parce qu'il n'y a pas d'aération sur les côtés. On dit que c'est un nouage "peu respirant"

Porter votre bébé en Ventral dès 3 mois (aussi appelé "Ventre à Ventre Classique") est un portage symétrique sur le buste du porteur, dans lequel bébé est à portée de bisou.
Vers 3 - 4 mois, cette position respecte l'arrondi naturel du dos du bébé.
Cette position convient à un bébé qui regarde autours de lui et cherche à bouger et peut attraper ses chevilles lui même. Son bassin est désormais suffisamment mature pour permettre à bébé d'être porté avec ses jambes de part et d'autre du corps du porteur.
Bébé sera assis, les genoux remontés plus haut que son ventre, le visage non recouvert. Il pourra observer et aussi se reposer contre le porteur.
Cette position offre un agréable contact proche avec le bébé. Il permet au porteur d'avoir les mains libres.

Portage
Portage or portaging is the practice of carrying water craft or cargo over land, either around an obstacle in a river, or between two bodies of water. A place where this carrying occurs is also called a portage.
Early French explorers in New France and French Louisiana encountered many rapids and cascades. The Native Americans carried their canoes over land to avoid river obstacles.
Over time, important portages were sometimes provided with canals with locks, and even portage railways. Primitive portaging generally involves carrying the vessel and its contents across the portage in multiple trips. Small canoes can be portaged by carrying them inverted over one's shoulders and the center strut may be designed in the style of a yoke to facilitate this. Historically, voyageurs often employed tump lines on their heads to carry loads on their backs.
Portages can be many kilometers in length, such as the 19-kilometre (12 mi) Methye Portage and the 8.5-mile (13.7 km) Grand Portage (both in North America) often covering hilly or difficult terrain. Some portages involve very little elevation change, such as the very short Mavis Grind in Shetland, which crosses an isthmus.

Vers 3 - 4 mois, cette position respecte l'arrondi naturel du dos du bébé.
Cette position convient à un bébé qui regarde autours de lui et cherche à bouger et peut attraper ses chevilles lui même. Son bassin est désormais suffisamment mature pour permettre à bébé d'être porté avec ses jambes de part et d'autre du corps du porteur.
Bébé sera assis, les genoux remontés plus haut que son ventre, le visage non recouvert. Il pourra observer et aussi se reposer contre le porteur.
Cette position offre un agréable contact proche avec le bébé. Il permet au porteur d'avoir les mains libres.
