The city of Dahlonega is the county seat of Lumpkin County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 5,242.
Dahlonega is located at the north end of Georgia 400, which connects Atlanta to many suburbs to the north. It is consistently named as a best place to retire by many different publications due to its low cost of living, vibrant activities, continuing education for seniors, festivals, and beautiful setting.
In 1828 Dahlonega was the site of the first major gold rush in the United States. The Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site stands in the middle of the town square, housed in the old Lumpkin County Courthouse built in 1836. From its steps in 1849, Dahlonega Mint assayor Dr. M. F. Stephenson tried to persuade miners to stay in Dahlonega instead of joining the California Gold Rush, saying, "There's millions in it," famously misquoted as "There's gold in them thar hills."
Dahlonega is home to a campus of the University of North Georgia.

Tony Rice (born David Anthony Rice, June 8, 1951, Danville, Virginia, United States) is an American guitarist and bluegrass musician. He is considered one of the most influential acoustic guitar players in bluegrass, progressive bluegrass, newgrass and acoustic jazz. He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2013.
Rice's music spans the range of acoustic from traditional bluegrass to jazz-influenced New Acoustic music to songwriter-oriented folk. Over the course of his career, he has played alongside J. D. Crowe and the New South, David Grisman (during the formation of "Dawg Music") and Jerry Garcia, led his own Tony Rice Unit, collaborated with Norman Blake, recorded with his brothers Wyatt, Ron, and Larry, and co-founded the Bluegrass Album Band. He has recorded with drums, piano, soprano sax, as well as with traditional bluegrass instrumentation.
Rice was born in Danville, Virginia but grew up in Los Angeles, California, where his father, Herb Rice, introduced him to bluegrass. Tony and his brothers learned the fundamentals of bluegrass and country music from L.A. musicians like the Kentucky Colonels, led by Roland and Clarence White. Clarence White in particular became a huge influence on Rice. Crossing paths with fellow enthusiasts like Ry Cooder, Herb Pedersen and Chris Hillman reinforced the strength of the music he had learned from his father.

North Georgia is the hilly to mountainous northern region of the U.S. state of Georgia. At the time of the arrival of settlers from Europe, it was inhabited largely by the Cherokee. The counties of north Georgia were often scenes of important events in the history of Georgia. It was the site of many American Civil War battles, including the Battle of Lookout Mountain and the Battle of Chickamauga, leading up to the Atlanta Campaign. Today, particularly in the northeast portion of the region, tourism sustains the local economy.
North Georgia encompasses the north Georgia mountains (far northeast and northwest) region of the state and the Atlanta metropolitan area, although the term is often used to describe only the region north of the metro area, especially in newscasts from the Atlanta media market (which reach nearly all of the northern third of the state). To the south lies central Georgia, with upstate South Carolina to the east, western North Carolina to the northeast, east Tennessee to the north, and northeast Alabama to the west. Part of metropolitan Chattanooga extends into the far northwestern section of Georgia from Tennessee, while most of the rest of the region is tied to Atlanta-area mass media.

Earlier this year we took a road trip to Dahlonega, GA. Talked to some of the locals and they mentioned gold panning on the Chestatee River. Parked at a public access point and hiked down to the river. Found some color and had a nice time.
When The University of North Georgia contacted us to produce a 'campus tour' video we wanted to provide the viewer with a fresh perspective of this beautiful Dahlonega campus, so we contacted our friends at Yonder Blue Films to provide us with aerial footage. The results are stunning.

Kaya Vineyard and Winery is a rebirth of Blackstock Vineyards; located in Dahlonega, Georgia. Blackstock was one of the first and largest vineyards in the Dahlonega area. The unfortunate closing of Blackstock Vineyards in late 2012 paved the way for a complete renovation and re-vitalization of the property. Our future is exciting, with plans that include a twenty-two room hotel with restaurant, fifteen craftsman cottages, and an event facility that can seat up to three hundred. This will make Kaya the largest winery resort North of Atlanta.

Headin' into the hills again,
Thursday, North Georgia bound
‘Bout 43 miles to my destination,
Little gold rush college town
Blue Ridge Mountains on the horizon. Here I come
Smoke like a freight train, passin' time racin' the sun
When I cross that city limit sign, I'm feelin' fine
Oh Dahlonega
Seems everybody knows my name,
Man it really blows my mind
‘Cause I've never been one of those popular guys
Always the quiet kind
Never a local football star celebrity
None of the cool girls ever seemed to notice me
Oh but now I hear ‘em sing along and feel at home
In Dahlonega
Think I've struck gold
I've struck gold right here
Bury my heart and call it home
Midnight it's closin' time
Last call for alcohol
Watch everybody stumble away
Hear highway 60 call
It's back to the real world, 9 to 5 payin' the bills
Back to the routines, fillin' my flask and poppin' pills
When I cross that Lumpkin County line I'll be cryin'
I'll be cryin'
Dahlonega
