Advanced Materials is a weekly peer-reviewed scientific journal covering materials science. It includes Communications, Reviews, and Feature Articles on topics in chemistry, physics, nanotechnology, ceramics, metallurgy, and biomaterials.
The journal was founded in 1988 as a supplement in the general chemistry journal Angewandte Chemie and remained in that journal for the first 18 months of its existence. The Founding Editor was Peter Goelitz (the Editor of Angewandte Chemie). The current editor-in-chief is Peter Gregory. The editorial office is in Weinheim, Germany.
Originally published 12 issues per year (monthly), the journal switched to 15 issues in 1997, 18 issues in 1998, and 24 issues (biweekly) in 2000; in 2009, the journal saw further expansion and became to publish weekly, with 48 issues per year.
Frequent topics covered by the journal also include liquid crystals, semiconductors, superconductors, optics, lasers, sensors, mesoporous materials, shape memory alloys, light-emitting materials, magnetic materials, thin films, and colloids.
GE Aviation, a subsidiary of General Electric, is headquartered in Evendale, Ohio, outside Cincinnati. GE Aviation is among the top aircraft engine suppliers, and offers engines for the majority of commercial aircraft. GE Aviation is part of the General Electric conglomerate, which is one of the world's largest corporations. The division operated under the name of General Electric Aircraft Engines (GEAE) until September 2005.
GE Aviation's main competitors in the engine market are Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney. GE operates a joint venture with Snecma of France, CFM International.
General Electric had a long history in steam turbine work, dating back to the 1900s. In 1903 they hired Sanford Alexander Moss, who, in time, started the development of turbosuperchargers at GE. This led to a series of record-breaking flights over the next ten years. At first the role of high-altitude flight was limited, but in the years immediately prior to WWII they became standard equipment on practically all military aircraft. GE was a world leader in this technology; most other firms concentrated on the mechanically simpler supercharger driven by the engine itself, while GE had spent considerable effort developing the exhaust driven turbo system that offered higher performance.
A Risk Bites Extra! This week - the complete series of Advanced Materials videos posted earlier this year, in one 22 minute mega-bite! I needed to put these together for a graduate class on advanced materials, and so I thought why not post the whole thing on Risk Bites. What you get is the flip-video for an Environmental Health Sciences class on advanced materials and health risks Enjoy! Help us caption & translate this video! http://amara.org/v/FFGy/
Can a system achieve intelligence by combining the control of a flexible structure with the properties of an active material? The answer is Yes, and you will discover it at the “Smart Flexibility: Advanced Materials and Technologies” exhibition. Projects developed by universities and firms from 9 different countries (USA, Germany, Denmark, United Kingdom, Holland, Switzerland, Canada, China and Spain). Developed at Florida State University, buckypaper is composed of carbon nanotubes (CNT) and it could revolutionize the way everything from airplanes to TVs are made. CNTs have amazing mechanical, electrical, photonic and thermal properties. In buckypapers the nanotubes can either be randomly oriented or aligned in a high-magnetic field, based upon the specific properties desired in the composites. The High Performance Materials Institute (HPMI) and FSU has produced the world's largest magnetically aligned buckypaper. This was reported by the Associated Press on October 18th, 2008. Yet this lineup of advanced materials merely scratches the surface.than steel, ostensibly making vehicles both safer and more fuel efficient. The future of manufacturing depends on a number of technological breakthroughs in robotics, sensors and high-performance computing, to name a few. But nothing will impact how things are made, and what they are capable of, more than the materials manufacturers use to make those things. New materials change both the manufacturing process and the end result. advanced materials, advanced materials c4d, advanced material vray, advanced materials documentary, advanced materials and processes, advanced material technology, advanced materials & manufacturing, advanced materials in blender, advanced materials part 1, reynolds advanced materials, advanced mate...
