Tashiding is a small village on a hilltop at West District of Sikkim in the Eastern Himalaya of India. Tashiding means “The Devoted Central Glory”. This village is about 250 m above sea level with a sub-tropical climate. It is around 40 kilometer far away from district headquarter of Gyalshing. In electoral roll of 2011, Tashiding comes under the Assembly Constituency of Yuksom-Tashiding.
The legends of the village says that the name Tashiding means “The Devoted Central Glory”. It represents the Nyingmapa order of Tibetan Buddhism and has been a center of worship in the Kingdom of Sikkim since the 1700s.
In Tashiding village, most of the village population is from Schedule Tribe (ST). Schedule Tribe (ST) constitutes 51.76 % while Schedule Caste (SC) were 13.67 % of total population in Tashiding village.
Situated in the state of Sikkim, Tashiding Monastery is located approximately 40 km from Gyalshing and 19 km to the south east of Yoksum. Founded in 1717 by Ngadak Sempa Chembo (one of the three wise men who consecrated ceremony of the first lama), the monastery belongs to the Nyingmapa order.
Tashiding Monastery is situated in the state of Sikkim. It lies at a distance of approximately 40 km from Gyalshing and 19 km to the south east of Yoksum. Perched on top of the hill rising between the Rathong River and the Rangit River, it provides breathtaking views of the scenery below. Tashiding Gompa of India dates back to the year 1717, which coincided with reign of the third Chogyal Chakdor Namgyal. It is located on the site blessed by the great Guru Padmasambhava.
We started from Chalamthang at 10 am. It was a clear day (not much clear to view Kanchenjungha from Chalamthang). We expected some waterfalls on the way. But the route to reach Yuksom via Tashiding does not provide so. Tashiding Monastery is a Buddhist monastery of the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Western Sikkim, northeastern India. It is located on top of the hill rising between the Rathong chu and the Rangeet River, 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Gyalshing and 19 kilometres (12 mi) to the south east of Yuksam.
