Cool runnings for Cockburn with near vertical waterslide for new water park

A new recreation centre under construction in Perth's south is installing some very tall, very fast and potentially very scary water slides - one starting with a near vertical drop through a trap door.

The City of Cockburn's Aquatic and Recreation Centre or "ARC" will be the new headquarters of the Fremantle Dockers when it's finished, with training grounds and facilities alongside public swimming pools, cafes and other attractions.

But in a plunge steeper than the Docker's 2016 season, the ARC will have three huge waterslides offering thrilling rides from top to bottom.

You can see a sneak peek of them on 7 News Perth on Wednesday night at 6pm.

Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett said the ARC was set to be "one of the best aquatic and recreation centres in the whole of Australia."

"There will be world class facilities. We're looking at over a million users to the centre itself," he said.

"There'll be the fifty metre outdoor pool, 25-metre indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, and of course a number of other pools there, water playgrounds, three major waterslides to accommodate the needs of the young and the young at heart."

Currently under construction, the ARC is due for completion in the middle of 2017.
