Dennis DeYoung (born February 18, 1947) is an American singer, songwriter, musician and producer best known for being a founding member of the rock band Styx as lead vocalist and keyboardist, a tenure that lasted from 1970 until June 1999. DeYoung has been credited as the writer of more Styx songs than any other Styx member.
Growing up in the Roseland area of Chicago, DeYoung started his career as a vocalist in 1961 at the age of 14 when he teamed up with his 13-year-old neighbors Chuck and John Panozzo in a three-piece combo. The trio later added guitarist James Young and John Curulewski to form the band Tradewinds in the late 1960s. The band renamed itself TW4 in 1968 before becoming Styx in 1970.
Before the band met with success, DeYoung spent time as an elementary school teacher in the southern suburbs of Chicago, where he taught music at a variety of schools. During this period, the band played a number of small venues and school auditoriums, refining their craft before the song "Lady" propelled them to national, then international, stardom.

Judy performs a Styx/Sondheim medley during her cabaret act at the now defunct club Reno Sweeney in 1980. The first song is from the 1978 Styx album "The Grand Illusion" and the second is from the 1979 Broadway musical "Sweeney Todd," which Kaye later starred in. Judy Kaye busted onto the Broadway scene in 1978 when she replaced the brilliant but erratic Madeline Kahn in the original production of the musical "On The Twentieth Century." She's since been featured in nine more Broadway productions (including "Phantom Of The Opera" for which she won a Tony award) as well as countless other miscellaneous works. Her most recent credit was in the closing company of "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella." Recorded live from the sound system of club Reno Sweeney. Photo Credit: Unknown.

First of all let me start out by saying I was never a big Styx fan. Back when Styx, Supertramp, Kansas and those other big 80's bands were in their heyday, I was listening to Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. So when some friends came by to drag me along to see Dennis DeYoung (former vocalist and keyboard player for Styx), I had my doubts. But the price was right and I didn't have to drive so it sounded like it might be an entertaining way to spend an evening. Much to my suprise, Dennis DeYoung and his band put on a great show! He seems like a cool guy, had a bunch of witty banter between songs and the band was exceptionally tight. They pulled off an evening of Styx classics with a cool light show. The only thing missing from your classic 80's rock show was the drum solo, but that's OK, the r...

Dennis DeYoung, founding member of Styx, describes how an artist's weakness can become a strength.
In this clip from www.artistshousemusic.org - Dennis DeYoung is the former keyboardist and vocalist for Styx, with whom he had five top-ten albums in the 1970s and early 1980s. DeYoung was the writer of some of the bands most enduring hits, including Babe, Come Sail Away, Lady and Mr. Roboto. Since leaving Styx in the mid-1980s, he has released several successful solo albums, and continues to write, record and tour regularly. Print

These are the worst sailors ever. I would not blame Palom one bit for pretending to be seasick and then barfing on their shoes. Despite my griping about the random other stuff in this episode, I'm still looking forward to how it turns out. It was a long week of work and my body's schedule is way out of whack and the brain wasn't functioning and I was incabable of filtering my thoughts.

This is my family video from our 2015 cruise to Zeebrugge & Guernsey (N517) onboard P&O; Cruises M.V. Ventura. Superb weather and yet another amazing holiday. Nothing beats a cruise and the ports were good to us. This was out 2nd visit to Zeebrugge but after being rained off the 1st time we were treated to sunshine and joy exploring the town better than before. St Peter Port and Guernsey is such a beautiful place. Staying on the ship or getting off for an excursion it doesn't matter because you feel like your in the Mediterranean :) The Sail away was amazing again, however, I'm unable to upload it due to a copywrite ban hammer hitting me for the music played. Although it was a short break (4 nights) it was amazing all the same. Unknown at the time i actually booked another cruise just ...
The lyrics (poetry by Walt Whitman) will follow this.... "A Sea Symphony" is a powerful and moving work, with poetry by Walt Whitman set to stellar music by Vaughan Williams. It has a vast scope and a widescreen horizon. However, despite its scale this work is very personal to me. It begins with a literal celebration of the sea and the spirit of exploration and discovery, but soon sets sail for more metaphysical waters, taking the sea as a metaphor for the soul and that journey to Shakespeare's 'Undiscovered Country' that we must all take, one day. It is because of these themes that I have posted "A Sea Symphony" on my YouTube channel as a tribute to my father who died on Sat 5 May, 2012, and who served in the Royal Navy for nearly 20 years. Bon voyage, Dad xx IV. The Explorers "O vast R...

I'm sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
I've got to be free, free to face the life that's ahead of me
On board I'm the captain, so climb aboard
We'll look for tomorrow on every shore
But we'll try, oh Lord, we'll try
To carry on
I look to the sea, reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We lived happily forever, so the story goes
But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold
But we'll try, the best that we can to carry on
A gathering of angels appeared above our heads
They gave to us this song of hope, and this is what they said
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
