Bolivia (i/bəˈlɪviə/; Spanish: [boˈliβja]; Quechua: Buliwya [bʊlɪwja]; Aymara: Wuliwya [wʊlɪwja]; Guarani: Volívia [ʋoˈliʋja]), officially known as the Plurinational State of Bolivia (Spanish: Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia), is a landlocked country located in western-central South America. It is bordered to the north and east by Brazil, to the southeast by Paraguay, to the south by Argentina, to the southwest by Chile, and to the northwest by Peru. One-third of the country is the Andean mountain range, with its largest city and principal economic centers located in the Altiplano.
Before Spanish colonization, the Andean region of Bolivia was part of the Inca Empire, while the northern and eastern lowlands were inhabited by independent tribes. Spanish conquistadors arriving from Cuzco and Asunción took control of the region in the 16th century. During most of the Spanish colonial period, Bolivia was known as Upper Peru and administered by the Royal Court of Charcas. Spain built its empire in great part upon the silver that was extracted from Bolivia's mines.

This clip explores the relationship between the global free-trade economy and migration. It features the impact of free-trade policies on Jessy and Jaime's family business in Bolivia. As a result of economic collapse in Bolivia, due at least in part to globalization and free-trade policies, Jessy and Jamie — professional technical engineers by training — are forced to come to the United States and work as janitors in order to support their family. It's considered a reform that holds the potential to improve the quality of governance, but how has it performed in practice? Today I had the chance to catch up with my Bolivian friend Alejandro and ask him a bit about his home town, Santa Cruz de la Sierra. In this podcast, Alejandro talks about cruceños (people from Santa Cruz), Bolivian music, food and culture. Have a listen, and if you have any questions just leave them in the comments below.
Street food culture in Bolivia is highly complex and of profound social significance for the Bolivian people.
These are pictures I've collected in the country side of Santa Cruz in Bolivia, while working there. Gladis Moreno was one of the best voices of Bolivia, and a representative artist of great Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is a beautiful and peaceful place with great food and culture, with it's own music and dances. Welcome to Santa Cruz with its own beautiful landscapes and music!
This documentary film explores the Afro-Bolivian community, their history, culture and traditional Saya music the recent movement that uses this music to pursue their social and political needs.
The Bolivian group Los Masis have been playing traditional Andean music for more than 40 years. They are dedicated to the preservation of the indigenous Quechua language and culture. At the 2013 Smithsonian Folklife Festival they performed as part of the "One World, Many Voices" Program. a word from the artist… This collection of music is very special to me because it embodies the sounds of the folklore and spirit of my native country, Bolivia. Each one, in its own way, represents a certain aspect of the varied and widespread culture of the land. Personally, they speak to me because Bolivian traditions were always kept in our home. From traditional music, food and dancing, these customs were at the heart of family life. So, making this CD was a logical step in my musical journey as it is so much a part of me. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed discovering and playing this fantastically unique music. http://www.msrcd.com/catalog/cd/MS1546

Why a safe and healthy workplace is important: If a workplace is safe and healthy, everyone can get on with their work effectively and efficiently. In contrast, if a workplace is disorganized and full of hazards, process breakdowns injuries and sickness absences are inevitable. The pain and direct loss of earnings suffered by workers in these circumstances is often matched by reduced productivity at the enterprise. This animation created by the SCORE team in Bolivia illustrates 'SCORE Training Module 5: Safety and Health at Work: A platform for productivity.' This module aims to provide SME participants (both employees and managers) with the knowledge and understanding they need to create and benefit from a safety and health system tailored to the realities in the enterprise.
In 2009-2010, I organized four indigenous community health workshops in Bolivia with the objective of promoting dialogue between biomedical healthcare providers and traditional healers about frequently occurring health problems. The idea was for the two groups to reach consensus about the best ways for traditional healers to deal with these conditions in their communities that do not have immediate access to biomedical healthcare. In Bolivia, thousands of young people live on the street. We are playing a crucial role in meeting the sexual and reproductive health needs of young people who often face discrimination and cannot afford the cost of health services. In this video you will learn how our local partner, CIES, is empowering young people to make informed decisions about their well-being.
Through its mobile health units, our local partner—CIES—works to ensure all women, men, and young people living in remote areas of Bolivia are able to receive the sexual and reproductive health services they want, need, and deserve. Watch this video to learn more about the health care needs of women in Bolivia and how CIES empowers them with information, family planning, and cervical cancer screenings.

https://www.expedia.com/Bolivia.d21.Destination-Travel-Guides Bolivia, a landlocked South American country, holds the promise of discovery for adventurous souls. While pretty Sucre, “La Ciudad Blanca,” is Bolivia’s judicial capital, La Paz is its political capital and also its main tourist hub. On the Mirador at Laikacota, you get a feel for how incredibly high up in the Andes this city sits. Deep in the valley below lies the central Plaza Murillo, home to the most precious buildings: the Presidential Palace, National Congress and Metropolitan Cathedral. Most visitors stay near the Plaza San Francisco, because of its proximity to hidden gems, such as the curious Witches’ Market, the Musical Instrument Museum and the Coca Museum. Around La Paz, you can ride down “El Camino de la Muerte,"...

The state of Santa Cruz occupies almost the entire Eastern and Southeastern third of Bolivia and is the largest of the country's nine states. Its capital city, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, has grown from a tiny town to being the largest city in Bolivia, in under 40 years. Santa Cruz is Bolivia's economic engine, generating nearly 40% of Bolivia's gross national product, and produces nearly 70% of Bolivia's food. But it wasn't always this way. While in the 1700's Potosí, Bolivia was the most populous city in the Americas, one hundred years later, in 1810, Santa Cruz was still a tiny frontier town of just 3500 people. Until the 1940's, the only means of communication between La Paz and Santa Cruz was by telegraph and short wave radio. The first paved road to connect Santa Cruz with the rest of ...

A bloody Neymar was removed from Brazil's 5-0 defeat of Bolivia after receiving an elbow to the face on Thursday. The Barcelona star scored one goal and set up two more as Brazil outclassed the Bolivians in their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier in Natal, Brazil, but wasn't allowed to continue past the 69th minute. Neymar went to ground after being accidentally elbowed during a one-v-one situation with a Bolivian defender near the touchline. With the right side of his face streaming blood, the former Santos star received medical attention for the gash but was ultimately subbed off for Willian on 69 minutes. Neymar had already received a 36th-minute yellow card that will rule him out of Tuesday's final October qualifier against Venezuela.
