Good morning, I’m still reporting on Clinton Foundation Paid off Charity Navigator for Good Rating The Clinton Foundation, according to their 2014 IRS filings, spent more on travel than it did on charities. According to the Daily Caller: “The foundation spent $7.8 million on travel in 2014, while spending less that $5.7 million on charitable grants.” The foundation spent a total of over $91 million in 2014 – with $34.8 million going to salaries and $5 million going raises for their employees. In other words, the foundation spent almost as much on raises for their employees as they did totally for charitable grants! The lion’s share of the rest of Clinton Foundation spending – some $50.4 million – went into a sort of slush fund only categorized on their 2014 tax return as “other expenses.” As the evidence piled up, last July, 64 House Republicans sent a letter to the IRS, the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) calling the Clinton Foundation a: “… lawless pay-to-play enterprise that has been operating under a cloak of philanthropy for years and should be investigated.” How do they get away with this? Why doesn’t the major charity rating agency, Charity Navigator, blow the whistle on this scheme? Well, there is a very bad reason. Charity Navigator recently awarded the Clinton Foundation its four-star rating. Shortly thereafter, Associated Press exposed that Charity Navigator was in fact a member of the Clinton Global Initiative from 2012 to 2014. The Clinton Global Initiative is one of the Clinton Foundation’s programs – where celebrities, government officials and philanthropic heavy hitters gather at glittering gatherings. According to a Sept. 1 story in the Daily Caller: “The $20,000 CGI membership fee was waived for Charity Navigator, which reported it as an in-kind contribution, according to the AP.” Charity Navigator chairman Michael Thatcher claimed his group joined CGI: “… to mingle with world leaders and promote its ratings.” Charity Navigator is a non-profit with 15 full-time employees and one volunteer who rate 8,000 charities. But guess what? According to financial analyst, Charles Ortel, their 2014 return showed zero expenditures for information technology or legal expenses. Could it be that someone may be providing these services for free in exchange for a better rating for their charitable foundations? I’m still reporting from Washington. Good day.
