BANGKOK SKY TRAIN - Full Coverage of the Bangkok Mass Transit System!!!

Bangkok has various modes of public transport. It has an underground MRT line, it has the BTS lines, it has Bus services as well as Boat Services on the Chaophraya River that flows through the city. The BTS lines are part of the Bangkok Mass Transit System and is popularly called the 'Sky Train'. There are two lines - the Sukhumvit Line and the Silom Line, named after the areas through which they pass. Both the lines meet at a station called Siam, near the center of the city. The end stations of the Sukhumvit Line are Mo Chit and Bearing. The end stations of the Silom Line are National Stadium and Bang Wa. It is very important to know the destination of the train that you want to catch, in order to board the correct train. The trains themselves are driver operated, short 4 coach trains connected throughout by a vestibule. There are older models as well as newer models of trains which differ in certain characteristics like the headlights and interiors. Inside each train there is a map of the network. However the new trains have a live display of where the train is on the map. Also, announcements are made twice for every station. Whether old or new, the acceleration and pick up of the trains is superb, and so is the braking. The trains (like many metro trains around the world) get their electricity from the 3rd rail system, a highly charged rail that runs next to the track few inches above the ground making contact with the train. Most of the trains have advertisements on them (barring the driving cabins), for extra revenue. And around two or three trains do not have ads. I was lucky enough to capture trains without ads as well. They are painted this swanky blue and white with a bright red stripe and look really catchy. It is a lovely colour scheme. The stations are nice and clean, with many having escalators to go up. There are automatic ticket machines at every station. The stations which are likely to see more people during rush hours have an extra set of automatic glass doors on the platform to avoid accidents of people falling on the tracks. In addition, every platform of every station has a security guard with a whistle to warn commuters when the train is approaching, as well as to signal to the driver when to close the doors of the train. The central station Siam, where the two lines meet, has a double layer of tracks, which shows great infrastructure. I was again lucky to capture two trains one above the other at such a location. Another station called Saphan Taksin near the river, has only one platform and a single track for both directions. So the train departs, the points change, and a train in the other direction arrives. It is all worked out to perfection. The BTS System is a really nice way to get around Bangkok. It is fast and convenient to go from one point to another. While cars are stuck in the traffic below, the trains zoom past over them. So no trip to Bangkok is complete without a ride in the Sky Train. Thank you for watching.
